Team Illinois Game One Recap

Assistant Scouting Director, Illinois & Wisconsin

Gameplay officially kicked off last night against Team Indiana, and the Illinois squad delivered arguably the most dominant performance of recent memory with a 10-0 win.

The bats exploded right from the get-go, as INF/OF Andrew Talbert (Byron, 2027) sent a 93 mph fastball into left for a single in the first at-bat of the game to set the tone.

INF Jacsen Tucker (Oswego East, 2027) stole the show at the plate, homering twice to cap off a 2-for-2 day with four RBIs, three runs scored and a walk - with his first one coming in the top of the fourth to make it 7-0 at the time, and the second coming in the top of the seventh to make it 9-0.

C Tristan Steger (St. Laurence, 2027) was another key contributor at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, RBI and a run scored, as well as INF/OF Gavin Stanislawski (Brother Rice, 2027) - who finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

OF Tyler Gluting (Metea Valley, 2027) and CIF Brady Cunningham (Brother Rice, 2027) both chipped in with hits as well, with Gluting sending a double to his pull-side and Cunningham shooting a ball up the middle at 107 mph for a knock.

As impressive as the bats were, the arms were arguably just as good with a combined one-hit shutout. RHP Kaden Wasniewski (McHenry, 2027) started us off on the bump and was a showstopper - sitting 93-94 mph and topping at 95 with over 2,700 rpm and all sorts of life through the zone. He also was showing innate feel for both a slider and a changeup to fill out his advanced three-pitch mix. LINE: 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 4K.

Though it wasn’t easy to follow up that performance, LHP Chase Reinhart (Normal West, 2027) was up to the challenge and delivered - striking out five over his two hitless/scoreless frames, walking three. The fastball played up to 88 mph while also showing a slider at 69-70 mph.

RHP Mason Bruesch (Geneva, 2027) was next in line, and he allowed just one hit over his two innings of work, striking out three against no walks. The right-hander is extremely deceptive from a low slot, working his fastball up to 87 mph while sitting in the mid-80s with a short, low-70s slider and changeup to pair.

The final arm for the Illinois squad was LHP Hayden Adamowicz (Schaumburg, 2027), and he closed things out with two shutout innings with no hits allowed, four strikeouts and one walk. The big southpaw worked his fastball in the 85-86 mph range, also showing feel for both his curveball and changeup.
