South Texas Uncommitted Games: Catcher Analysis

On Thursday, August 7th, the PB Texas staff traveled to Blinn College in Brenham, TX, to host the South Texas Uncommitted Games, an event for uncommitted 2026 & 2027 prospects.
Over 70 players made their way to Blinn and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Texas staff.

Today, we take a look at the scouting reports on every catcher in attendance as well as rank the top 4 from the event.
TOP CATCHERS
1. Zakary Wood, Dayton (TX), 2026
Positional Profile: C/2B RHH/C with good build to add strength. Solid receiver with nice pop times in workout. Shows raw arm strength present. Solid tools to develop at plate, power over hit. Adjustments available to firm hit ability, shows raw power now with opportunity to firm. Catcher with arm strength and power.
Body: 5-11, 188.7 pounds. Good build/frame. Avg width to shoulders and back. Nice lower half, with some strength. Will keep adding strength with future growth and maturity. Good physical projections.
Hit: RHH. Back foot gets stuck in rotation, get back foot fully turned and on time. Back foot slides towards 3rd base, drive back foot forward into firm front side engaging lower 1/2 completely. Rolls onto side of stride foot and into heel hindering balance and lower 1/2 use. Stay into ground of stride foot. Barrel/hands in good launch position. Long swing, barrel works back, down and around. Cast hands out. Take hands on direct path to hit zone with barrel following on path. Great spot to start from. Long swing power present. 66.5 mph bat speed with 10g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 101 mph max exit velocity (88.4 avg.); 380-foot max batted distance. Project solid bat/power combo in future with adjustments to hit approach and swing. Contact consistency and impact will firm with changes. Raw tools present to develop at plate.
Arm: RH. C - 79 mph. Arm works well, above avg HS raw arm strength, firm with carry.
Defense: 1.83-2.00 pop time range; Clean, fluid actions. Stays low. Feet and lower half move well. Glove exchange is clean.
Athletic Testing: 7.66 runner in the 60-yard dash; Strides have length. Arm swings have a good direction. Upright runner, create a slight forward tilt with head.
