There were twenty-three players from Virginia and DC that represented Team Virginia at the 2025 Prep Baseball Future Games. These are twenty-three of the best players in the state and we want to take some time to discuss how those players fared at the Future Games. We will separate them into a few categories, with added notes and video.

Catchers

Graydon Ambrose C / 1B / First Colonial High, VA / 2027

A premier backstop in the 2027 class. Offers a little bit of everything. Durable and strong frame, above average arm strength, clean exchanges and accurate arm, and physical offense. While he has long shown it to our staff, he put all of those things on full display at Future Games. Ambrose started his week with a 1.93 in game pop to erase a Maryland baserunner and then proceeded to hit multiple balls at 100+ mph. High end bat speed that was 86.7 mph max and averaged 79.9 mph in the workout and slightly above average hand speed. Ambrose has probably the best combination of tools behind the plate and in game offensive production with the chance to impact an offensive lineup at a high level. He is/will be a hot commodity and is big part of why this catching class in the state is the best group in the past 5-6 years.

Judge Dillow C / 3B / Abingdon High, VA / 2027

For me, Dillow was the best receiver on Team Virginia. Strong hands, worked well at the bottom of the zone, and handled every arm really well. The arm strength is average, but it is a quick and clean exchange in the middle. Dillow is really physical, but also a really good athlete for his frame. Ran a 6.80 60 and had a 30" vertical during the workout day, displaying his above average athletic traits. The swing is in and out of the zone quick and has some uphill path. Seems to be his best on elevated pitches that force him to flatten out a bit and stay in the zone a little longer. Had a double down the left field line in game one and that side of the field seems to be where most of the offensive success comes from.

Bryan Miller Jr C / OF / Woodgrove High, VA / 2027

Love watching this kid play. Quiet confidence and just has a calmness to his game. Lighter frame at 5-foot-9, 172-pounds with strength in his hands and actions. Some of the easiest BP that you will see. Left handed hitter with a simple and repeatable swing that works in game. High end bat to ball skills with a whippy barrel. The ball jumps off the bat and best way I can put it, it just looks different. Average runner that plays a touch quicker in game. Has enough athleticism and feel for the game to give some versatility between his catching duties and potential corner outfield. Above average arm strength and feet work well on throws and puts himself into a good throwing position.

Miller has some of the best bat to ball and in game impact in this class. Left handed hitting catcher that is a solid athlete and offers some versatility on the defensive side and present offensive ability.

Kalvin Murphy C / 3B / Indian river high school ches, VA / 2027

Murphy has been one of the hotter bats this spring and heading into the summer. Athletic defender with an above average run tool that turned out a 6.80 60 at the Future Games event. Compact frame, balanced operation at the plate, and medium length to the swing path. Has shown gap to gap doubles power with some barrel feel. There is a little more power to pull, but still more bat to ball/contact driven swing than power/run production bat. He is athletic enough to offer some potential versatility in a corner outfield spot, but has shown athleticism and solid arm strength behind the plate, exemplified by the runner he caught stealing on a clean exchange and on the bag throw versus PA.

Pitchers

Cole Cinnamond LHP / 1B / Great Bridge High, VA / 2027

Really not a lot to say that has not already been said by our staff. Elite arm talent with serious upside. Cinnamond is the #1 player in the 2027 class for good reason. While we have seen him up into the mid 90 range, he showed more control from a delivery and command standpoint during this outing sitting 89-92 and touching 93.3 mph with the fastball. There is some ride to the fastball and some serious run, getting up to 18" of run and averaging around 12". More gradual shape to what is labeled as slider, but leans more slurve, getting up to -9" IVB and up to 14.9" of HM. It can be a really tough look for hitters from both sides and not something a lot of guys want to climb in the box with.

From a two way standpoint, he competes in the box during his at bats and there is some obvious strength from the left side. He put together some deep, quality at bats versus some quality arms that resulted in walks or a hard hit ball in play. If we are talking high major schools, he is an arm, but can certainly be in a two way conversation for a mid-major, depending on what he is interested in doing long term.

This will more than likely be the highest profile commit from this team, or at least has the chance to be depending on what he wants to do long term.

Bryce Edick RHP / GRASSFIELD HIGH, VA / 2027

Edick is a physical specimen at 6-foot-4, 210-pounds. Sloped shoulders, strong back, and strong durable lower half. Longer arm swing that builds arm speed through release. The fastball typically sits in the 86-88 range and this outing was no different. Edick was up to 89.2 and stayed between 86.5 and 89 mph per Trackman. The physical right hander boasts one of my favorite breaking balls in this class. It is a firm slider at 80-82 mph that has late hard depth and a chance to be an above average pitch at the next level. It is mainly two pitches for Edick, but the slider is good enough that in high school, he does not really need a third. Will need to sure up the low 80's changeup to enhance his pitch arsenal and allow him to be in the conversation as a potential starter long term.

Palmer Gobble RHP / John Battle, VA / 2027

Body wise, there are some certain similarities with older brother Porter. Square shoulders, some lankiness to the frame, and some quirk to the delivery. It is a normal effort delivery, a longer arm action, and some serious ride to the upper 80's fastball. Gobble sat 87-89 T90 and carried the 7th highest IVB (24.5") with the third best average IVB (21.2"). It is a higher release at 6'4" and on the lower end of the extensions (5'). More 12/6 type of breaking ball that he labels as a knuckle-curve. Sits on the softer side in terms of velo (69-73mph) and an average feel for the zone with the pitch. Most of Gobbles success with the fastball should profile in the upper half of the zone and that should pair well with the bigger breaking ball that is more up and down. He worked a very quick seventh inning and then finished off the Virginia win with a strikeout to end it in the eighth.

Josiah Joyner RHP / SS / Lakeland High, VA / 2027

Throughout the spring, this was an arm that was towards the front of the line when it came to Future Games arms conversations. Long and lean 6-foot-5 frame and a decent mover on the mound with plenty of ceiling and room to grow. Joyner had a high usage rate in the spring and this summer the looks had been up and down. I am not sure he could have been better. Pounded the strike zone, so much that we ran him back out for a third inning of work because he was around sixteen to eighteen pitches in two innings. The long limbed right hander sat 85-87 T88 and worked both halves of the plate with the fastball. The slider was more gradual shape at 77-78 mph and showed 11/5 shape. I like the upside here with this arm and think he could add some strength and translate that into another velo jump.

Brady McCormack RHP / 1B / Monacan High, VA / 2027

An arm that has taken a massive leap in the state, and now in the country. Listed at 6-foot-2 and 185-pounds, he is every bit of his listed height. Longer limbs, moves well, and can really turn the corner on the arm swing with well above average arm speed. The fastball sat at 88-91 mph (T91.4) and showed average control. The breaking ball has been the winner when we have seen him, but it was not quite as sharp as we have seen it. While he still had feel for the zone with the upper 70's pitch, it tended to back up out of the hand. Mostly a two pitch guy that will show a third, but the two are good enough to offer some certain starter upside on the mound. The frame, delivery and movements, and the stuff certainly leave plenty to dream on here, hence the big time interest coming out of Future Games. Look for some serious movement when it comes to this next rankings update.

Alexander Quigley-Skillin RHP / 1B / Colonial Forge High, VA / 2027

Imposing 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame with broad shoulders and a strong physical makeup. Fairly normal effort to the delivery, medium length on the arm swing, and works from a higher three-quarter slot. The fastball has been heavy at times when we have seen him and creates some downhill plane from that slot. QS sat 85-87 mph with the fastball in this outing and touched 88 mph. It was three pitches during this outing, while the fastball and slider took to the forefront in terms of usage. Softer slider with 11/5 shape at 71-72 mph and has typically been in the 73-74 mph range with that pitch. The changeup is low 80's and is the third pitch. Quigley-Skillin struggled in the zone during this outing, but made a few pitches in some situations to limit damage. In our other looks, the control has not been as much of an issue. More middle/bulk reliever type that still has some room to add polish to secondary offerings.

Daniel Sanchez RHP / Briar Woods High, VA / 2027

Absolutely foolish upside with this 6-foot-6 right hander. Sanchez was playing effortless catch at 90-93 on day one and the ceiling here is pretty high. While there is certainly a gap between the floor and ceiling here that is dependent on some added pitchability and polish, this is an arm you cannot walk away from. Easy delivery, longer arm action, and really gets out front with his extension. Tied for third overall in the event with just over 7 feet of extension, had nearly 16" IVB, and was 2500~ RPM on the fastball. Sanchez maintained his extension on both the slider and changeup with the slider getting 6'8" of extension and the changeup getting the exact same extension as the fastball. He has extremely large hands and is able to kill spin on the 79-80 mph changeup.

This is an arm that as I stated above, has ridiculous upside. While he certainly has some polish to add, he has some unteachable traits and has a chance to throw really hard one day.

Camden Spangler 2B / RHP / Northside High, VA / 2027

Easy, athletic mover on the mound that is a strike throwing machine. Spangler worked in the 85-87 mph range and moved the ball to both halves of the plate. The slider sat in the 73-75 mph range with shorter 11/5 shape. He landed that pitch at more than a 60% clip and like the fastball, can fill the zone up with spin. The fastball and slider dominate the pitching profile, but he has shown the ability to throw an average changeup that sits in the upper 70's.

While he was an arm only during gameplay, Spangler turned out a 6.87 60 during the workout and was 91 mph from the outfield. He is a standout two way player for Northside and during the travel circuit that has shown solid bat to ball and is a very versatile defender. While he plays outfield during majority of the high school season, we have seen Spangler show the ability to defend in the infield at other points and offers some true defensive versatility long term.

Infielders

Jacob Babcock SS / RHP / Godwin High, VA / 2027

Like Rector, another big winner on the week. Not necessarily a high profile coming in, but certainly took a massive leap forward this week. Some strength in the frame and durable look to the lower half. Offense first profile that did not waste one second making a splash on the scene. Singled in his first AB then hit a laser line drive right at the pitcher in his second AB. On day two he followed up an HBP with a triple to the base of the center field fence that came off at 95 mph. There is some pre-pitch wiggle in the hands and absolutely rips the barrel through the zone with intent. He is aggressive in approach, has some barrel feel, and does not tend to get cheated in the swing. While it is a slightly below average run by the watch, he did produce a few 4.5~ turns out of the box and plays more average than below. The hands work in the infield and there is around average arm strength. Probably more offensive second baseman, left field, or potentially third base. Regardless, there are some solid defensive traits, but you are buying the offensive ability and upside.

Colt Bradshaw SS / 2B / Cape Henry Collegiate School, VA / 2027

Spark plug, high energy infielder that was a little dinged up this week. Was limited in some movements and things that he normally brings to the game, so not a lot to touch on in terms of his week. From the times we have seen Bradshaw this summer, he has brought exactly what he have expected of him. Energy giver, makes plays in the infield, and flashes occasional juice at the plate from the right side. Bradshaw has tallied 5~+ homeruns this summer and packs a punch from the compact frame. He is an above average runner that profiles more at second base with the upside of run production from the right side.

Jackson Bringger SS / 2B / St Johns College High School, VA / 2027

It seemed like every time there was a play to be made in the infield, Bringger was the one getting the ball, which is certainly not a bad thing. Played all three infield positions and seemed to get a ball every inning he was out there. Nothing flashy about the defense, but simply makes plays. Average arm strength, solid angles of approach, and gets himself into position to make plays. Accurate arm and works well around the bag on the pivot. At the plate it is a square stance, vertical bat, and is short to contact with a whippy barrel through the zone. Contact driven swing that has worked from pullside line to the opposite side gap, with more middle to pull. Line drives and has the footspeed and motor to stretch an extra bag when needed.

Probably more second base long term (depending on level), but is more than capable of playing short if called upon. Has a quiet and steady demeanor on the field and just seems to never get sped up.

Blake LaMattina SS / RHP / Cosby, VA / 2027

While he did not have much to show for it, the Richmond area infielder put together a few quality in game swings, like the one in the video below. Square stance, medium lift, and lands square. Quiet head and eyes, stays behind contact and hits against a firm front side. On the defensive side, he absolutely has more than enough arm to stay over there. Had a ball or two hit to him that had slower pace, or that he had to range for, and he more than made up for the pace of the play with his above average arm strength.

On the mound, this was maybe the best that I have seen him in a bit. Like Szefc, it is lower pulse and under control throughout. He was playing catch at 86-89 and got to that velo fairly effortlessly. It was an extremely quick inning of work and used three pitches in his short relief appearance.

For me, it is still position > arm for me and has the feel of athlete on the mound, but he certainly leaves enough intrigue with outings like that, to not throw it completely out the realm of possibilities.

George Minjack 3B / OF / St. Albans School, VA / 2027

An absolute hit machine. That is the type of week that Minjack had for Team Virginia. Went 4/5 in his first two games and had multiple hits at 100+ mph EV's. More pullside in his results and displayed really solid bat to ball skills at the plate. Slightly wider base, medium lift, and gets the foot down on time. Short and level path through the zone that produced better impact than I have seen from him in a year. He really put together a strong, strong week at the plate. Average run tool that is corner/corner profile.

Casey Rector SS / 2B / John S. Battle, VA / 2027

Talk about a "sleeper pick", or a guy that bursted onto the scene, it would probably be Rector. Another southwest Virginia native, the John Battle infielder had some very loud AB's and showed some serious impact at the plate. Had a monster double to break the game open early versus Pennsylvania and this double was off of one of the most talked about arms in the 2027 class. The next day, he went 398' and 96 mph EV out of center field for a three run homerun. Best part about his week is while he showed some serious impact, he also showed some adjustability in the swing and his best impact was to the middle and backside. Plays quicker in the infield than the 7.1 time and has plenty of arm to stay on the left side. Probably more 3B/2B/Corner OF profile and the offense continues to impress. Big winner for Team Virginia.

Sam Szefc RHP / SS / Blacksburg High, VA / 2027

Not sure there are many other guys that turned as many heads as this two-way talent. At the plate it is a wider base, simple and repeatable actions, level path, and works hard to stay inside and hit it where it is pitched. Had a couple of hits on the week, all to the middle and backside. Easy strider that, when he puts his mind to it, can find another gear and stretch an extra base. Tighter turns at first and showed an above average run tool in his first AB where he doubled to left field.

Has a low pulse, steady motor that suits him well on the mound. Sat 89-90 on the mound with two breaking balls that both ranged in the mid-upper 70's, both having quality shape and feel. He faced probably the best offensive team that we saw in Pennsylvania and handled himself extremely well. Moves the fastball around, throws three pitches for strikes, and challenges hitters with an aggressive, yet calculated approach.

This is one of the few players in the past few years that I have had a really tough time figuring out what he is long term, but to his credit this is not because he is just ok at both, he has a chance to be pretty good at both.

Ryan Watson 1B / RHP / Greenbrier Christian Academy , VA / 2027

Easily the most physical impact bat in this 2027 class. Can produce some absolutely foolish exit velocities, as well as high end hand and bat speed at the plate. His 107.3 mph EV ranked third among hitters at the event and even when he mishits baseballs, they seem to be 95+ mph. While he does not get to the homerun power as often you would maybe expect, he has shown better than average bat to ball skills for a hitter of his prototype (*power potential RHH first baseman that swings with serious intent*). Physically, he is a specimen. Proportional and functional strength that is very evident in the frame. He is an average runner for the position and profile (more 1B/DH for me). This is a player that is absolutely dialed in on his approach to getting better and you can tell by how we approaches the game. He wants to win and he appears to be entrenched in the process of doing everything he can to achieve that.

Outfielders

Noah Gray OF / 2B / Miller School of Albemarle, VA / 2027

Like Lee, this is one of the best bat to ball hitters in the state, no matter the class. 6.7-ish runner with the athleticism and arm strength to play all three in the outfield. Got tied up on a few balls in the outfield on initial route angles, but recovered well and saved some runs for Team Virginia. Well above average arm strength in the outfield that plays well in game, as displayed versus Team Canada. Gray threw an absolute laser from right field to home and threw out a runner tagging by about five feet. The impact has improved a touch, but can get in stretches where he chases it a little more and gets away from the line drives from line to line. A true 2027 age wise and should continue to improve his ability to naturally get to that impact as he matures and fills out. Has some hand-eye and bat to ball that is hard to teach and does not seem to be fazed by the level of the arm.

Christian Gomez OF / LHP / Battlefield, VA / 2027

Some of the best BP that I have seen in my 5+ years of watching players from VA/DC at Future Games. It is a tight turn at the plate and has some natural loft that he displayed more so in our second day of BP. He produced some towering shots from the pullside gap to the line that certainly turned some heads at how easy he was getting to the power. Barrel has shown some length out front and the ability to use the backside of the field. More line drive and contact on the backside and the power comes from middle to pull. Average arm strength and profiles more left/center in the outfield. Above average runner that closed really well on some balls in the gap. Potential run producer with power upside.

Evan Lee OF / LHP / Cave Spring, VA / 2027

Compact frame and more strength than the frame would suggest. At the plate there are some moving parts in the pre-pitch, but they quiet down and shows really solid balance and bat to ball skills. Some of the best contact rate in the VA/DC 2027 class. Contact driven, but can get to an occasional extra base hit with his combination of gap to gap ability and sneaky impact. 7.0-ish runner, but plays quicker in game with solid instincts and quality reads. Really like the way he plays the game. More corner outfield profile, but a solid defender with above average arm strength. Was the tone setter at the plate for this team and is a steadying, spark-plug type of presence in a lineup.
