This summer, the best uncommitted Class of 2027 prospects will head to LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA for the premier Prep Baseball Report Future Games. For the first time ever, the state of California will be bringing two teams: Team NorCal and Team SoCal. For the next three weeks leading up to the event we will be previewing each player that will be putting their talents on display in front of a plethora of college coaches from across the entire country.

Stevie Wellens is a right-handed shortstop and second baseman from Liberty High School. Wellens, standing 5-foot-7, is ranked as the best thirty-second best shortstop in the state.

At the Future Games tryout in Sacramento, all of Wellens’ talents were on full display.

Wellens' 6.83 sixty yard dash was the fifth fastest on the day.

The smooth lefty swing generated a 100 MPH max exit velocity and a 351’ max batted distance.

Additionally, Wellens showed promise defensively with his impressive athleticism and fast hands.

This season for the Lions, Mason was exceptional both offensively and defensively.

In his sophomore season, Wellens hit .304 with 24 base knocks.

In the field, Wellens showed off a glove with a .920 fielding percentage on 75 total chances.

With his athletic build, defensive abilities, and powerful righty swing, Wellens has the potential to make some noise at LakePoint later this month.

“Stevie Wellens, a 2027 MIF from Liberty, showcased an electrifying skill set at the Prep Baseball Future Games Tryout in NorCal this past weekend. At 5-foot-7 and 165 pounds, his compact, athletic frame delivers explosive performance with room for added strength. In the infield, Wellens recorded a top velocity of 82 mph, displaying a quick, accurate arm and fluid glove work that suits the demands of shortstop or second base. His ability to cover ground laterally stood out, with quick first steps and excellent range making him a dynamic defender. At the plate, he posted a max exit velocity of 100 mph (89.7 mph average) and a max batted distance of 351 feet, demonstrating plus bat speed and a powerful, line-drive swing. During gameplay, Wellens ripped a single to the gap, highlighting his ability to barrel pitches with authority and drive the ball to all fields. His 60-yard dash time of 6.83 seconds reflects elite speed, enhancing his defensive range and base-running impact. His strong wrists suggest potential for further power development. Defensively, his quickness and instincts make him a standout up the middle. Wellens’ combination of speed, defensive agility, and offensive pop positions him as a prospect in the 2027 class.”- Hank LoForte, Associate Director NorCal
