Indiana Prep Drafts: History, Trends, and Takeaways
December 8, 2025
At Prep Baseball, our bandwidth truly covers all the bases of high school baseball within our borders. Our staff is able identify prospects as freshman, sometimes even younger, and watch them blossom into eventual next-level players. Our senior class rankings are set to update soon, and will be expanded to 375 prospects, the rough estimate number of high school baseball players that will move on to play beyond the prep level. For most, they will continue their career as an avenue of obtaining a higher-level education. However, few will move on and turn their abilities into a career within baseball, with Indiana boasting several natives selected from the college ranks in each years' MLB Draft. Even fewer will hear their name called out of high school, and only the select few will receive enough bonus money to forgo their college commitment and head straight to the pro ranks.
I dove into that select few, and found the twenty-two Indiana natives who signed professional contracts straight from high school since 2013. Enjoy some facts, and takeaways, from that group of prospects below.

Takeaways
+ Nearly 64% of the high school draft picks from this data set are still active in some level of professional baseball. While two have reached the highest stage at this point, six are knocking on the door with a chance to debut in 2026.
+ From a positionality standpoint, it is clear that Indiana has become a hotbed for arm talent. Since 2013, almost 70% of the prep drafts from Indiana have been pitchers. In this time frame, our state averages a little over one high school pitcher selected in each draft. 13 drafts have passed, 15 pitchers have signed out of high school. Left-side infielders and outfielders make up all of the position players drafted in this time frame. There was not a high school catcher, or first baseman, selected in this time frame.
+ There is a clear trend of players becoming more apt to sign out of high school within our borders. There have been as many high school signees in the past five drafts (11 from 2021-2025) than we saw in the previous eight drafts (11 from 2013-2020). This trend is also quite fascinating considering the draft was cut in half in 2021, now 20 rounds, where players from 2013 to 2019 were a part of the 40 round draft.
+ From a scouting perspective, 21/22 players who have signed out of high school were 6-foot or taller. RHP Griffin Tobias remains as the only outlier (5'11"). Of the seven position players who signed in this time frame, six hit from the left side of the batters' box (or switch). 3B Cam Decker is the only right-handed hitter to sign out of high school from Indiana since 2013. Additionally, Cam Decker stands as the only player that was not selected as a pitcher, shortstop, or outfielder. Middle of the diamond positions account for over 99% of the bonus money made from 2013 to 2025.
+ Lake Central leads the charge, owning three of the twenty-two players who have signed out of high school. All three have been selected by the Milwaukee Brewers, who also have the most Indiana signees in this time frame (4), and they have selected a Lake Central grad in each of the last three drafts. There is not another high school within this time frame that has had multiple players sign out of high school.
+ Nearly half (10 of 22) of the high school signees have come from within a one hour radius of Indianapolis, an obvious trend from a population perspective. The Evansville area is second with five, while 'The Region' follows close behind with four. This speaks volumes to the competition level in each of these two pockets of our state. South Bend, Southern/Southeast Indiana, and Fort Wayne have each had one player sign out of high school since 2013.
+ Half (11 of 22) of the players who signed out of high school in this time frame are alums of the Prep Baseball Super 60. This group of players earned $14,658,200 in bonus money, 55% of the bonus money earned in this time frame, and includes half of the first rounders from Indiana since 2013.
+ From a bonus perspective, Max Clark's $7.7 million dollar bonus ranks as the 6th highest bonus for a high school prospect in history as of today. He also is the highest career earner of all the players on this list. Since 2013, Indiana prep signees have earned $26,908,400 in bonus money. Max Clark accounts for 28.6% of the money earned by prep signees since 2013.
+ The six first round draft picks our state has seen since 2013 account for $19,795,400 in bonus money, which is 73.8% of the bonus money earned by Indiana prep signees.
