DFW Freshman Free Showcase: Player Analysis

On Saturday, October 11th, the PB Texas staff traveled to Denton Ryan High School in Denton, TX, to host the DFW Freshman Free Showcase, an open event for the class of 2029.

More than 30 players made their way to Denton Ryan HS this past weekend and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Texas staff.

We've already posted a Statistical Analysis from the event, highlighting more of the traditional statistical categories, as well as a Takeaways, highlighting some of the events top performers, while also posting Data Dives for both Pitchers and Position Players.

Today, we take a look at the scouting reports on every player in attendance from the event.

Bain Barton, Comanche (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: SS/RHP RHH/INF solid build/frame to add needed strength. Look for run speed to increase in future. Chance to develop into fringe avg runner. Developing actions on the infield, will firm quickly with adjustments. Project solid/bat power combo in future with adjustments to hit approach and swing. Flashes hard contact at times now. Developing player. RHP… delivery works, can firm finish and extension. Looking for arm speed to develop in future. FB shows some carry up, firming delivery will increase ability to work FB down in zone. Shows feel to spin baseball with both CB and Slider. Depth to finish with CB when landed, chance to develop into swing and miss pitch. Slider has blended action, solid pitch when landed. With ability to spin baseball, presently more of reliever. FB command must be firmed to start.
Body: 5-8, 165 pounds. Solid build/frame to add strength in future. Projects well physically.
Hit: RHH. Back foot gets stuck in rotation hindering ability to consistently engage lower 1/2 in swing. Work to get back foot turned and driving forward. Hits into firm front leg. Stride foot rolls onto side of foot, occasionally works back into heel. Work to keep foot into ground, hit from ground up. Body lays back at contact, work to get more upright with body at contact, getting foot fully turned will help some with this as well. Barrel/hands start in good position, barrel works out, down and up thru zone creating uphill path. Work to take hands/barrel on direct path to baseball, developing shorter path and getting on plane with swing.
Power: 87 mph max exit velocity (71.6 avg.); 316-foot max batted distance. Projection bat/power combo in future with adjustments to hit approach and swing. Contact consistency and impact will firm with changes. Bat/hand speed will increase with added strength and physical maturity.
Arm: RH. INF - 79 mph. Arm works. Stands to throw, work to stay low after fielding baseball when making throw. Follow throw with feet after release. Develop ability to throw from all angles when moving to left. Recommend long toss program to increase arm speed and raw arm strength.
Defense: Moves fine to baseball with feet. Dead stop fielder, fields baseball deep. Work to keep feet moving thru baseball when fielding. Gets hands on front when fielding baseball.
Athletic Testing: 7.55 runner in the 60-yard dash; Solid start, got upright. Work to develop slight lean forward with head and shoulders. Look for speed to increase with added strength and physical maturity.

Delivery: Side step rocker. High knee lift with inward turn. Stride leg works down the slope, lands in solid position. Upright finish, spins off, never gets over front side.
Arm Action: RH. H3/4 slot. Cutoff circle, lacks extension to finish. Fair arm speed.
FB: T80, 79-80 mph. Fair plane to FB, struggles to work ball down in zone. Some carry to FB up in zone. T1997, 1847 average rpm.
CB: 65-67 mph. Can spin baseball, depth to finish when landed. Gets on side at times. Developing feel for pitch. T2394, 2356 average rpm.
SL: 67-68 mph. Ability to spin slider present. Must firm release point for slider action, at times resembles blended breaking ball…still a solid pitch, but not a true slider. T2397, 2387 average rpm.
CH: 65-65 mph. T2323, 2323 average rpm.

Ryder Boyd, Wylie (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: RHP/OF RHH/INF/OF good build/frame to add needed strength. Moves well on baseball field, will be plus runner in future. Versatility defensively, shows developing actions on the infield, will have ability to play both SS/2nd. Adjustment opportunities present with hit approach and swing to firm consistency and impact. Shows nice line drive contact at times now, will firm. Solid player developing. RHP Delivery can be improved, increasing use of lower 1/2. Compact/cutoff circle…with stiff wrist. Throws from slightly lower slot on defense…arm works as position player. Stuff will develop with increased arm speed, firming of arm action to backside. Try lowering slot slightly to mimic arm action playing position.
Body: 5-10, 145 pounds. Good build/frame to add strength in future. Sloping shoulders with nice width to back. Projects well physically.
Hit: RHH. Rotational back foot, gets turned. Drive back foot forward with linear movement towards pitchers mound. Presently, slides to 3rd base hindering lower 1/2 use. Hits into firm front leg. Stays into ground with stride foot, hitting from ground up. Solid posture at contact. Barrel/hands in good launch position, takes nice path to hit zone with both. Cuts swing off, lacking extension thru baseball. Increasing extension will increase ability to impact baseball.
Power: 84 mph max exit velocity (79.4 avg.); 282-foot max batted distance. Projection bat/power combo in future with adjustments to hit approach and swing. Contact consistency and impact will firm with adjustments. Look for bat/hand speed to increase with added strength and physical maturity.
Arm: RH. INF - 78 mph. OF - 74 mph. Arm works, compact circle, throws from 3/4 slot. Shows developing carry to throws. Throws from angles when on the move in the infield. Recommend long toss program to increase arm speed and raw arm strength.
Defense: OF…moves well to baseball, breaks down well to field, set feet to throw. Steady defender in OF. INF…Feet work getting to baseball, nice job of playing thru baseball when fielding. Get left foot out front more when fielding, directionally going to RF when fielding, want to moving towards 1st, feet positioning will firm this. Work to get palm facing baseball when fielding…fingers down. Fields baseball little deep, get out front with hands. Will develop in the infield.
Athletic Testing: 7.16 runner in the 60-yard dash; Solid start. Nice lean forward with body. Shows some foot speed with short stride length. Look for speed to increase with added strength and physical maturity.

Delivery: Side step rocker, knee lift to just above waist, limited inward turn, floats thru balance point. Works down the slope, solid direction with upright finish.
Arm Action: RH. 3/4 to H 3/4 slot. Compact, cutoff circle with fair layback to arm at top. Stiff wrist, pushes hand forward, pie thrower. Fair extension to release.
FB: T77, 75-77 mph. Nice down plane. Shows some ability to create spin to baseball with some carry up. Looking for arm speed to increase. T2099, 2029 average rpm.
SL: 67-69 mph. Down action. Depth present, early breaker. T2147, 1832 average rpm.

Daiden Burris, Rockwall-Heath (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: RHH/OF solid build/frame to add needed strength. Plus runner in future with added strength and maturity. Moves well in OF, will be solid OF'r with ability to play all 3 spots. Solid bat/power combo in future, flashes impact at times now. Adjustment opportunities present for both hit approach and swing. Solid player developing, interesting raw tools present. RHP solid delivery, arm works, looking for arm speed to develop in future. FB has action, looking for velo to increase for future success. Slider release point must firmed for success, gets on side presently hindering spin and action. Shows feel for change, will develop as arm speed increases.
Body: 5-11, 170 pounds. Solid build/frame to add strength in future. Width to shoulders and back present. Projects well physically.
Hit: . Rotational back foot, works fine, occasionally gets stuck. Shows linear movement to back foot at times, firm linear movement to consistently engage lower 1/2. Hits into firm stride leg, rolls onto side of foot. Work to stay into ground with stride foot, hit from ground up. Solid posture to swing. Hands start away from body, with stride, hands push back, elbow goes up causing barrel tip over top of head. Like the idea of hands starting closer to body, work to start barrel in area behind head allowing for direct path to hit zone with barrel. Length to swing, barrel works back and around presently.
Power: 92 mph max exit velocity (84.1 avg.); 312-foot max batted distance. Project solid bat/power combo in future with adjustments to hit approach and swing. Contact consistency and impact will firm with changes.
Arm: RH. OF - 76 mph. Arm works. Tail action to throws, work to stay behind baseball with hand for backspin carry.
Defense: Moves well to baseball, nice job of breaking down to field. Work to firm fielding baseball off to side and out front, looking to maintain momentum throwing. Solid defender.
Athletic Testing: 7.07 runner in the 60-yard dash; Solid start and run form with good stride length. Plus runner in future. Speed will increase with added strength and physical maturity.

Delivery: Side step rocker, high knee lift with inward turn, floats thru balance point. 1st base side start, cross step delivery. Gets over front side, spinoff finish.
Arm Action: RH. Full circle, works well. 3/4 slot, solid finish out front. Arm speed will develop.
FB: T76, 75-76 mph. Tail to arm side up, tail/sink down. Solid FB when down in zone when combined with life. Looking to see velo increase. T1862, 1815 average rpm.
SL: 67-70 mph. Inconsistent release, gets on side. Must firm release point for success, spin must develop. T1810, 1584 average rpm.
CH: 71-71 mph. Fade with some sink, nice job of keeping arm speed up. T1405, 1405 average rpm.

Jayden Cuba, Ryan (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: OF/2B RHH/OF great build to add strength in future. Projects to WAA runner in time. Glides to baseball in OF, CF with range. Arm strength will improve, needs throwing program for arm development. Adjustments opportunities present with both hit approach and swing. Athletic player with raw tools, must add strength and develop tools for success. Interesting player to watch in future, will take time and dedication to reach potential.
Body: 5-10, 130 pounds. Lean, width to shoulders and back. Will add strength in future. Projects well physically.
Hit: RHH. Rotational back foot, late at times getting turned. Work to get foot turned on time. Drive foot forward towards pitcher, slides towards 3rd hindering use of lower 1/2 in swing. Hits into firm front leg. Firm keeping stride foot into ground thru swing. Hit from ground up. Body lays back at contact, driving back forward will help with getting posture more upright. With stride, back elbow raises causing barrel tip over head creating length to swing. Would like to see barrel launched from area behind head allowing for more direct path to zone. Length to swing, works down, around and up. Working to get on plane will create increased line drive contact.
Power: 78 mph max exit velocity (71.7 avg.); 284-foot max batted distance. Projection bat/power combo in future. Adjustments to hit approach and swing will firm contact consistency and impact. Look for bat/hand speed to increase with added physical strength.
Arm: RH. OF - 62 mph. Low slot, body falls to left when throwing. Throw with firm stride leg, maintaining direction towards target. Work to get arm slot up, stay behind baseball with hand for backspin carry. Needs long toss program to firm arm speed and raw arm strength along with firming of stride leg.
Defense: Glides to baseball, will play CF. Breaks down well to field, nice job of setting feet to throw.
Athletic Testing: 6.87 runner in the 60-yard dash; Solid run form, good stride length. Will continue to add speed in future with added strength and physical maturity. Chance to develop into well abv avg runner on pro scale.

Aiden Debord, Decatur (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: RHP/1B RHP repeats delivery, can firm stride leg landing. Opportunity to firm arm action to backside. Arm speed will increase with firming of arm action. FB shows solid down plane, developing carry up. Can spin baseball, firming of release point will firm command of pitch. CB has chance to develop into solid pitch. Change shows action to arm side, maintains arm speed for deception. Upside present with firming of arm action.
Body: 5-10, 150 pounds. Good build/frame to add strength. Avg width to shoulders and back. Well proportioned. Moves well on the mound.
Delivery: Side step rocker. High knee lift, slight inward turn. Nice use of lower 1/2 in delivery. Heel lander with toe landing very slightly open. Solid direction to finish. Work to land with flat foot. Recommend firming toe landing online or even slightly closed.
Arm Action: RH. Cutoff circle, stiff wrist to back. Good lay back to arm at top, nice extension to finish. Shows some arm quickness, will develop. Work to lengthen arm to backside some, free wrist, hand.
FB: T76, 74-76 mph. Solid down plane. Carry will develop with increased speed. Occasional arm side tail/sink. T1898, 1814 average rpm.
CB: 62-64 mph. Can spin baseball, lacks consistent release point. Gets on side, with development of ability to consistently get on top of pitch will show solid action. T2376, 2291 average rpm.
CH: 67-72 mph. Tail/sink action to arm side. Solid job of maintaining arm speed for deception. Pitch will continue to develop. T2343, 1553 average rpm.

Tate French, Lovejoy (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: SS/2B LHH/INF great build/frame to add strength. Projects to be plus runner in future. Moves well on the baseball field. Actions developing on the infield, feet work. Will have versatility on the dirt. See as above avg HS SS . Solid bat/power combo in future, hit over power. Bullish on hit ability. Adjustment opportunities present, has a good base to work from. Player who will continue to develop, will be fun to watch over next few years.
Body: 5-7, 145 pounds. Great build/frame to add strength in future. Avg width to back and shoulders. Solid lower.
Hit: LHH. Lands in solid position to hit, rotational back foot, works well, fully turned on time. Recommend working to develop small linear movement forward with back foot to increase the use of lower 1/2 in swing. Recommend this due length of stride…if not comfortable with linear movement, try shortening stride slightly. Nice job of rotation with core, develop core with rotational exercises continuing to develop rotation acceleration. Hits into firm front leg. With swing stride foot rolls onto side of foot causing hips to slide towards 1st base dugout, work to keep foot into ground to keep posture upright allowing for energy going forward. Barrel/hands in good launch position, takes good path with both to hit zone. Little pull conscious, work to develop all field approach. Bat/hand speed will firm with added strength and continued development of core and rotational acceleration.
Power: 89 mph max exit velocity (82.6 avg.); 276-foot max batted distance. Project solid bat/power combo in future. Opportunities for adjustments present to firm contact consistency and impact. Great base to both to develop from.
Arm: RH. INF - 75 mph. Arm works, arm speed will improve. Work to develop ability to throw from angles when on the move. Recommend long toss program to increase raw arm speed and arm strength.
Defense: Feet work well getting to baseball, solid job of breaking down to field. Hands work with solid presentation of glove, palm facing baseball. Fields baseball middle of body, occasionally off right foot, work to field baseball off inside of left foot out front. Actions present and developing.
Athletic Testing: 7.22 runner in the 60-yard dash; Solid runner with good stride length. Projects to be plus runner in future.

Jacob Hekele, Aledo (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: LHP/OF LHH/OF/1B build/frame to add needed strength in future. Look for run speed to increase with added strength and maturity. Defensively will have versatility as corner OF and 1B. Can firm footwork and hands at both with adjustments. Project solid bat/power combo with changes to hit approach. Swing works. Player with upside, will develop. Strength will be key factor in future. LHP with solid delivery and arm action. Look for arm speed to develop, arm works. FB quality when down in zone. Feel for CB present with solid finish to pitch. Slider release point must be firmed, gets on side. Change with action, deception will develop with firming of arm speed in future. Around zone with stuff. Nice upside on the mound.

Delivery: 3rd side start. Stretch only, high knee lift with inward turn. Stride foot lands with slight cross step. Nice job of getting over stride leg. Solid direction
Arm Action: LH. Full circle, works well. Nice extension and finish. Look for arm speed to increase. H3/4 slot.
FB: T78, 77-77 mph. Fair carry to FB, must work down in zone for success. Tailing action to FB. Arm works, will see velocity increase. T2002, 1944 average rpm.
CB: mph. Showed CB, solid feel for release point, quality action, developing depth. Similar velocity to slider. CB ahead of slider. T, average rpm.
SL: 68-69 mph. Loose, gets on side. Must firm release point for success with slider. Spin developing. T1817, 1790 average rpm.
CH: 69-72 mph. Change with developing deception. Sink, sink/tail action. Will be solid pitch in future. T1935, 1619 average rpm.

Garrett Jones, Rockwall-Heath (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: C/3B RHH/C solid build/frame to add needed strength. Will develop increased foot speed in future. Developing behind plate, shows solid hands receiving pens. Can firm movements behind plate. Adjustment opportunities present for hit approach and swing to increase contact consistency. Shows ability to impact baseball now.
Body: 5-8, 170 pounds. Solid build, thickness present. Sloping shoulders, width to back. Will add strength in future.
Hit: RHH. Rotational back foot, works fine. Work to drive back foot forward fully engage lower 1/2 in swing. Hits into firm front leg. Stride foot works onto heel in swing hindering balance and ability maximize lower 1/2 use, keep foot into ground thru swing. Body lays back at contact contributing to uphill swing path, driving back foot forward along with staying stride foot will allow posture to be more upright. With stride, back elbow raises causing barrel tip over top of head, creating length to swing and scoop path. Work to start barrel in area in back of head allowing for direct path to hit zone. Hands cast out and around causing increased length. Take hands down the inside line of batters box to create direct path to hit zone.
Power: 91 mph max exit velocity (81.9 avg.); 353-foot max batted distance. Project solid bat/power combo in future with adjustments to hit approach and swing. Contact consistency and impact will firm with changes.
Arm: RH. C - 68 mph. Arm works. Recommend long toss program to increase arm speed and raw arm strength. Footwork throwing improving will help with throwing.
Defense: 2.19-2.23 pop time range; Catcher…received well in game play. Nice glove to hand exchange to throw. Work to stay low/athletic when throwing, direction to target, follow throw with feet.
Athletic Testing: 8.16 runner in the 60-yard dash; Solid start, nice run form. Speed will increase some with added strength and physical maturity.

Ryker Kahooilihala, Prosper Daep (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: C/OF RHH/C/OF good build/frame to add needed strength. Look for run speed to increase with added strength and physical maturity. Chance to develop into fringe avg runner in time. Defensively has versatility as corner OF and C. OF will be steady corner guy. Will learn to aggressively get to baseball playing OF, nice job of setting to throw. Hands work receiving, raw arm strength will develop. Solid hit approach with swing adjustment opportunities present. Will develop into solid player in future.
Body: 5-8, 152 pounds. Good build/frame to add strength in future. Width to shoulders and back. Projects well physically.
Hit: RHH. Lands in good position after stride, solid use of lower 1/2 in swing. Hits into firm front leg, stride foot stays into ground. Solid, upright posture at point of contact. Barrel lifts off shoulder to get into decent launch position. Hands push out slightly with swing creating length with uphill path. Lead shoulder pulls off early causing cut off swing. Take hands on direct path to baseball, work hands down the inside line of batters box. Get on plane with baseball looking for line drive contact. Shortening hand path will help keep lead shoulder closed some. Divide body into 1/2, front 1/2 of body in hitting is for stability, less is more with front 1/2 of body. Concentrate on using back 1/2 of body to create rotation acceleration. More is better for back 1/2 of body use.

Arm: RH. C - 70 mph. OF - 74 mph. Arm works well for throwing from both OF and catcher. Raw arm strength will develop with long toss program increasing arm strength and raw arm speed.
Defense: 2.06-2.28 pop time range; OF…solid actions fielding baseball, can be more aggressive coming to get baseball. Breaks down well to field and setting to throw. Catcher…Nice hands receiving in pens. Footwork fine setting to throw, closes lead shoulder throwing, causing arm to drag, work to keep shoulders square when throwing.
Athletic Testing: 7.65 runner in the 60-yard dash; Nice start, solid run form with good stride length. Look for run time to increase with added strength and physical maturity.

Max Martinez, Midland Christian (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: SS/RHP RHH/INF will add strength in future, projects well physically. Body control and agility will firm with strength and maturity. Run speed will increase. Will develop into solid infielder, feet work getting to baseball. Adjustment opportunities present for both hit approach and swing. Adding strength is must, tools will develop. RHS great pitchers build/frame. Delivery works fine, will firm ability to use lower 1/2. Arm works, easy, will develop arm speed. FB has solid down plane, around zone. Feel for secondary present with both CB and Change. Both pitches project well, CB chance to develop into swing and miss pitch. Upside. Watch develop.
Body: 5-11, 125 pounds. Lean/lanky, square shoulders with width. Projects well physically in future for adding strength.
Hit: RHH. Rotational back foot, back foot spins, drive back forward to increase use of lower 1/2. Hits into firm front leg. Stride foot stays in ground, nice job of hitting from ground up. Solid posture to swing at contact. Barrel/hands in decent launch position. Drives hands down, creating length, take hands on direct path to hit zone. Barrel works down and around, taking hands on direct path will allow barrel to work on direct path.
Power: 79 mph max exit velocity (71.4 avg.); 247-foot max batted distance. Projection bat/power combo in future with adjustments to hit approach and swing. Contact consistency and impact will firm with adjustments. Bat/hand speed to increase with added strength and physical maturity along with swing adjustments.

FB: T78, 76-78 mph. Solid down plane with tail action to arm side. Look for velocity to increase in future. T2009, 1976 average rpm.
CB: 67-68 mph. Shows feel to spin baseball. Depth present. Look for this pitch to continue to develop with added arm speed. Chance to develop into swing and miss pitch. T2327, 2213 average rpm.

Reese Moss, Keller (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: C/3B RHH/INF/C build/frame to add needed strength. Look for run speed to increase with added strength and maturity. Defensively will have versatility. Developing behind plate, received well in pens. Arm strength/release will firm, look for avg pop times in future. INF will be steady player. Solid bat/power combo in future, shows developing ability to impact baseball now. Player to watch develop.
Body: 6-0, 184 pounds. Great build/frame to add strength in future. Width to shoulders and back. Projects well physically.
Hit: RHH. Solid hit approach. Nice job of using lower 1/2 in swing. Hits into firm front side, stride foot stays into ground. Nice job of hitting from ground up. Good posture at contact. Barrel/hands in good launch position. Hands take solid path to baseball. Barrel works out and down slightly creating uphill path, work to take more direct path with barrel working to get on plane creating increased line drive contact.
Power: 92 mph max exit velocity (85.4 avg.); 328-foot max batted distance. Project solid bat/power combo. Solid approach, swing works, can improve getting on plane creating increased line drive contact. Will develop.
Arm: RH. C - 72 mph. INF - 73 mph. Arm works both in OF and behind plate. Recommend long toss program to increase arm speed and raw arm strength.
Defense: 2.14-2.29 pop time range; INF…solid getting to baseball and breaking down. Develop ability to play thru baseball with feet, dead feet now. Fields baseball deep, work to field ball out front.
