Smith Stays At #1

Sam Smith OF / LHP / Central Catholic, OR / 2028Rankings StateRank: 1
The dynamic athlete maintains the top spot for the third consecutive list after a stellar 2025 start to finish. Smith was seen this winter at PNW Preseason All-State, where he showcased his ultra-smooth, mature two-way ability. The Central Catholic outfielder started his event with a 6.96 60-yard dash, and the speed translates on-field when running the bases and manning the outfield. The lefty also posted exit velocities up to 93 MPH, generating considerable batspeed for his frame with a smooth operation. Smith also has present arm strength, with outfield throws up to 85 MPH and throwing a FB up to 83 MPH as a part of a 3-pitch mix on the mound. Smith built on his strong preseason to have an exceptional spring campaign for Central Cathlolic, both atop their lineup and as one of their main arms. The lefty will be a must-follow moving forward and will be an exciting watch at this fall's Super Sophomore event in Eugene. From 2/24/25... "One of the sweeter strokes of the entire event came from the 5-foot-10, 160-pounder from Oregon. Smith’s fluid movement patterns were almost as noticeable as the perpetual barrels that he delivered from the first pitch. Still maturing, with much more strength on the way, he drove the gaps with line drive after line drive. A simple stride separated the hands down and back creating a minor rubber band effect in pulling the barrel quickly through the zone zone with considerable lag and intent to stay on the ball. The polish and maturity of the workout cannot be understated and provides Smith with a sturdy foundation with which to build upon." |
Summer Standouts Throughout the Ranks

Drew Schmidt C / OF / Sherwood, OR / 2028Rankings StateRank: 4
The Sherwood product was already near the top of the ranks and solidified his status as one of the most talented sophomores in the state at his first Prep Baseball showcase this July. Schmidt's athleticism for the catcher position stood out in a big way, running a 6.98 60-time while posting a best pop time of 2.02 seconds as well. It's a quick transfer with minimal wasted movement with a lower 3/4 slot release, and could easily jump up into the 1.9-second range as he continues to develop. Offensively, the lefty showcased a balanced, direct approach, producing line drive contact to the big part of the field with ease. Schmidt works with aggressive intent on a firm front side at the dish to generate hard contact. The 6'0 athlete should continue to progress well and be a big time position player in the coming years. |

Micah Burrell SS / OF / Ida B. Wells-Barnett, OR / 2028Rankings StateRank: 7
Burrell was another L/R prospect who stood out with his athleticism and well-rounded skillset. Seen at our event at the University of Portland this June and later at the PNW State Games, the lefty bat showed present power with exit velocities up to 93 MPH and balls hit up to 346 feet. Burrell works with some classic left-handed loft in his swing, with an easy, repeatable operation and a longer two-handed finish. The Wells product also showed sound feet with quick defensive actions at shortstop. Burrell also ran a 7.17 60-yard dash to round out his showcase. With plenty of room to fill out in his 6'0 frame, it remains to be seen if he will stick up the middle athletically or transition to more of a power hitting, physical third base type of role. |

Beau Johnson OF / RHP / Wilsonville, OR / 2028Rankings StateRank: 8
Seen at two events this July, Johnson made the most of his looks and works his way into the top 10 for the first time. The Wilsonville High School player had already worked his way atop the lineup by the end of his freshman spring, and the athleticism and hard-nosed style of play was on full display at this summer's PNW State Games. A 6.93 runner, Johnson has plenty of quick-twitch from the left side of the dish, featuring a flatter approach with an abbreviated finish through contact. Johnson was able to drive the ball to the gaps from a sligther frame, posting a peak exit velocity of 92.4 MPH and averaging 84.6 MPH. The athleticism translated defensively as well, where short, quick strides covered ground in the outfield with throws up to 83 MPH as well. On the mound, Johnson threw to the bottom of the zone from a simple, up-tempo delivery that's easily repeatable. The FB sat 80-82 MPH, paired with two lower-spin breaking balls. One of the better athletes in the class should be a varsity contributor for years to come. |

Samuel Hoda RHP / 3B / Sprague, OR / 2028Rankings StateRank: 16
Seen at the University of Oregon at the Eugene Summer ID, Hoda impressed mightily with his operation on the mound and ability to produce flush contact at the plate. The lean righty features a smooth wind with a clean, more compact arm action into a 3/4 slot release. The momentum is carried through his target with a controlled deceleration through his release. Hoda worked the FB up to 80 MPH in his latest look, and more velocity could easily come as the frame continues to develop. Offensively, the righty sets with a wider base with a toe-tap load, firing with a slight uphill barrel path through the zone. Hoda peaked with a 92.2 MPH exit velocity and averaged 89.1 MPH, a great number for his class. As the lean 6'1 frame adds strength, look for Hoda to be a breakout performer in the future. |
