Emerson, Ga. - Today marked the opening of the best uncommitted Class of 2026 event with prospects arriving to LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA for the premier Prep Baseball Senior Future Games. California teamed up with the states of Nevada, Oregon and Washington to form Team West Coast. The day consisted of a showcase workout and one game for the group of 14 players representing the state of California.
In their opening game of the Senior Future Games Team West Coast matched up with the squad from Team New England. The West Coast collection of players jumped out to an early lead with one run in the first inning before New England tied it up with a run of their own in the second, but the West Coast bats exploded from there on out with three runs in the second, two runs in the third, three runs in the four and fifth innings before being held scoreless in the sixth then finished out the scoring with one run in the seventh inning to close out a 14-3 win in their opening game.
From the California representatives on the squad providing an impressive showing offensively highlighted by a two hit, two RBI and one run scored performance out of the bat of Colton Booterbaugh. Mason Crang tripled in the first inning and then came around to score on a wild pitch before drawing pair of walks in his next two plate appearances. Jetner Welch drew a pair of walks in his first two plate appearances including scoring a run and then in his third trip the LH htting OF laced a drive in the opposite field gap for a ground rule double the drove in one run. Drew Hamburger put up a trio of strong at bats including a 2K RBI single to RF, a hit by pitch and drew a walk to reach base all three times he came to the plate. Michael Nonis strung together one of the best at bats of the night when he worked a 13 pitch walk and was hit by a pitch while throwing out a pair of runners from behind the dish. Connor Clayton picked up a pair of walks hitting out of the lead off spot each working into a full count before drawing the walk and Justin Lopez drilled a 95+ MPH line drive at the rightfielder and drew a walk in two of his plate appearances.
On the mound a trio of California arms took the hill with outstanding performances fronted by Isaiah Tillman starting the game with four Ks in two innings of work showcasing a four-pitch mix with feel to throw all for strikes. His FB worked up to 88 MPH while inducing several swings and misses and backed it up with a 72-75 MPH CB with sharp bite downward, a shorter SLD at 74-76 MPH and an intriguing 78-83 MPH CHG with deception over his outing. Next up was 6'8 Owen Shannon of Mater Dei who showed off an impressive two pitch mix that reached 88 MPH on the FB with 2600+ RPMs of spin and power through the zone while backing it up with a 81-82 MPH SLD that reached above 3000+ RPMs and settled in at 2900+ RPMs. He worked a sound two innings with one K and induced consistent ground ball contact from hitters. The final California arm was Riley Moran whose drop and drive delivery and lower slot release height was able to pick up swing and miss on his FB at 85-88 MPH up in the zone and backed it up by throwing a sweepier softer SLD at 73-75 MPH that picked up uncomfortable swings with its deception and multiple swing and miss on the pitch that helped the Norco righthander strike out three in two innings of work.
Team West Coast will finish up the Senior Future Games slate with two more games on Wednesday 7/23/25.
