Class of 2027 Rankings Update: Trends & Insights

The Prep Baseball North Carolina Class of 2027 Rankings have been updated and expanded to feature the Top 275 players in the state. This marks the most comprehensive look yet at a class that continues to emerge with new names, developing tools, and future projection.

Rankings Expansion & Evaluation Period

The rankings expansion includes over 60 new players making their debut. The Prep Baseball staff conducted a broad evaluation throughout the summer, with 260+ players from the 2027 class considered through events, tournaments, and workouts. This effort provided an in-depth look at the depth of the junior group.

Positional Distribution

The updated list reflects balance across the diamond while showing strength in both infield depth and pitching:

• Infielders: 93 (34% of ranked players)
• Outfielders: 65 (24%)
• Right-Handed Pitchers: 66 (24%)
• Left-Handed Pitchers: 15 (5%)
• Catchers: 37 (13%)

This breakdown highlights infielders and pitchers as highly sought after commodities.  Nearly one in three ranked players calls the dirt home. Pitching depth is also notable, with more than 80 arms between right-handers and left-handers.

Commitment Trends

With the 2027 class just beginning their recruiting journey, college commitments remain limited. Five players have already pledged to programs, an early signal of the talent that has begun to draw recruiter attention. 

Four of the five commitments are to in-state schools with North Carolina State already landing two highly prized targets.  Four of the five commitments attended the 2025 Prep Baseball Future Games with Team NC.

Key Insights

• The depth of infielders stands out, with 93 players making up the largest positional group in the class.
• There is depth in the outfielder and catching positions.  As the class continues to grow in the next year, expect to see the slots to be very competitive within these positions.
• With only five commitments, there remains tremendous opportunity for players in 2027 Class to establish themselves in the recruiting landscape over the next two years.
• The expansion to 275 players underscores the depth and growth of North Carolina’s 2027 class, which continues to show potential across all positions.

The 2027 Rankings update offers the most detailed snapshot yet of this class, and as these players move into pivotal development years, the landscape will continue to evolve with new names and breakout performers.
