New Jersey Class of 2028 Rankings: Updated

TJ Hunt
Director, Prep Baseball NJ

The 2028 class dipped their feet into the summer circuit for the first time in their high school careers, with several high octane arms and power bats rising to the top. Early on, it looks to be heavy on the arms, as is with most early rankings cycles. There will be more to come after this fall and certainly in the winter, but here's another early look at the current sophomore class, the Class of 2028.

Shake-ups and Newcomers

After a successful summer, James Fenton (Metuchen) rises to the No. 1 slot. 6-foot-5 and lanky, with a clean arm action, Fenton was up to 90 in June and showcased advanced feel for spin for strikes, too. Along with Fenton is another tall, broad shouldered right hander in RHP Parker Klug (Delbarton). Klug was a top performer in limited action at the Super Sophomore Games as a two way player, showcasing true raw power from the left side as well as a fastball up to 91 mph. Both guys will continue to add strength to their frames, but early on in their high school careers, these two guys are among the best.

RHP/OF Luke Dana (Wall) was another top guy on the Super Sophomore team - showcasing a fastball in the mid to upper 80s and a powerful punch at the plate from the right side. 7.14 runner, 90 OF velo, and among the younger players in the class, expect Dana to be a major guy as he continues to fill out his 6-foot-3 frame.

OF Ty Madden (Don Bosco) is among the top newcomers to the rankings. Lean, athletic 6-feet 167-pounds, Madden clocked a 6.98 60 and showcased an effortless left handed stroke that produced some of the loudest contact we had at the Super Sophomore Games.

A guy to watch for this offseason and into the spring will be RHP Preston Pahang (Ocean City). Already into the low-90s with the heater, Pahang enjoyed a solid freshman campaign for Ocean City, logging 26.1 IP, 12 H, 29 K. Continued polishing is needed but the arm talent is certainly present.

C Eddie Mitchell (Lenape) and Jackson Soos (Wall) were two guys that also stood out this summer, especially at the Super Sophomore Games. Mitchell's arm talent from behind the plate is among the best in the class at this juncture while Soos's combination of bat speed, strength and advanced athleticsm speak for themselves.

SS Luca Catanzarite (Immaculata) is as consistent as they come at the plate with his barrel accuracy and timing. He's never overmatched and produces hard contact in game. He'll be a staple in the top of the order for Immaculata for the next three years.
