The 14th annual Future Games took place on July 22-27 at LakePoint in Emerson, Georgia. Top uncommitted prospects in the classes of 2026 and 2027 participated in one of the most popular events each year.

For the first time ever, the state of California brought two teams: Team NorCal and Team SoCal.

We caught up with some of the state's standout performers to hear about their highlights on the weekend, overall experience at LakePoint, and what their recruitment process has looked like since the August 1st deadline has been reached.

AJ LaSota, 2027, OF, Notre Dame

In his sophomore season for Notre Dame, LaSota fanned 36 batters across 28.2 innings, while only allowing 9 earned runs. LaSota was able to shut down opposing batters in critical moments, notching two saves during the season.

Prep Baseball CA: What were some of your highlights from this year's Future Games?
LaSota: When I'm on the mound during the regular season and look out into the stands, it's always really special to see my parents as well as my friends' parents watching. At Future Games, in addition to the regular crowd,  I saw staff from almost every Power 4 and Power 5 program when I was on the mound. It was insane. Another highlight for me was just seeing the best players from all over the nation come together. The competition was the best of the best, and it was just an overall great experience.

Prep Baseball CA: What advice would you give to a player who will be at Future Games next summer?
LaSota:  I would say it’s something you absolutely should do—100%. My advice would be not to get too far ahead of yourself. Don’t overthink. Take deep breaths, slow your heart rate. If you overthink, you won’t perform your best. Really focus on slowing the game down, stay out of your head, and just do what you know you can do. Every kid there has the talent to perform well, so the mental aspect is key.

Prep Baseball CA:  Can you elaborate on the competition?  What was it like playing Texas, and how did it compare to a typical SoCal regular season?

LaSota:  Playing the best kids with the best kids from other states was eye-opening. In a regular SoCal tournament, if you throw a 91-mph fastball over the plate, you might get by. At Future Games, even if it’s fast, these kids can hit it. It was a reality check, and it showed me how competitive the next level really is and how much talent exists beyond California.

Prep Baseball CA: Since the August 1st deadline, have college coaches reached out? How’s the recruitment process been for you, and what advice would you give to someone going through a similar process?

LaSota: Future Games gave me exposure to 30–40 schools. A lot of schools said, “We saw you at Future Games,” and they’re from all over the country. Advice for anyone going in next August: don’t overthink it. Coaches are baseball guys, too. Be polite, be grateful. If you’re not interested in a school, be straightforward. If you are interested, express that clearly.

On October 7th, LaSota took to social media to announce his commitment to the University of Virginia.

LaSota, the No. 6 ranked player in the state in the Class of 2027, hopes to continue his success on the mound from a strong weekend at LakePoint into a strong junior season for Notre Dame and beyond at the University of Virginia.
