ABA Scout Day: Quick Hits

Prep Baseball Kansas Staff

On Saturday, November 1st, the Prep Baseball Kansas staff traveled to ABA Indoor Facility in Stillwell, KS to host the annual ABA Scout Day. This event featured 15+ players from the ABA program in attendance.

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. To see what our events offer, click HERE.

Earlier, our staff rolled out the day’s statistical standouts in leaderboard format within our ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE. Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts within these ‘Quick Hits’. Read below to learn about 4 names that popped to our staff from Saturday's trip to Stillwell.

QUICK HITS

+ RHP/INF Blake Sarnecki (Heritage Christian, 2026) flashed a big arm all day whether at the hot corner or on the mound. Defensively, we saw him up to 89 mph across the infield. On the mound, the right-hander ran his high-spin (2,300+ RPM) fastball up to 87.7 mph. He worked off the heater with a trio of offpseed offerings, including a wipeout slider at 72-73 mph with a max of -20.7" of horizontal movement. He also turned over a changeup at 76-77 mph and curveball at 68-69 mph to round out his four-pitch mix.

+ INF Everett Finnell (Blue Valley Northwest, 2027) showed off some present strength across the board in this look, with impressive numbers both defensively and at the dish. In his round of BP, Finnell ran his exit velocity up into the mid 90s, topping out at 93.5 mph. On the infield, he showed off the arm strength, firing a 87 mph bullet across the diamond.

+ One of the stronger outfielder performances of the day came from sophomore OF Jason Locklear (Olathe Northwest, 2028). The tools give you a lot to like when watching Locklear, and as the young prospect continues to grow there is plenty of potential to be unlocked. In this look, Locklear was up to 80 mph from the outfield and posted a 92 mph exit velocity at the plate.

+ OF Colt McMahon (Paola, 2027) is a projectable, high-upside prospect who should continue to see the power numbers rise as he adds strength to his 6-foot-1 frame. There is plenty to like presently, and in this look McMahon put up exit velocities in the low 90s to go along with a strong arm in the outfield, posting an 80 mph mark on his firmest throw.
