This summer, the best uncommitted Class of 2027 prospects will head to LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA for the premier Prep Baseball Report Future Games. For the first time ever, the state of California will be bringing two teams: Team NorCal and Team SoCal. For the next three weeks leading up to the event we will be previewing each player that will be putting their talents on display in front of a plethora of college coaches from across the entire country.

Mariano Gonzalez is a left-handed hurler from Vanden High School. The fifth ranked LHP in all of California is also ranked as the twenty-fifth best southpaw in the country.

The lefty also shows potential two-way promise, showing flashes as a potential threat at the plate, as well as a solid defensive presence in the outfield.

At the NorCal Preseason All-State event, Gonzalez was ranked as both the top prospect and top pitcher of the entire event.

Gonzalez lights up the radar gun with his 93 MPH fastball, while featuring a 76 MPH slider and a 83 MPH change-up.

During his sophomore season for the Vikings, Gonzalez fanned 73 batters in fourteen appearances. Additionally, Gonzalez held batters to a batting average of .224.

At the 2025 NorCal ProCase, Gonzalez impressed with his fastball. The heater clocked in at a max velocity of 93 MPH, the second fastest ball thrown on the day. Additionally, the pitch had the second highest average spin rate (2511 RPM) and the third best induced vertical break (15 inches).

Gonzalez’s change-up was also on display at the 2025 NorCal Procase. With an average spin rate of 2312 RPM, the pitch had the highest average spin rate for a change-up on the day.

With the high velocity fastball paired with the devastating changeup, Gonzalez will be a key pitcher to watch on this year’s inaugural NorCal squad at Future Games.

“The frame is solid at 6 '0" 185lbs, athletic body. Very impressed with the southpaw. The two-way potential is there, but I see Gonzalez developing into a stud on the bump. Expect to see a lot more of Mo on the summer circuit.”- Hank LoForte, Associate Director NorCal
