Tools of the Trade: Nebraska's Class of 2027 Hit Tool

Pascal Paul
State Director, Prep Baseball Nebraska

Nebraska - Nebraska’s 2027 class features a strong group of hitters who have already shown advanced feel, consistency and production against quality competition. Several prospects stood out during the 2025 spring season and again on the national stage at the Futures Games, where their batted-ball data and in-game performance highlighted the top hit tools in the state. These players combine approach, swing efficiency and plate discipline to separate themselves as premier bats in the class.

Kalai Larsen RHP / SS / Lincoln East, NE / 2027

Larsen put together a huge spring for the state champion Spartans, hitting .404 with 10 doubles and three triples while showing advanced ability to use the entire field. In Atlanta for Team Midwest at the Futures Games, he produced over 50 percent in both hard-hit and sweet-spot metrics. Striking out fewer than 10 times in the 2025 spring with a 1:1 K-to-BB ratio, Larsen shows a high-level understanding of the zone and the ability to square up the ball to all fields.
