MISSISSIPPI QUICK HITS: POSITION PLAYERS

Landon Swinney OF / SS / Tupelo, MS / 2027Swinney had a standout week in Atlanta and boosted his stock heading into August when the 2027 class can begin communicating with Division 1 coaches. The speedy (6.57 60) 5-10, 190 pound outfielder from Tupelo collected 6 hits in 7 at bats during gameplay as Team Mississippi defeated Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Swinney had 2 hits in each contest including 2 doubles and 4 runs batted in, which should have put him in the running for MVP of the event.

Fischer Howell 3B / RHP / Petal, MS / 2027Petal has another bonafide star on their roster in Howell and he’s backing up the hype surrounding him. The 6-3, 190 pounder may be the 2027 class's best switch hitting prospect and looks very similar on both sides with middle of the order, run producing ability. He also plays a very advanced third base with a strong, accurate arm along with a still maturing body. Howell made a big jump in the rankings over the past several months and could see quite a bit of action this Friday.

Jones Roberson 1B / 3B / Washington, MS / 2027Roberson has a big bat and we’ve seen glimpses at our in-state events of the type of damage he can do when he connects. This week in Atlanta, Jones connected often and did as much damage as anyone at the Future Games. Overall the slugger from Washington School put up MVP numbers going 4 for 7 in 3 games with 2 home runs (one tape measure), a double, and 8 runs batted in. The 5-10, 210 pound corner infielder played consistent defense as well and no doubt was added to many contact lists heading into next month.

Trent Buckley RHP / 1B / Columbia Academy, MS / 2027Mississippi’s #1 ranked 2027 was as advertised as he showcased his array of tools all over the diamond. The 6-3, 210 pounder ran a 6.65 60 during the workout while having a solid batting practice round, and firing 92 mph bullets to home plate during the defensive evaluations. In game action on Thursday, the Columbia Academy standout sent one deep over the right center wall for a homer. He later stepped on the mound and showed why he is a big time dual role prospect with fastballs up to 91 mph and a 12/6 curveball with lots of swing and miss action.

Brannan Overstreet SS / 3B / Magnolia Heights, MS / 2027Overstreet is one of several dual prospects on the Mississippi roster that could blossom one way or the other. He moves really well on the diamond for a larger framed (6-3, 208 pounds) infielder. The Magnolia Heights product may get pushed to third base at the next level but he handles the shortstop position with ease. We still feel Overstreet has another jump coming physically that will take his game to another level, which could prove to be scary for future opponents.

Sawyer Pettit C / 2B / Tri-county Academy, MS / 2027Pettit has been to multiple in-state events so we have had the pleasure of watching his development over the past several years. It was evident to us he would be in Atlanta as he just continued to progress in several areas but most notably at the plate where he has turned into one of the top left handed hitters in the 2027 class. The 6-3, 180 pounder still has plenty of body maturity ahead of him which could turn his gap doubles into home runs. Pettit, a Tri-County Academy product, can play multiple positions on the field which will make getting his bat into the lineup easy.

Wyatt McDaniels C / OF / Mooreville, MS / 2027McDaniels is a 2 time Junior Future so we have watched him develop like a few of the others. One thing is certain, he’s a very strong young man and that strength carries over to his tool set. The standout from Mooreville was tied for tops at the Future Games with a 109 mph exit velocity during the workout portion. His tools don’t stop there as he also registered a 1.86 pop time using an 83 mph from behind the plate, along with running a 6.79 60. During gameplay McDaniels hopped on the mound and threw a scoreless inning, with 3 strikeouts, using a fastball up to 87 mph and very good curveball with 12/6 shape.

Mason Ballard C / 3B / Tupelo, MS / 2027Another former Junior Future Games participant that finds himself in Atlanta, and yet another dual role prospect on the Team Mississippi roster. Ballard showed off his ability behind the plate this week which could be the position he draws the most next level interest, though he can play a solid third base and pitch as well. The 5-9, 185 pound Tupelo product used a 82 mph catcher velo to turn in a 1.87 pop time on Wednesday. Ballard tossed a scoreless inning vs. Arkansas during game play with a fastball up to 87 mph and good feel for his secondary arsenal that included a curveball and changeup.

Deuce Jenkins 1B / OF / Jackson Academy, MS / 2027One of the prettiest left handed strokes we’ve seen and it's got some thunder in it. The 6-0, 215 pound outfielder from Jackson Academy found some barrels this week in both game action and in the workout portion of the event on Wednesday. With exit velocities regularly reading around 100 mph Jenkins is a scary hitter when he steps in the box. Another former Junior Future Gamer, he also runs well (6.70) and registered throws up to 88 mph from the outfield during his defensive evaluations.

Sullivan Reed 3B / 1B / Lamar, MS / 2027Reed had an impressive offensive summer before heading to the Future Games and did not disappoint once he arrived. The 6-0, 215 pound infielder from Lamar School is widely known for his power and he let everyone know why during both his batting practice round and in game play. Reed had multiple readings over 100 mph (T-107) during batting practice and ended with a 98 mph AVERAGE exit velo during his round. He also found multiple barrels during the three games as well as playing solid defense at the corners.

Keviyun McQueen SS / OF / Brandon High School, MS / 2027McQueen brings a lot of energy with him and his teammates thrive off of it. The 5-10, 175 pound infielder from Brandon is already one of the top players in his class though we feel he may have another level he will get to with his game. He has a lean, athletic frame that can carry more mass which could provide another jump in his already impressive tool set that includes 100 mph exit velocities, a 6.7 60, and 80 mph velocity readings on the infield. McQueen jumped on a pitch in game play for a high, lofty home run to left field and narrowly missed another.

KJ Roberts 2B / OF / Oak Grove, MS / 2027Roberts is the type of player that doesn’t always stand out if you see him once or twice. He doesn’t have a large frame at 5-9, 170 pounds, but if you watch him enough you will see just how big he is. The Oak Grove product uses a line drive approach at the plate and sends lasers to all fields with exit velocities into the high 90’s. He runs well (6.60 60) and just may have the best hands in the class at his primary position, second base. He may wind up being a steal for someone this fall.

Crews Albritton OF / LHP / Tri-County Academy, MS / 2027One thing is for certain, being a Junior Future participant gets your foot in the door to be a Future Gamer as Albritton is one of the 7 former JFG players on the Mississippi roster. The 6-2, 205 pounder is known for his present and future power potential and he did nothing to change anyone’s mind about that, but he may have on the mound. Versus Arkansas in game action, the Tri-County Academy standout worked a scoreless inning using a running fastball that sat 87-88 mph and developing command to his breaking ball.

Drew Davis RHP / SS / Sumrall High School, MS / 2027Davis came into the event as one of the roster’s more polished pitchers having already amassed 30 wins on the mound at Sumrall which is amazing. The 5-10, 170 pounder is equally impressive when roaming the infield on defense and when he steps in the box. Davis had an abbreviated outing due to an umpire's call at second base as he only threw 7 pitches in his putting versus Arkansas, but it's easy to see he’s very talented. The righty works his fastball up to 91 mph while using a 12/6 curveball with 2850 spin and swing and miss action. He also homered in the game to show recruiters just what he could bring with him to campus.
