VENTURA, CALIF. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series continues as we wind down from a packed fall of Prep Baseball California events, scout baseball, and other opportunities to evaluate players we will be recognizing some of the top remaining uncommitted players around the state. We will be looking at players from the 2026 class and 2027 classes across the upcoming weeks/months.

We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.

Today, we put the spotlight on a talented 2026 player who is featured inside the Top 325 of our 2026 California rankings. We are looking at the SoCal based '26 C Caydin Wilson from West Ranch High School in Valencia, Calif.. Wilson first debuted on the Prep Baseball California event platform at the Orange County Preseason ID in January of 2024 before a solid Soph. season at Chaminade College Prep. Then he returned for a stellar showing at the San Diego Preseason All State event in January of 2025 which carried into a strong showing for the CIF-Southern Section D2 champion West Ranch Wildcats program.

During that JR. season Wilson acclimated himself to the Wildcats program taking over a prominent spot in their lineup as the designated hitter while getting repetitions behind the plate behind their SR. Stanford commit. Wilson played in 75% of the Wildcats games with 24 games played taking 88 plate appearances with 63 official at bats. Caydin posted a strong slash line of .349/.494/.381 on the year. He collected 22 hits on the spring with two of them going for doubles while driving in 15 runs and scoring another 17 runs on the year. Showing a solid approach with a walk to strikeout ratio of 13 to 16 for the year. His three stolen bases was good for third on the squad. During his time behind the plate he posted a 1.000 fielding percentage with 30 putouts and one assist for the year.

The RH hittting Wilson starts from a slightly wider base with balance in his body while setting the barrel of his bat just above his shoulder height slightly tipped towards the ground. He starts by shifting his weight onto his back side while tipping his barrel up into the launch position to load his hands while using a leg kick on the front side to control his forward move. Wilson shows present quickness in his turn with effective use of his lower 1/2 while generating strong present torque posting 18.8 Gs of rotational acceleration. His path is compact and geared for high contact with bat speed reaching 66.7 MPH while showing off quickness in his hand speeds at 21.3 MPH. The batted ball data for Wilson backs up the line drive based line to line approach he employs with high contact in his offensive profile. Posting a max exit velocity at 91.2 MPH while averaging 86.4 MPH throughout his batting practice at the San Diego Preseason All State event. Even more impressive is the angles at which he hits the ball with a 100% sweet spot rate during his batting practice.

With a solid to strong offensive profile for Wilson combining with a solid defensive profile at a premium spot there is plenty to like about the all around game for him. His transfer is quick to get the ball out of his hand and online to 2B with efficiency to register low 2.0 pop times behind the plate. He was a strong defender during his time with Chaminade in 2024 (where the Eagles made a run at the Mission League title) and one can expect him to be a strong defender again as a SR. for the West Ranch program. Wilson has been a prominent piece of a pair of winning programs with Chaminade posting an impressive year in 2024 with him behind the dish and then again in 2025 with the Wildcats winning a title so Wilson knows how to be a part of a winning program.

The overall profile for Wilson is strong at present and there is still room for him to continue developing as he matures across the board. For college programs still on the hunt for solid defensive catchers who have the offensive ability to add to their lineups in the 2026 class Wilson is a high quality name to dive in on.

Scouting Report

3/28/25

Wilson showed a solid strong defensive profile while starting full-time on the varsity level in 2024 at a different high school. Transferring over to West Ranch, he has taken a consistent spot in the lineup as the DH (starting catcher is a Stanford commit) and those additional at bats have helped his offensive profile take a step forward. I’ve been convinced to have his long-term potential behind the plate for quite a while, but seeing the growth in his offensive profile, this spring is ticking him up as a long-term college prospect. Wilson is showing more control of his operation in the box with improved bat speed and a better turn with his lower half allowing him to create more solid impact and LVG to the pull side of the field in game. If he continues trending in the direction, he is offensively. He goes from solid defensive profile at a premium spot to a more well-rounded prospect with a premium, defensive home.
