VENTURA, CALIF. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series returns after a jam packed summer of Prep Baseball California events, summer travel baseball, and other opportunities to evaluate players we will be recognizing some of the top remaining uncommitted players around the state. We will be looking at players from the 2026 class and 2027 classes across the upcoming weeks/months.

We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.

Today, we put the spotlight on a fast rising 2026 player who is sure to join our 2026 California rankings after a loud spring and summer. We are looking at SoCal '26 3B/2B Dylan Wood from Ruben S. Ayala High School in Chino Hills, Calif..  The Bulldogs made another run to a Palomares League title in 2025 and the offensive performance of Wood was a key piece of their success. The RH hitting Wood posted a slash line of .444/.506/.542 in 83 plate appearances and 72 official at bats playing in 26 of the Bulldogs 28 games on the season. Wood had 32 total hits with four doubles, one home run, drove in 25 runs (tops on the team) while scoring 22 runs. His .444 average was second base with his .506 OBP topping the Bulldogs showing his sound offensive approach in game drawing seven walks while striking out only four times all season. He stole 11 bases in 13 attempts.

Wood made his first appearance on the Prep Baseball California platform this summer with a standout showing at the OC Summer ID which combined with his loud spring performance brought him a 2025 California State Games invite where he was a star performer over the three days of the event (workout + three games). His consistency of performance combined with a strong overall defensive and offensive profile should have college programs paying close attention to Wood as a piece for the 2026 recruiting classes.

Wood showed very well on his offensive metrics across both events. A RH hitter he shows an impressive ability to generate torque in his swing through his core/hips with a peak rotational acceleration of 20.9 Gs while using quickness in his hands with a 22.9 MPH peak hand speed that combine into a high quality bat speed metric of 70.8 MPH. The overall swing profile plays well with his strong feel for getting to launch on time and delivering the barrel with accuracy. Wood has peaked at 94.8 MPH on his exit velocity playing to the middle to pull side of the field with doubles power through the gaps and enough impact to run a ball out to the pullside (365' max distance) while averaging a strong 88.5 MPH on his exit velocity. The underlying data from Trackman for Wood shows the strength of his present offensive profile with a 50% hard hit rate, 50% sweet spot rate who uses a flatter swing path that trends to hard line drives and grounders through the middle of the field with loft to the pull side.

Wood is athletically built at 6' 160.9 lbs. presently and has the room on his frame to add strength in the 10-20 lbs range as he continues to mature. His athletic profile is one that profiles to a 3B/2B defender having run 60 times between 6.92-7.1 over his two events while showing burst off the line that projects to the quickness to stay on the INF dirt long term. His arm is plenty strong for 2B reaching 86 MPH on his throws with solid accuracy and should be able to handle 3B long term at the collegiate level with a tick more strength over the coming years. As well, he is plenty athletic enough and with the offensive profile that can handle the OF at the next level.

With a strong history of performance through his high school stats, live looks by our scouting staff, event performances and more there is plenty of reasons for college programs to be jumping into the recruiting mix for Wood.
