Top 5 Analysis

Jacob Lombard SS / 2B / Gulliver Prep, FL / 2026Uncommitted. Lombard continued to impress as the most polished player in the class with graceful athleticism on both sides of the ball. His 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame stands out and should see a considerable amount of strength added while maintaining its nimble agility. The swing and impact potential of the bat is what will ultimately be the key to how high he can rise in the class from his highest of floors. There is a professional approach from the right side with acute intent to keep the barrel on the ball with a two-handed, emphasized stroke. Featuring a slightly uphill approach, Lombard rarely got cheated in getting off aggressive, controlled swings with some torque. There was some swing-and-miss throughout the event, namely to the top of the zone with fastballs, but he tracked effortlessly, even getting off big swings on adjusted breaking balls. Any attention paid to the whiff% should also be paid to the OBP as Lombard has routinely worked deep into counts with advanced strike zone awareness and even when not going at his best, still manages to get on base where his speed and instincts are another weapon. - Shooter Hunt (8/1/25) |

Gio Rojas LHP / 1B / Stoneman Douglas, FL / 2026Rojas, a Miami recruit, had a sensational spring (named Prep Baseball Florida PoTY), and entered the summer as the top pitching prospect in the class. At 6-foot-3, 180-pounds with a square-shouldered, ultra-athletic frame, he whipped in fastballs up to 97 mph throughout 3.1 dominant innings that saw the southpaw strike out eight against two walks and just one hit. He countered a sizzling fastball that included 2700+ rpm with a sweeping, sharper slider at 78-80 (2700+) which he confidently threw for strikes as well as burying hitters late. Unnecessary in this look, he also flashed solid feel for a faded changeup. A dynamic mover whose loose, whippy arm pumps out of a low ¾ slot, there still appears to be upside to the arsenal. However, the present stuff is elite, and given his highest end athleticism (he also went 5-for-11 out of the 4-hole while busting out 4.1 run-times from the right side), he should be able to make advancements and adjustments with ease. There is a relaxed ease to Rojas’ presence on the diamond, but he is an impressive competitor whose baseball IQ and pitchability stand out at all times. - Shooter Hunt (6/16/25) |

Coleman Borthwick 3B / RHP / South Walton, FL / 2026It will ultimately be up to whatever team drafts him to decide, as Borthwick has made it nearly impossible to dictate which side of the ball holds his greatest value. At 6-foot-6, 254-pounds of imposing, durable strength, he should not be able to move as freely as he does, and the simplicity of his right-handed stroke should not generate the huge power outputs that it does. The Auburn recruit went 7-for-13 with a double, triple, and mammoth home run that cleared the famed bubble at Lakepoint. Setting up slightly open in an athletic crouch, a shorter leg kick separates the hands fluidly from the ear into a power position before a tight approach exhibits effortless bat speed and lag in the zone. His body control, and especially the ability to control the forward move while maintaining balance, is impressive, and he effortlessly gets to his highest end power to all fields. Aggressive on the mound, he features the quick, whippy arm stroke of a shortstop, and powered fastballs at a bullying 93-96 with some sizzling action to the bottom of the zone. A tighter sweeper was seen in this look at 82-85, flashing wipeout potential with tunneling attributes. He also demonstrated some feel for a developing changeup at 82 mph. One of the better strike throwers in the class, he struck out three in 2.2 innings, allowing just one hit. Borthwick routinely gets tossed into difficult situations because his low-pulse competitiveness allows him to thrive in spots where others falter. Any professional scout heading out to see Borthwick this summer (and beyond) will want to do so with the understanding that there are few that are as comfortable in any situation as the big two-way prospect, and he is FAR more than just a big, strong body. - Shooter Hunt (6/19/25) |

Brady Harris OF / OF / Trinity Christian Academy (JAX), FL / 2026Trinity Christian Academy, FL) Florida recruit. Even without his best showing, Harris was able to produce and make an impact. Spring looks are likely to be much better as the ultra-competitive and athletic, 6-foot-2, 185-pound center fielder appeared a bit worn down throughout the week, but still managed to barrel a handful of balls with successful results. Perhaps a bit stiffer in the setup with the hands held deeper back below the shoulder, some inconsistency to the path provided for some struggles at time in workouts, although the bat and handspeed, and especially the lower-half strength, continued to show well. Hardly alarming, this look has become routine for many top prospects who are trying to fight through the mid-summer heat in Cary, and the fact that Harris was still able to succeed without being in peak form only amplifies his upside which holds strikingly similar status to that of Dylan Crews back in 2020. The bigger takeaway from gameplay and workouts was just how gifted and precise his footwork in the outfield is. A quick first step and an agile gate provide advanced closing speed that are lifted up by plus glove work and a plus arm. Running downhill with a low center of gravity, he looked the part of an above average center fielder throughout the week and is at or near the top of a stout crop of outfielders in this year’s class. The subtleties of this look combined with the long track record of success that Harris now carries, are more than enough to warrant many looks over the next year with earlier Day 1 consideration. - Shooter Hunt (8/1/25) |

Kaden Waechter RHP / SS / Jesuit, FL / 2026Waechter, a Florida State recruit, doubles as one of the better shortstops in the class, and it would be wise to give him as many opportunities to continue as a position player given the warrior-like competitiveness that drives him. Having said that, the polish and starter profile that he displays on the mound is hard to ignore. Working 93-96 with more than 2700 rpm on an explosive fastball, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-hander went 3.1 innings with five strikeouts while yielding just a (questionable) walk and a hit. Amped up to start the game, the slider took shorter cutter shape during the first two innings at 85-87 before the adrenaline appeared to wear off a bit, and allowed the arm to work a bit freer in ripping off near plus-sliders with more depth and wipeout potential. He also flashed feel for what appeared to be a powerful kick-change at 87 mph. Moving well down the mound, there is an ease to the operation with the makings of two plus-pitches, and given the relatively limited amount of time that the talented two-way devotes to mound work, there still might be substantial advancements to come. - Shooter Hunt (6/16/25) |
