2025 Future Games: Team Canada - Talent Continues To Stand Out At The Future Games

Bruce Hefflinger
Canada Senior Writer

The 14th annual Future Games took place on July 22-27 at LakePoint in Emerson, Georgia. Top uncommitted prospects in the classes of 2027 and 2028 participated in one of the most popular events each year.

There were 36 teams, including Team Canada, with players representing 43 states plus Canadian prospects. Each team played three games the final three days of the event after all position players are put through a showcase workout on Wednesday, the first day of the Future Games.

More than 300 colleges from across the country were looking on as approximately 500 players participated in this year’s event. This year, more than 450 college coaches from all over the country were in attendance.

2025 Future Games: Team Canada - Talent Continues To Stand Out At The Future Games

EMERSON, Ga. - The Future Games, an event that began in 2011, continues to draw raves.

With more than 400 college coaches on hand for the second year in a row, those in attendance come away impressed.

Josh Arce, the Director of Scouting for Prep Baseball Canada, was one of them.

“What stood out to me this year about the Future Games was the amount of talent and how deep the rosters were,” explained the first-year Scouting Director. “With the new recruiting changes in college baseball, states are truly getting the best of the best in every class with no players being able to commit earlier than Aug. 1 going into their junior year. The stat leaderboards that have been coming out post-event are truly impressive.

“This event provides players an opportunity to play in front of 400-plus college coaches against the best players from the U.S. and Canada,” Arce continued. “It is really a one-stop shop for a college coach being able to see the top uncommitted players from coast to coast all in one location.”

The event is something that is continuously on the mind of those working for every state.

“Our staff always has eyes on the next class being eligible for the Future Games,” Arce related. “We honed in on the Class of 2027 whether it was scouting during an event, game, or at a team practice. This is arguably the deepest roster Canada has brought down over the last five years, so kudos to our scouting staff across the country for their work. Our mission is to get players seen across the country, and I believe we do that through our events and social media at the highest level.”

Arce was pleased with what he witnessed out of the Canadian squad, which was made up of players from Ontario to as far away as Victoria.

“Although the Canadian Future Games team didn’t win a game, we expressed to them that this showcase tournament is not about the wins or losses, this was about moments throughout the showcase and three games that would get their name circled on a college coaches roster,” Arce said. “I feel as though our Canadians carried themselves extremely well under pressure. I am extremely proud of the group of players we brought down to LakePoint.”

Interest from coaches has taken place since the event.

“The Canadian players received a ton of interest down at the Future Games, with coaches asking our staff about players on Day 1 and throughout the rest of the week and days following the event,” Arce noted. “Big-time programs from the SEC, ACC, Big 10, Big 12 are just some of the conferences that had schools come and talk with our staff regarding our players. I can’t wait to hear about all the phone calls they have received since Aug. 1.”

While the Future Games for those in the 2027 and 2028 class draws the most attention, the other two events - The Senior Future Games for incoming high school seniors and the Junior Future Games for those in the 2029 class - going on also bring their fair share of interest.

“The Senior Future Games went very well for Team Canada this year,” Arce related. “We already have two committed players that were with us at the event in Rhys Whiteford (USC Upstate) and Matthew Neufeld (Indiana State). With the new schedule change, it was nice for the Seniors having a stand-alone workout/game and their next two games the following day. It was a great turnout for Division 1 schools and top-level JUCO programs from across the country.”

The Juniors also drew the attention of Arce and his staff.

“The Junior Future Games is always one of our staff’s favourite teams to coach and be around,” Arce said. “At that young age, this is usually a players’ first big event and their first time seeing college coaches walking around a complex, so it is an awesome experience for them to come down to LakePoint and compete against other state’s top players to see what could be for them a couple years down the road.

“Our group this year was so much fun to be around. They are very talented players and my staff and I are looking forward to following them throughout their baseball careers for years to come!”

A Prep Baseball thank you to all that participated and a special thanks to the players on Team Canada that gave their thoughts about the event (including what schools have been in contact with them since Aug. 1):

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
Wearing the Team Canada jersey and representing my country was a huge highlight. On the field, I made solid contact in key at-bats and showed my range defensively. The atmosphere and level of competition made it an unforgettable experience.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I think I performed well. I stayed composed under pressure, had quality at-bats, and played solid defense. There’s always room to improve, but I was proud of how I competed.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Canada and what stood out.
Being part of Team Canada was an honour. The bond we formed and the support from the coaching staff really stood out. Competing with top talent from across the country is something I’ll always remember.

The competition was elite. Pitchers brought velocity and command, and position players were strong all around. It challenged me to raise my game and showed what it takes to play at the next level.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
The Future Games offers huge exposure and experience by putting you in front of college coaches and top talent. It builds confidence and shows you where you stand against top competition.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?
No. Either way, I’m staying ready and hopeful that more opportunities will open up as coaches continue to follow up from the Future Games.

It was a phenomenal feeling being able to step on the field representing our country by some of the best players around.

I thought the competition was great, especially seeing that multiple guys we faced were in the high 80s to 90s.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
I think the biggest thing that helped me by going to the Future Games is the coaches and recruiters being able to see me play and therefore helping get my name out there better to colleges.

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
My personal highlights at the Future Games were being able to showcase my strengths as a player. For example, in the first game I hit a double off the wall at 100+ EV. I was also able to show my bat-to-ball skills, my power, and also my aggressive approach.

PBR: Assess your performance.
Overall, I feel good about my performance. Although it wasn’t my best, I was still able to show versatility, an aggressive approach at the plate, my arm strength, and my defensive skills. There are always things to keep improving but I felt confident competing with some of the best talent in my class across North America.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Canada and what stood out.
It was an honour being a part of Team Canada. Being able to play alongside the best in the country and creating connections, it was truly a great experience. What stood out to me was how quickly the team came together and how supportive everyone was of each other.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition that we faced was some of the top talent in the class. It was good to be able to see how the competition in the states compares to Canada, and I was happy to see that we were able to compete and play well against the high competition.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
In my opinion going to the Future Games will benefit your future. If there is a place to be seen and to be exposed to scouts it is at the Future Games. With all of the events I attended this year, the Future Games has already opened more doors and given me more opportunities than any other.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?
I got invited to a camp at Tennessee University, USC Upstate called and so did Akron.

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
The experience of being at Lakepoint in front of all those D-I coaches was very exciting. We were the first game of the event so all eyes were on us which was cool. Pitching for Team Canada in the first game was an honour. I was very happy with my testing and seeing some strong improvement and personal bests in my key stats. I was happy to see that all the hard work led to some good results.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I tested very well and was super happy with my two-way results!  My fastball exceeded 90 and slider was at 84, my max EV was over 104, my speed was a shocking 6.6 - 60, and my OF velo was 93. It went alright on the mound and I was able to show my stuff but I know I have a higher gear with my pitching. I’m going to keep working hard this offseason to get my velocity up, refine my slider and curveball and, hopefully, introduce a changeup into the mix. I felt more comfortable at the plate as the week went along and ended on a positive note with an RBI single to close it out.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Canada and what stood out.
It is a great group of teammates and it always feels incredible to represent your country. Josh, Cam and the PBR reps are a great group and it was fun to come together and play.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was tough! These are some of the best baseball players in North America for my age group so it was valuable for me to see where everyone is at and know what I need to improve on.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
It has definitely opened up opportunities. I doubt my Aug. 1 would’ve been anywhere close to how busy it was if I didn’t attend the Future Games. PBR does an incredible job assembling the best players and coaches at this event, plus their posts about player results are very good and reach a large audience. One of their posts about me had over 30,000 views!

PBR: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?
There have been 15 D1 college coaches who have reached out so far. Being from Alberta, Canada, I don’t get an opportunity to play in front of many D-I coaches, only a handful prior to the Future Games, so having more visibility down at Lakepoint was a huge bonus for me. Plus, the work that Josh and the PBR Canada staff did with both posts and conversations with the coaches was very valuable. They do a fantastic job and really support us.

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
The highlight of my Future Games experience was being able to showcase my skills along with the best players in Canada. Sharing a dugout with so many talented players, some new and some familiar, was a highlight itself.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I felt mediocre about my performance. I managed a quick first inning and had to compete through the second, finishing it with a couple Ks. In particular, I felt my command and stuff were not where they usually are.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Canada and what stood out.
Being part of Team Canada was a true honour. Representing the country amongst the best talent in Canada was an experience I will never forget.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition at the Future Games is one of a kind. Each team is made of some of the best players in America, and it was a pleasure to compete against them.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
Participating in the Future Games can help get your name out there. A good performance can get many schools impressed. This event, being in front of hundreds of eyes, can also help prepare for other big stages in the future.

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
There were a lot of highlights for me being able to participate in this year’s Future Games. Some highlights are being able to play at an amazing facility, watching some talented players, and making connections with new people who love the game as much as I do. But I think my favourite part was being able to wear the Team Canada jersey and represent my country alongside other top talent in Canada.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I believe that I performed up to my personal expectations. I am usually a catcher and pitching has been my secondary position that I have really worked on this season. I started my season with a top velocity of 82 and hit a personal best of 91 a week before the Games. I was happy I was able to hit 90 a few times while down in Atlanta.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Canada and what stood out.
Being part of Team Canada meant a lot to me as a player. I was really honoured to be selected to be one of the players to represent our country down in Atlanta. I wanted to make sure that I represented and honoured the name across my chest. It was great to meet and play with other players across the country who shared the same love for the game. I think if you gave our guys more time together as a team, we would be a pretty strong force to compete against as there are some great players on Team Canada.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was really good! I enjoyed watching the competition from some of the different states to see their level of competitiveness and how we stacked up against them. There are some really talented players out there.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
I think participating in the Future Games allowed me to get a glimpse of how competitive the baseball talent pool is and what I need to personally keep striving for to take my game and skills to the next level if I want to go play on a good college team.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?
I have not been contacted yet, but I hope that will change as I continue to play and grow my skills.

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
One of the biggest highlights was starting Game 2 for Team Canada. I believe bouncing back strong in the second inning showed my ability to adjust and compete under pressure.

PBR: Assess your performance.
My first inning wasn’t as great as I would’ve liked, but I was proud of how I came back in the second inning. With the help of my teammates, I made adjustments, settled in, attacked the zone better and finished the inning with 2 Ks.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Canada and what stood out.
Representing the country was an honour. Putting on that jersey really made me realize how special this experience is. What stood out to me was everyone showed up with a purpose. Everyone came in ready to work and compete, and I love being in that atmosphere.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was tough. Facing that kind of lineup really forces you to compete every pitch. You have to really trust your stuff in order to come out successful. It gave me a good sense of what the next level is gonna be like.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
This event exposes you to knowing how to pitch in that environment, and performing under pressure, which is super valuable moving forward. I will definitely carry all the lessons I’ve learned from this experience with me which will help me grow and get better.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I think I did super great. I'm really happy with my performance.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Canada and what stood out.
I loved being a part of Team Canada. My teammates were super great and I'm so grateful that I got to be a part of that team.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was great. Facing high-80s with great secondaries was an incredible experience, and I feel like it will help me a lot in my career.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
I feel like playing against the best of the best during a whole week is such a great experience and something that will definitely help me in the future. Being a part of the Future Games was such a great experience and the adversity was something I never saw before and I'm so grateful for.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?
Right now, because of the Future Games, I already have interest from four D-I schools and I am super grateful for it!

Richard Marshall RHP / 3B / Img Academy, ON / 2027

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
My highlights from the Future Games were getting a new PR for pitching of 89.5, and also making contact to that level of pitching, hitting in game play 101.4 EV. Having the scouts watching me was a true experience. It was amazing to compete with the most talented players from all over nationally.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I would rate my performance as strong and competitive. I felt particularly confident in pitching, attacking hitters with different speeds and putting the bat to ball while hitting. But I recognize the need to work on not rushing my throws on defense, and taking my time to make a good throw.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Canada and what stood out.
Being a part of Team Canada was an incredible honor. What stood out to me was the selection for our team was truly talented ball players with a great level of experience, and realizing that Canada holds a pretty talented class of 2027.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The level of competition was intense, with many talented athletes showcasing their skills. I was particularly impressed by the level of hitting as a pitcher. It pushed me to elevate my own game.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
Participating in the Future Games has provided valuable exposure to college coaches and networks. I believe this experience will help me target the right opportunities as I continue to pursue my collegiate baseball career. Building connections with coaches and fellow players can open doors for future opportunities, both on and off the field. I am receiving messages for travel teams for next year already which is a goal I had.

Calum Andersen RHP / Vauxhall, AB / 2027

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
Competing against the top players from the various states. It was great to see such an incredible facility playing at Lakepoint sports while also meeting players from all over Canada and the USA. Another highlight was having the opportunity to watch other players from teams across the USA while seeing the calibre of skilled and talented players.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I thought I performed well, showcasing all four of my pitches and showing what I bring to the table. I enjoyed competing at the Future Games against some of the top-ranked talent in North America.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Canada and what stood out.
Being part of Team Canada was special. Wearing my country’s name on my jersey, being able to take the field with the top players in the country gave me a sense of pride and motivation. What stood out to me was how strong our talent matched up to our opponents. I thought we brought lots of energy and opened a lot of eyes.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was incredible. It was definitely some of the best competition I have faced this far. It was great to be able to share the field with such talented players.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
I think the Future Games definitely gave me the opportunity for exposure to college coaches and scouts that I might not have had access to otherwise. Plus, the people I’ve met, the coaches and players, are relationships that will last throughout my baseball career.

Mikey Batiste OF / 1B / Port Credit SS, ON / 2028

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
My main Future Games highlight was hitting a home run the opposite way.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I did well for playing a year up. I adjusted quickly to the better pitching, which will make me more confident going into 16U next year.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Canada and what stood out.
Team Canada was great to play on. Everybody was extremely talented and fun to play with.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was amazing. Each pitcher threw hard, had good off-speeds, and pinpoint accuracy. The hitters had extreme power and great contact ability.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
Participating in the Future Games was a wonderful experience. The talent across America is no joke. You might find success or failure, but will still find pieces of your game to improve on. The Future Games gave me a great opportunity to showcase my talents to many college coaches across the country.

Colin Miller C / 1B / Brooklin, ON / 2027

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
My Future Games highlights would be getting a new PB pop time of 1.84 as well as I stole lots of strikes while catching. I also threw a runner out at third and almost had a runner at first on a back pick.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I would say my performance while hitting wasn’t my best with how I know I can hit, but I felt good with how I played defense while catching. I stole lots of strikes, I blocked lots of balls and I took control of the field letting my team know where the ball is going, where the play is happening, etc. I still felt confident at the plate though knowing that I don’t see this type of talent back at home.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Canada and what stood out.
I loved being a part of Team Canada in such an amazing tournament. I felt a great connection with the boys, and we had a good bond in such a short amount of time. I felt like we all played like a team and supported each other as a team rather than being independent because I know some teams can be like that. What stood out to me about being a part of Team Canada was the fact that we are not representing our state like the U.S. teams, we were representing Canada and it was an honor to do so.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was definitely lots of fun to play in, but very different compared to back home. It was amazing to see how hard you have to work and see all the boys I’m competing against to get that spot. It was definitely eye-opening.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
Participating in the Future Games could help me in the future because I believe it looks great to college coaches. In my opinion, it is the top uncommitted tournament in the world for baseball. Playing in it separates me a lot more and could put me a step ahead of others because at the end of the day everyone is competing and playing for that one spot.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?
As of Aug. 1 at 1:40 p.m. no college coaches have contacted me.

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
Some highlights of mine from this Future Games are my BP rounds and time with my teammates.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I feel that in-game I should have hit better but I played with good energy.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Canada and what stood out.
I like how we are one small group in an event full of people not like us.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition I faced at the event was good and extremely competitive.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
Going to this event can help my future by giving me exposure to college or pro scouts.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?
I have had six ACC or SEC schools reaching out to me, including UNC, Vandy, Virginia, Mizzou, etc.
