UT Class of 2029: Rankings Release

Taylor Berg
Utah Scouting Director

The time has come for the Utah players in the 2029 Class to step onto a high school baseball field in 2026. It is every young prospects goal to play varsity baseball for their school! The evaluation process is always fluid and on going and we know that development comes at different stages of every young players career.

This initial release will feature 10 players that we have gotten to see at our Rising Stars events over the last year, as well as the Open IDs, and the tournament circuit around the country this Fall and Summer. This list will expand and develop as the prospects in the 2029 Class begin to emerge.

Today, we will give a breakdown of the top 10, and be sure to check back tomorrow and Wednesday for new articles breaking down an extended look at the 2029 Class!

⭐ Class of 2029: Top 10 ⭐

Asher Williams 3B / C / Desert Hills, UT / 2029

Asher takes the #1 spot as we roll out our first set of rankings for the 2029 Class. He burst onto the scene back in April at our Rising Stars ID, held at the Hive in Nephi, UT. Since that moment, the explosion onto the National spotlight began and has continued up through today. Present physicality and strength are the clear separators right now, showcasing raw HR power from the right side with an added ability to drive both gaps. Mature for his age and displaying that he can move, and stay light on his feet despite his large frame, the future is bright for the Thunder Freshman! I expect heavy Varsity contribution right out the gate this Spring for a loaded Desert Hills team, for new Head Coach, Jagun Leavitt.

Kye Ward SS / RHP / Maple Mountain, UT / 2029

Kye displayed high level skills all Summer long for the Canes, making real noise on the National level for his Class. We got the chance to see him this Fall at our Maple Mountain HS Scout Day, he lived up to the hype and some. The arm talent and mature movements all over the field really stand out, and show legitimate potential down the road to be elite. Up to 87 across the infield and a 6.8 runner, the athletic tools provide a high ceiling and don’t be shocked if he gets opportunities this Spring at the Varsity level.

Kingston Stroshine OF / RHP / Lone Peak, UT / 2029

The two sport athlete had one of the best workouts we saw all year at our UT events, regardless of age. His physicality and athleticism are off the charts and stack up against some of the best in the country for the 2029 Class. At 5’11 187 lbs back in July, he posted the top metrics in multiple categories, including a 6.8 in the 60 and one of the loudest rounds of BP, sending a few balls out of the park with relative ease. A relentless worker and elite athlete, Kingston stands to continue to improve year after year. The sky really seems to be the limit for the Lone Peak Freshman.

Preston Higgins 3B / RHP / Canyon View, UT / 2029

Preston fits the profile of a future high level prospect, and has the skills right now to give you reason to believe he will realize that potential. Tall, broad shoulders that sit on an athletic, 6’4 frame that moves well and shows signs of legitimate strength in the years to come. Up to 80 on the mound and across the diamond this past Summer and Fall, with a mature hit tool for the Class. I anticipate Preston to play a crucial Varsity role for the reigning 3A State Champions and their attempt to go back to back.

Cody Ruffell C / 2B / Snow Canyon, UT / 2029

The Warrior Freshman possesses a versatile set of skills and tools that place him squarely in the conversation for one of the top players in the Class at this point. Whether he is behind the plate, on the mound, or turning double plays up the middle, he seems to play comfortably anywhere you put him. The left-handed swing plays to all fields and shows signs of hitting velocity now, with real power potential to come as he grows and matures physically. Snow Canyon brings back another loaded, veteran group and Varsity opportunities may be hard to come by in 2026, but absolutely keep Cody on your list to follow.

Cohen Fuller SS / RHP / Desert Hills, UT / 2029

Cohen and his family have made a move from Las Vegas to Saint George, UT, and will be attending Desert Hills HS. He was a Junior Futures Games participant for Team Nevada, and ranked in their Top 10. After getting a chance to see him in person this Fall, I can see why he earned those acknowledgements. His 6’0 frame displays real athleticism and features legit arm talent. Notable offensive and defensive improvements have been made since July, and the opportunity to earn Varsity time could be there often for the Thunder Freshman.

Jaxon Rich OF / LHP / Riverton, UT / 2029

The lefty/lefty out of Riverton HS shows real signs of a big time player in the near future. The arm talent is apparent, and will compete for Varsity innings this Spring due to his ability to compete with 3 pitches. The FB sits in the mid 70s with heavy ASR, and he goes right at hitters attacking the strike zone. Present strength and athleticism on a big 6’1 frame that is well filled out already at 175 lbs, but has potential for more room to grow. The mound presence and confidence stand out, displaying signs of a potential Ace of a staff down the road for a top 6A program.

Cole Allred SS / OF / Maple Mountain, UT / 2029

Cole appears to be one of the better athletes in the Class already, backing that by earning the starting QB role for Maple Mtn this Fall. After not playing baseball since last Summer, he got the chance to attend our Maple Mtn HS Scout Day after football and showcased very well. You can see the strength from the left side offensively and he doesn’t get cheated in the box, looking to do damage and having the ability to do so often. The athleticism is intriguing and should allow for rapid growth and improvement within one of the top programs in the state.

Peyton Wayment SS / OF / Corner Canyon, UT / 2029

Although Peyton has not had the opportunity to attend a PBR event yet to this point, through multiple avenues and outlets he earned the spot inside the Top 10. Huge thanks to Twitter and trusted word of mouth sources, Peyton really impressed and shows real signs of elite tools and skills down the road. The right-handed versatile defender gets after it in the box, and has a knack for barrel and driving the ball with consistent backspin. The frame and game have real intrigue, and will be a top name to follow for the Class this Spring.

Ethan Pepper C / SS / Spanish Fork, UT / 2029

Consistent, mature performance is what Ethan brings to the table in addition to his skills and game. Behind the plate the defense is sound, featuring throws regularly around 2.0 to second base with his best already at a 1.95. Quick exchanges and a strong arm provide an above average catch and throw tool. At 5’11 180 lbs, the strength is present and shows signs of real power down the road. With his repeatable swing and projectable frame, combined by playing in a top program in UT at Spanish Fork, I expect a bright future for the Don Freshman.
