Director's List: 2025 Louisiana Summer Championships

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Our 2025 summer slate of showcase events ended back on July 1st with our Baton Rouge Summer ID, but that was not our last opportunity to get a look at some of the state's top prospects, as we held our Louisiana Summer Championships Tournament for the 17U and 15U divisions, this past weekend in Southwest Louisiana.  Below, we take a look at some of the prospects that caught our eye this past weekend.

Kaden Chavis CF / TEURLINGS CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL, LA / 2027

Chavis was the table-setter at the top of the Rebels lineup this past spring and he continued to take quality at-bat after quality at-bat for the Acadiana Cajuns this past weekend, as he finished the tournament hitting .579 with 7 runs scored and 6 stolen bases.  He's got a really simple set-up with good rhythm in his hands and he uses a toe-tap load & stride before delivering a flat and level path to contact and through extension.  Chavis hits the ball extremely well up the middle and to the opposite-field.  He also has a keen eye for the strike zone and rarely chases out of the zone.  On top of that, he's an excellent runner, as evidenced by his consistent 4.00-4.10 run times down the line.  Chavis profiles as your prototypical top of the order left-handed bat who is going to cover a lot of ground in centerfield.  He may be somewhat undersized, but he can impact the game in a variety of ways.

John David Alexander OF / RHP / Barbe, LA / 2026

Alexander had a successful junior spring season for the Bucs, after missing nearly all of the 2024 season, due to recovering from an injury.  He looked to be back at full force this past weekend for the Knights Knation 17U Nightshift group and looks primed to finish the summer on a high note.  The former Future Gamer and Texas A&M commit finished the weekend going 10-for-16 (.625) with a home run, two doubles, a triple, 8 runs batted in, and 11 runs scored with 3 stolen bases.  He showed the ability to hit the ball the other way and when he made opposing pitchers pay when he got challenged on the inner-half.  Alexander's arrow is definitely pointing up as we move into the last part of the summer circuit.

Maddox Domingue SS / Teurlings Catholic, LA / 2027

We first saw Domingue at the Louisiana Summer Championships tournament last summer and he performed well again for the Acadiana Cajuns this year.  The first thing that stood out to us was the physicality and strength that he's gained from a year ago, as he now stands in at 6-1, 205-pounds.  The Teurlings Catholic product flew all over the infield making plays at shorstop and look extremely comfortable when moving in and throwing on the run.  He also swung the bat well this weekend, as he finished 7-for-16 (.438) with a home run, 2 doubles, and 6 runs batted in.  There were some times that he chased pitches out of the zone, but that should improve with time.  Domingue showed some of the best raw talent and ability at the tournament and is a guy that we'll definitely be tracking closely the rest of this summer and into his junior season.

Hudson Browning C / East Ascension, LA / 2026

5-9, 200-pound compact and physical frame with a strong lower-half.  Browning had a fantastic junior season for the Spartans and hasn't slowed down this summer for the Knights Knation 17U Nightshift group.  The former Future Gamer and Northwestern State commit went 6-for-15 (.400) with a home run, double, triple, 3 runs batted in, and 7 runs scored on the weekend.  An aggressive hitter, Browning goes to the plate each at-bat looking to hunt pitches out over the plate that he can drive and he usually doesn't miss when he decides to pull the trigger.

Landon Brewer RHP / Minden, LA / 2026

6-2, 170-pound athletic frame with room to project for more strength in the future.  The Louisiana Tech commit got the start against the Knights Knation 17U group last weekend.  The results (3 IP, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) weren't what he probably hoped for, but there's no denying the arm talent and his future potential.  He's a silky smooth mover down the slope with a quick arm and a repeatable delivery.  Brewer's 88-92 mph fastball really jumped out of his hand with occasional arm-side run.  He paired that with a developing 77-80 mph slider and a 81-83 mph changeup that he had confidence to throw against both right-handed and left-handed hitters.  Brewer also just turned 17 years old, making him one of the youngest players in his class, which means that there's likely another jump or two in store for the Minden product.

Bankston Walters RHP / 1B / PRESBYTERIAN CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, MS / 2026

Physical and imposing 6-4, 230-pound frame.  You can not miss Walters when he steps on the baseball field.  The former Future Gamer and Southern Miss commit showed potential two-way upside this past weekend playing for the Knights Knation 17U Nightshift group.  He finished the weekend 2-for-9 (.222) with a home run, double, 4 runs batted in, and 4 runs scored.  That stat line is deceiving though because when you watched Walters this past weekend, you just had the feeling that he was going to do damage every time that he stepped up to the plate.  The home run that he hit was destroyed into a stiff wind at Barbe High on Saturday, which is not an easy feat to accomplish.  Walters got the start on the mound Sunday morning in the semifinals and was just brilliant.  He tossed a one-hit shutout over 4 innings with only 1 walk and 8 strikeouts, while primarily using his 86-90 mph fastball, which overpowered hitters.
