Senior Future Games: Team Carolina Workout Breakdown

The end of July has become one of the most pivotal periods on the amateur baseball recruiting calendar. The Prep Baseball Future Games, held annually at LakePoint in Emerson, GA, brings together the top uncommitted talent from across the country—drawing national attention from college programs coast to coast. With over 400 college coaches expected in attendance, the 2025 Future Games stands as a premier showcase event for aspiring collegiate athletes.

This year’s event once again features a three-tiered structure:

  • The Senior Future Games, spotlighting uncommitted players from the Class of 2026
  • The traditional Future Games, highlighting the Class of 2027
  • And the Junior Future Games, featuring select talent from the 2029 and 2030 classes

The Future Games is the marquee event of the week, drawing over 400 college coaches and scouts again in 2025.  The rising 2027 class was featured this year with a workout day on Wednesday, followed by three days of game play. Team NC showed out with high level college follows and several MLB Draft follows on the roster.

Below, we take a closer look at how the Team North Carolina performed in front of a packed house of college coaches and professional scouts at LakePoint.

QUICK HITTERS: TEAM NORTH CAROLINA ARMS

Lawson Copeland, RHP, Myers Park HS, 2027

Physical presence. Broad shoulders. Strong lower half. Stands 6-foot-2, 190 pounds. Strong arm. Athletic mover. Choppy rhythm in the delivery with a chance for the movement patterns to continue to tick stuff up in the coming years. Fastball averaged 19.1in of induced vertical break, peaking at 24.4in. Ranged 85-88. Solid arm side run as well. Slider at 74-76, 1959rpm. 10/4 tilt with horizontal action out weighing depth. Easy projection. Big arm potential.

Dru Gaddy, LHP, Surry Central HS, 2027

Strength present. Average build. 6-foot-1, 186 pounds. Some head movement over the rubber. Works from the 3B side. Cross-fire in the landing with a short arm action and low-¾ slot. Tough look on left-handed hitters. Big sink-slide potential vs. hitters. Fastball averaged 13in of horizontal action. Hard, heavy, and boring action at times getting some awkward takes and swings. Slider at 72-76, 2011rpm, 14in of horizontal action. Will be a fun follow as there is a niche available for him now, and there is still room to his ultimate ceiling.

Trevor Yancey, RHP, Providence Day, 2027

Power in the build at 6-foot, 190 pounds. Good athlete and mover down the hill. Clean arm works to an over-the-top slot with a medium arm circle. Around the zone. Advanced feel for landing his slider. Breaking ball is a potential out pitch at the next level. Fastball sat 87-88, 2021. Slider 74-77, 2386rpm, peaking at 2529rpm. Late depth created swing and miss and soft contact. Flashed a solid change-up at 76-79. Potential early contributor at the next level with the development of fastball location and a 3rd pitch raising his stock significantly.

Simon Brutskiy, RHP, Apex HS, 2027

Powerful build. Muscular definition in the lower half. Stands 5-foot-11, 190 pounds. Short inning profile at this time with the development of fastball command and a 3rd pitch giving him a higher ceiling. Potential for a high leverage situational role. Can really spin the baseball. Curveball ranged 73-77, sitting at 3062rpm, peaking at 3255. Hard, late downer action, peaking at -21.6in of induced vertical action. Shows feel for landing and expanding the breaking ball at times. Fastball has cutting action at 84-87, 2476rpm.

Will Parrish, RHP, Charlotte Christian, 2027

Lean build with athleticism present. Strength in the 6-foot-2, 189 pounds. Easy projection in the stuff as he continues to mature and fill out the frame. Excellent mover. Loose hips. Solid direction. Good rhythm. Clean arm works through a long stroke to a high-¾ slot. Good arm speed. Fastball peaked at 88.7, 2240rpm. Average ride with limited run. Metrics should continue to differentiate as he matures into the frame. Good 3-pitch mix. Breaking ball at 73-76, 1752rpm. Works through a 11/5 tilt. Late at times. Similar tunnel to the fastball. Good feel for a change-up. Solid arm speed. Should be a pro follow over the next 18 months to 2 years.

Mikey Scaletta, LHP, Covenant Day School, 2027

Average build. Athletic. Stands 6-foot, 185 pounds. Ran a 4.09 thirty yard split on workout day. Athletic over the rubber. Loose hips. Stable head. Medium arm swing works through an over-the-top slot. Athletic arm and release. Fastball had late action when on the arm side. Sat 82-85, touching 86. Breaking ball has out-pitch potential. Ranged 73-75, 2165rpm. Big action with 11/5 tilt. More freeze in the zone and chase out of the zone. Athletic lefty with an athletic arm and a feel for a breaking ball could be a valued commodity in the next few years.

Colt Briggs, RHP, St. Stephens HS, 2027

Lean, straight line build. Stands 6-foot-2, 174 pounds. Still maturing. Simple lift. Stable head. Level. Works across his line with his foot-strike. Medium arm action. Over-the-top slot. Good arm speed. Solid whip through the release. Fastball up to 88, 2655rpm. Average spin at 2449rpm. Sink metrics with the induced vertical action at 9.9in. Limited horizontal action. Breaking ball range 76-80, 2538rpm. Velocity may suggest a jump coming with the fastball. Solid action. Similar window to the fastball. Attacked hitters. As he continues to add strength, the stuff should tick up with some ease.

Kameron Keenan, RHP, North Buncombe HS, 2027

Length present with an athletic posture at 6-foot-6, 205 pounds. Excellent feel for his body and the strike zone for his size. Level and in-line. Short strider. Long arm swing. High-¾ slot. Good arm speed. Showed fastball to both sides. Elevated to finish at bats on several occasions. Fastball at 86-89, 2214rpm. Heavy arm side run, peaking at 20.9in. Slider ranged 71-73, 2258rpm. 10/4 tilt with length over depth. At times the slider played explosive, running off the end of the bat. Good feel for a change-up with 15in of horizontal.

Luke Samples, RHP, CE Jordan HS, 2027

Impressive length and feel. Showed the ability to manipulate the zone. Stands 6-foot-7, 208 pounds. Frame will continue to handle more strength. Athletic delivery. Good tempo and rhythm. Long arm action. Plunge out of the glove. Level and on-line, lands in-line. High-¾ slot. Good arm speed. Solid direction. Fastball up to 92, 2069rpm. Average ride and run from a different release point than typically seen. Punched 3 over 2 innings of work, mostly working off the fastball. Development of secondary stuff will make Samples a pro follow over the next 18-24 months.

Ethan Wisler, RHP, Wakefield HS, 2027

Athletic frame. Still youthful with lots of potential projection ahead. Good mover. Loose hips. Solid direction. Medium arm stroke. High-¾ slot. Solid arm speed. Punched 4 over his two innings. Created swing and miss in the zone on the fastball and breaking ball. Fastball ranged 86-89, peaking at 2449rpm and 20.8in of induced vertical action. Slider has late 10/4 tilt with depth getting under swings at 76-78, 1962rpm. Intriguing prospect that could see a big bump in his prospect status as he continues to mature into the frame.

Caleb Renn, LHP, Holly Springs HS, 2027

Average build. Strength in lower half. Stands 5-foot-11, 182 pounds. Excellent feel for pitching. Fastball to both sides. Breaking ball to both sides. Showed feel for adding and subtracting. Punched 3 over his 2 innings of work. Fastball up to 84. Heavy run peaking at 22in of horizontal action. Change-up mimics the fastball release and tunnel at 69-71, 1775rpm. Up to 19.3in of horizontal run on the change. Manipulated the breaking ball. At times, heavy action across the zone. Instant impact at the next level as he should be able to attack hitters in a variety of ways.

Beckett Denton, RHP, Weddington HS, 2027

Looks the part with broad shoulders and an athletic nature at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds. Solid mover. Stable head. Slight uphill leverage through the shoulders. Solid direction. Medium arm action. Over-the-top. Arm strength with solid arm speed. Fastball at 87-90, 2323rpm. Peaked his induced vertical break at 19.2in. Paired the fastball with a top to bottom breaking ball at 75-78, 2348rpm.
