From Friday, August 1st through Sunday August 3rd, the PB New Jersey staff traveled to the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC, to participate in the second annual East Coast Super Sophomore Games.

The event consists of some of the top sophomores from New England, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Today, we are taking some time to spotlight the members of Team New Jersey, with scouting reports and videos, below.

Position Players

OF Connor Bresler (Delbarton 2028)
Bresler had an eye opening weekend, he was consistently on the barrel all weekend in gameplay. The ball sounded different off the bat in his round of BP as well as during games. In the showcase, Bresler reached 96 mph EVs, with an average of 90 mph while flashing an average bat speed of 71 mph. The outfielder also ran a 6.88 60-yard time and tossed 88 mph from his position. The No. 2 ranked prospect in the NJ 2028 class.

SS Luca Catanzarite (Immaculata, 2028)
It seemed like every time the lineup turned over, Catanzarite was putting together a professional at bat, usually ending up with a barrel toward the big part of the field. It was impressive to watch his at bats throughout the weekend. In his round of BP, reached 97 mph EV with an average of 90 mph and a max distance of 351’. Also, tossed 87 mph across the infield, currently the No. 18 prospect in the state’s 2028 class.

OF Luke Dana (Wall, 2028)
Dana turned around one of the loudest batted balls of any player from the event on day one, a screaming double to the right-center gap at Sock Puppet Stadium. Dana is going to be a guy to watch for on both sides of the field with his projectable 6-foot-3, 191-pound frame. In the workout, Dana peaked at 94 mph EV with some bat speed. Dana threw 90 mph from the OF and ran a 7.14 60-yard time.

OF Owen Ehrenkranz (Gill St. Bernards, 2028)
Ehrenkranz continues to put together impressive showings on the big stage. Continuously shows a whippy/athletic barrel through the zone. In the showcase part of the event, topped at 96 mph EV with an average of 90 mph and tossed 89 mph from the outfield. On the mound, ran the fastball up to 85 mph while flashing a curveball and changeup.

SS Vince Filis (Princeton Day 2028)
Filis is a dark horse type, under the radar prospect. Plays fast, on time with the barrel, tough at bats all weekend long. Also, impressed in the showcase, peaking at 93 mph, with an average of 88 mph, and max distance of 342’. Filis also ran a 7. 01 60-yard time and tossed 77 mph across the infield.

OF Carson Frazier (Toms River East, 2028)
Frazier is a guy you have to follow for a couple years. A big contributor to Toms River East spring campaign, Frazier has projection to his frame at 6-foot-3, 162-pounds. Strength is still needed to put it all together, but when it does come, it’ll be impactful. In the showcase, Frazier had a max EV of 93 mph and topped 80 mph on the bump. Currently ranked No. 15 in the state’s ‘28 class.

OF James Gaven (Delbarton, 2028)
Gaven is a hard nosed player and made his presence known with tough at bats and swiping bags all weekend long. Gaven tossed 84 mph from the outfield and had a max EV of 90 mph in the showcase. Currently the No. 13 ranked prospect in the state’s 2028 class.

3B Anthony Huaranga (St. Peter’s Prep, 2028)
The top ranked ‘28 in the state, Huaranga was a presence at the plate in the LHH box. Ran into some hard luck at the plate but logged some loud barrel outs and had a strong workout day. Peaked his EV at 96 mph while averaging 92 mph and a max distance of 374’. Huaranga flashed an impressive avg. bat speed at 72 mph and tossed 83 mph across the infield.

OF Parker Klug (Delbarton, 2028)
Klug really exploded on workout day with arguably the most impressive showing all around. Loud gap to gap pop and one of the top OF velos. Peaked at 100.4 EV with an average of 94 mph and a max distance of 351’, had an impressive avg. bat speed of 73 mph.

OF Ty Madden (Don Bosco Prep, 2028)
Madden is probably the most interesting prospect on this team. Sub 7-runner (6.98), athletic, whippy lefty stroke and interestingly enough, had some of the best vertical jump metrics (26.7 in.) from any player at this event which goes to show his explosiveness. Strength still to come, but it’s looking like another advanced lefty swing from Don Bosco Prep. Touched 99 mph EV in BP with a max distance of 381’.

C Eddie Mitchell (Lenape, 2028)
Mitchell’s overall strength for his age is noteworthy, 5-foot-8, 196-pound frame. That paired with a strong arm from behind the plate bode well for him as he continues through his high school career. Threw out several runners in key spots during the weekend. Had a max EV of 98 mph, max distance of 369, and flashed a 1.89-2.03 pop time while throwing 77 mph from the chute. Currently ranked No. 6 in the state’s 2028 class.

1B Brayden Moughan (Gloucester Catholic, 2028)
Projectable 6-foot-3, 201-pound frame with a lot to like at the plate. Present power, strength still coming. In the showcase, was up to 96 mph EVs, with a max distance of 365’. Currently ranked No. 21 in the NJ 2028 class.

SS Darien Quiceno (Scotch Plains-Fanwood, 2028)
Quiceno is interesting and has the bounce and footwork foundation. Right now, adding strength will be his biggest benefit but expect Quiceno to make strides as he continues to fill out, currently 6-foot, 150-pounds with a 89 mph max EV, and the 22nd ranked prospect in the state’s 2028 class.

C Jake Small (Jefferson Township, 2028)
Small, like Mitchell, has advanced catch and throw capabilities, flashed a 1.95-2.12 pop time and threw 77 mph from the chute. Quiet, soft hands and footwork. Able to handle velocity well, too, peaked at 91 mph EVs. Currently ranked No. 17 in the NJ ‘28 class.

SS Jackson Soos (Wall, 2028)
Soos can really impact the baseball with authority. Like his high school teammate Dana, Soos blistered a couple balls over the weekend, although made tough outs doing so. Really like the strength and bat to ball skills presently. Soos was up to 97 mph EV, averaged 92 mph, and had a max distance of 365’. Also, tossed 88 mph across the infield, the 10th ranked prospect in the state.

OF Quinn Weber (Rutherford, 2029)
Another guy that will continue to improve with added strength, but Weber’s frame at 6-foot-5, 184-pounds is nothing to bat an eye at. Offensively, more advanced right now than on the mound, Weber’s velocity and power will come. Was up to 93 mph EVs and had a max distance of 348’. Currently ranked No. 26 in the state’s 2028 class.

SS Mikey Angelo (Gloucester Catholic, 2028)
Athletic 5-foot-, 152-pound frame, put together some competitive at-bats all weekend long and was a spark plug in the lineup. Toughness to his game. In the showcase, topped his EV at 88 mph, with some bat speed.

Standout Pitchers

RHP Luke Dana (Wall, 2028)
Dana was among the best arms on the team and of the entire event. Fastball jumped and wrinkled in a tough looking slider, too. Fastball worked at 85-88 mph with 2200+ rpm, slider was 73-76 mph, and the change was 76-78 mph with an avg. of 16 in. of HM.

RHP Owen Ehrenkranz (Gill St. Bernards, 2028)
Ehrenkranz has loose, wiry and athletic arm action and showcased advanced feel for spin, too. The fastball plates at 83-84 T85 mph, with 18 in. of total movement, the slider was 73-75 mph with 2100+ rpm, and mixed in a changeup in the mid to high 70s.

RHP Anthony Huaranga (St. Peter’s Prep, 2028)
Huaranga is brutish on the mound with his fastball in the upper 80s and mixes in a true slider at 71-76 mph. Too early to tell whether Huaranga will be a pitcher or position guy at the next level, but he certainly has the advanced capabilities at the moment.

RHP Parker Klug (Delbarton, 2028)
This event was a big weekend for Klug. Topped at 90.7 on the mound, sat 86-89 mph and flashed a good feel for spin too (2070 avg.). Long, loose arm action. Projectable 6-foot-4, 213-pound frame. High follow guy for sure.
