Class of 2025 Rankings: Final Update

Prep Baseball Illinois Staff

The 2025 class has now graduated and this update will be the final one for the class. The 2025 class emerged as one of the deeper classes in recent memory with star power at the top along with a host of other players that could see their name get called this summer or in years to come. The list expanded from 300 to 315 for the final update.

At the top of the class now sits LHP Jack Bauer (Lincoln-Way East; Mississippi State). Bauer has long been towards the top of the class due to his undeniable arm talent that took a huge leap forward this spring. There was arguably not a bigger prep riser across the country than Bauer. He took the scouting community by storm with multiple outings early in the spring where he was routinely touching 100 mph with two above-average off-speed offerings. He then proceeded to touch 103 mph, verified by MLB scouts, which is the firmest pitch ever recorded by a high school prospect. Bauer has put his name firmly in discussion to be picked early in the draft.

OF Jaden Fauske (Nazareth, LSU), LHP Cameron Appenzeller (Glenwood, Tennessee), 1B/LHP Conor Essenburg (Lincoln-Way West; Kentucky) and RHP Brandon Shannon (McHenry; Louisville) round out the top five in the class and all have a chance to hear their name called in the upcoming draft. Fauske is one of the top left-handed bats in the country and many mock drafts have him going on Day 1 of the draft.

Quinn Schambow (Libertyville; Oklahoma State) and Enzo Infelise (Providence Catholic; Cincinnati) are the top two catchers in the state with Schambow taking home the 4A State Championship as well as Illinois Player of the Year. Infelise was hands down one of the tougher outs in the class throughout his high school career and he capped it off with a huge senior spring, earning First Team All-State after hitting .516 with 12 home runs and 48 RBI. He also barreled up 100 mph during the playoffs with ease.

3B CJ Deckinga (Minooka; Michigan State), MIF Ethan Moore (Oak Park-River Forest; Tennessee) and LHP Aidan Flinn (Marist) round out the final top-10. It would be no shock to see Deckinga or Moore’s name called in the draft this summer and Flinn is one name to keep an eye on for years to come. Flinn has one of the highest ceilings in the class and should emerge as a high-end draft prospect in a few years.

LHP Lucas Grant (Joliet Catholic; Purdue) is another talented left-hander who had a huge spring and shot up our board to No. 11. Grant routinely pumps strikes and was flat-out dominant for Joliet Catholic. Another First Team All-State selection, Grant struck out 116 in 66.2 IP, walked 13 and pitched to a 1.05 ERA. Don't be surprised if Grant makes an early impact at the next level.

RHP Ike Young (Monticello; Illinois) was yet another intriguing name for MLB scouts this spring, as well as our staff. The former shortstop emerged as one of the top right-handed arms in the class with a fastball that climbs up to 94 mph and his ever-evolving breaking ball continues to become more of a weapon. Like Flinn mentioned above, it could be easy to see Young turn into a high-level draft prospect in a few years, and would be no surprise to hear his name called this summer.

There are plenty of more talented names in the rankings that are bound to make big impacts at the next level and we will be tracking them for years to come.
