Kansas Summer Rankings Update: Class of 2027

Andy Urban
Regional Supervisor

As the summer season comes to a close, the Prep Baseball Kansas staff has once again updated the state’s 2027 rankings. We have one of our biggest updates to date after our loaded tournaments and showcase season. We saw over 150 talented juniors, with more than 50 new names making their rankings debut. This class is headlined by physically imposing right-handed arms and a polished group of outfielders at the top.

It is important to note that in an update this large, there are players who may decline in total rank—even with improvement and passing some peers—simply due to the number of names added. For an in-depth look at how we put our rankings together, click HERE.

Notable changes to these rankings include prolific risers in the top 25 and five newcomers in the top 60.

RISERS

There was massive amounts of movment in this rankings. Below we take a look at the biggest risers in the top 25.

Owen Lester SS / OF / Lawrence Free State, KS / 2027

Lester had a solid spring for the 6A state champs, but it was an eye-popping summer capped by a strong showing at the Future Games that sees his name slide up 25 spots into the top 10. One of the most polished all-around games in the state, with plenty of projection remaining.

Jake Busse RHP / 1B / Olathe Northwest, KS / 2027

Busse has long been one of the most projectable players in the region, but this summer that projection started to become reality as he made a 10 mph velo jump, touching 95 at the Heart of America ID. The 6-foot-7 right-hander could easily continue climbing the rankings with a sky-high ceiling as he sharpens his command of the zone.

Brody Clasen RHP / 2B / Mulvane, KS / 2027

An athletic two-way prospect, Clasen currently shines brightest on the mound. A member of the all-time strikeout-leading Mulvane staff this year, Clasen didn’t log big innings in the spring, but he was dominant this summer, highlighted by his Future Games outing. Clasen jumps 88 spots.

Carson Cooke RHP / 3B / Mill Valley, KS / 2027

A high-end competitor with one of the top sliders in the state, Cooke showcased both throughout the spring and at this year’s Future Games. Cooke climbs 20 spots.

Dylan Eikenbary LHP / 1B / Piper, KS / 2027

Up 70 spots in the rankings, Eikenbary has added both velocity and command, earning the title of top-ranked left-hander in the class.

Newcomers

Over 50 new names enter this rankings, below we check out the top five.

Micah Gray SS / RHP / Emporia, KS / 2027

A strong-bodied athlete, Gray debuts at No. 28 after touching 90 on the mound at the KS Curve Scout Day. He can play nearly every position on the field with proficiency and is a must-see prospect.

Skyler Bernbeck 2B / SS / Blue Valley, KS / 2027

Few infielders were more productive at the plate this summer than Bernbeck. The left-handed hitter consistently showed bat-to-ball skills against every level of arm he faced.

Evan Cates OF / RHP / Olathe Northwest, KS / 2027

Running a 6.5 60 and throwing 94 from the outfield at the Top Prospect Games, Cates profiles as a lockdown center fielder and could easily climb our rankings as he adds strength with the bat.

Ferris Dinkel OF / C / Lawrence Free State, KS / 2027

Dinkel showcased an impressive all-around toolset at the Wichita Summer ID. The 6-foot-2, 160-pound outfielder looks poised for a breakout season.

Grayson McFall SS / RHP / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2027

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound shortstop shows above-average tools in every facet of his game, with his defensive actions being his calling card.
