This summer, the best uncommitted Class of 2027 prospects will head to LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA for the premier Prep Baseball Report Future Games. For the first time ever, the state of California will be bringing two teams: Team NorCal and Team SoCal. For the next three weeks leading up to the event we will be previewing each player that will be putting their talents on display in front of a plethora of college coaches from across the entire country.

Standing 6-foot-0, Chase Johnson is a right-handed throwing, left-handed hitting 1B/OF from Redwood High School. Johnson is ranked as the fifth best first-baseman in the state.

In his sophomore season, Johnson hit to the tune of a .375 OBP and 12 RBIs. The lefty also showed off his power throughout the season, tallying six extra base hits, one of them coming via the long ball.

In the field, Johnson flashed the glove with a .926 fielding percentage on 68 total chances, while also tallying five assists.

At the Future Games Tryout in Sacramento, Johnson showed off his smooth and powerful lefty swing. Johnson had a max exit velocity of 96.7 MPH and an 80% hard hit rate.

Johnson also showed off his arm, registering an 81 MPH outfield velocity on the radar gun.

Johnson’s ability to hit for power and play sound defensively makes him a fun player to watch when he steps on the field at LakePoint.

“Chase is an athletic 1B from Redwood School, he’s also been seen in the outfield and on the mound too. Johnson has a lot of flexibility on where to put him on the field, he isn’t just a 1st baseman. The biggest plus about Johnson is his left handed swing, it’s short to the ball and does a really good job of staying inside the baseball. During the BP portion of his workout, Johnson wore out the gaps and even showed some pull side pop. Johnson plays summer ball for Alpha so he’s had a very competitive schedule this summer on the circuit. I’m excited to see how much he’s improved since I’ve seen him at the FG Tryouts in late May.   “- Hank LoForte, Associate Director NorCal
