Team Indiana: Future Games Pitching Preview

Cooper Trinkle
Scouting Director

The Prep Baseball Future Games is quickly approaching and we are excited to announce the pitching staff & rotation that our staff has put together for this event. Read below for a short report on each prospect appearing on the bump for Indiana, in order of when they will be pitching.

Thursday Night vs. Illinois

Cole Cheatham RHP / Union County, IN / 2027

+ The top-ranked arm on our board, Cheatham should start the weekend off with a 'bang' versus Illinois. Up to 95 this summer while sitting in the low-90s, Cheatham uncoils from a big inward turn with intent to embarrass with his powerful arsenal. The physically imposing, 6-foot-3, 225 pounder also features a top-down curveball that plays with bite that will range from 78-81 and tunnels well with his riding heater. This will likely be one of the louder looks of the event and there will surely be a crowd to quickly gather once the first fastball leaves his hand.

Davis Moore LHP / Zionsville, IN / 2027

+ Our top-ranked left-hander will follow Cheatham and looks to continue to grab helium as he has all summer. He posted a strong back-half of the spring before seeing gradual velo ticks throughout the summer. Our staff has been following Davis closely, and we saw his best bullet, up to 90 mph, at the MPL this June. Moore will sit in the 84-87 range with a running heater that comes from his lower 3/4 slot, while mixing with a low-70s slurvey breaking ball and upper-70s change that he has feel for. The pitch-ability is strong here with real starters' upside and gains to come in the athletic 6-foot-1, 165 pound frame.

Charlie Herr RHP / Homestead Senior High School, IN / 2027

+ Herr is an upside play that broke out at the All-State in March and continued to do so this summer. He showed well in multiple summer looks with a fastball that has been up to 88. He is 6-foot-4 and 180 pounds with a super easy/athletic delivery and a clean arm that works to a wide, low 3/4 slot. The fastball works mostly 84-86 and plays with run, and he pairs it with a well-spun sweeper in the low-70s. There is feel for a 72-75 change to project starters' upside in the future. The present stuff is solid here, but the upside is immense.

Lucas Collins RHP / Garrett High School, IN / 2027

+ Collins will serve in a closers' role with a unique fastball that will create an uncomfortable look. There is some projection to the 6-foot-1, 195 pound frame with athleticism to pair, but the fastball is why Collins earned the invitation. Into the low-90s this summer, Collins attacks from a 4.6' release height with a low-slot fastball that plays with 18" of ASR on average and sits 87-89 routinely. The slot creates deception and the short-stride nature of the delivery gives the firm fastball space to play with devastating arm-side movement. He will get to his glove-side with a mid-70s slider that shows flashes of above average.

Friday Night vs Wisconsin

Lucas Haas RHP / Valparaiso High School, IN / 2027

+ Haas will toe the rubber to start on Night 2 and will offer one of the silkiest looks in the class to pair with immense projection in his 6-foot-3 frame. The arm works to a full-circle and pairs with a well-sequenced delivery to produce a fastball that has been up to 89 this summer. There is a mid-70s breaking ball and change in his arsenal, as well. Haas is one of the highest-ceiling arms on the staff with a chance to make a serious name for himself in Atlanta.

Chase Gothrup RHP / William Henry Harrison High School, IN / 2027

+ Gothrup is one of the more-reliable strike-throwers' on the staff, evident through a handful of looks this summer and spring. The 6-foot-1, 170 pounder boasts a low-effort, balanced delivery with a clean arm to pair. His fastball touched 89 this summer while sitting mostly 85-87, but the 2700+ breaking ball he spins at 74-76 is the best offering he has. It spins with true two-plane curveball shape with sharp break, and he does have feel for a 75-78 changeup. There is still projection to the athletic frame but the floor is one of the highest on the staff considering the strike-throwing nature of three above average pitches and clean/athletic look.

Logan Robe RHP / Westfield, IN / 2027

+ Robe is a strong-armed, 6-foot-2, 215 pound RHP with a chance to light it up in Atlanta. There is real strength in the short arm stroke and he's reached 92 in front of our staff in 2025. He'll likely pitch in the 88-91 range and pair a short, late-breaking, 77-79 SL off of it. The SL spins well and flashes out-pitch upside, and there is a low-80s change in the bag.

Aden Baggett LHP / 1B / OF North High School, IN / 2027

+ Baggett is our lone true two-way with established abilities on both sides of the ball. The 6-foot-2, 185 pound southpaw has been up to 88, and will pitch mostly in the mid-80s. There is deception to the cross-stride delivery that helps him hide the ball before he slings to a 3/4 slot. He spins two breaking balls, a low-70s SL, and upper-60s CB, with feel to land. He also has an above average fourth pitch in a 70-72 splitter that dives late. He shows very solid control and is coming off a 4-0 spring for 4A State Runner Ups (Evansville North) also leading that team in batting average.

Camden Moore 3B / RHP Zionsville, IN / 2027

+ Moore is one of our highest ceiling bats for this group, but he'll take a short break from hitting in the middle of the order to show off some arm talent on the bump. There is real arm talent here, up to 88 on the bump and across the infield, to pair with a premier 6-foot-5, 200 pound frame. While he has very little mound time, he can shape a breaking ball, and has a chance to run it 90+ on Night 2. The delivery is still developing, but there is real intrigue here and a chance Moore develops into one of the harder throwers in the class when its all said and done if things click.

Grady Grant SS / Center Grove, IN / 2027

+ Grant will star mostly in the middle of the infield, one of my favorite shortstops in the class and the best defender in my opinion at that. He will at least get a short stint on the bump, where the 6-foot right-hander with an ever-developing frame will likely pitch in the mid-80s with a chance to tick even higher at this event, and he'll show one of the better breaking balls in this group. While he is further ahead as a position player to this point, there is a chance this gets loud in a hurry and the breaking ball and command are already very advanced to allow for true two-way potential.

Saturday (12:00 PM) vs Missouri

Sam Tokar RHP / Yorktown High School, IN / 2027

+ Tokar is an explosive athlete that has really come on strong in his sophomore season. He showed several traits that made him a priority spring follow at the All-State in March, before plenty of positive looks between now and then. The in-line, downhill nature of the delivery makes it one of my favorite in the class and there is late life to a heater that we've seen in the 86-89 range routinely. There is a short, firm, bullet-style slider thrown in the low-80s with an occasional above average change thrown as well. The arm action is a safe one to bet on and begins a long list of upside traits: a 6-foot-3, 190 pound young-for-class athlete that also stars on the gridiron as a QB.

Gavin Markus RHP / Greenfield-Central High School, IN / 2027

+ Markus is a polished strike-thrower that has been one of our favorite arms in the class since the early stages of identification. He is a multi-sport, young for class athlete that stands at 6-foot-3, 180 pounds. Markus routinely sits in the mid-80s (T 87) and carries heaters with 20" of vert at times. He spins a sharp breaking breaking ball that he can manipulate, and it'll range in the mid-70s, plus-or-minus a tick each way. There is changeup feel and starter vibes that go with the competitive nature and pitch-ability Markus brings presently, with velocity gains before he makes it to campus feeling safe.

Riley Ackerman LHP / Crown Point, IN / 2027

+ Ackerman is a strike-throwing southpaw that we are high on, with several traits to like. It is a methodical, balanced mover in the delivery with a short, slingy arm that gets to a low/mid 3/4 slot. His best present offering is his 2500+, mid-70s SL that plays with sharp sweep, and he shows feel for it. He keeps hitters honest with a low-to-mid 80s (T 87) heater and he fades a change well at 73-75. He absolutely floods the zone and there is a real chance his 6-foot-2, 175 pound frame adds strength that equates to velocity in the future.

Carson Cauley RHP / Pendleton Heights High School, IN / 2027

+ Cauley will close with one of the highest ceiling looks of any arm on the staff. A good athlete for a 6-foot-6, 185 pounder, Cauley will likely pitch in the mid-80s (T 89), with a chance to reach even higher at this event. He attacks from a wide, 3/4 slot with above average control of an arsenal that also includes low-to-mid 70s spin that he can manipulate shape on to pair with a sinking fastball. He pitches with fairly low effort and as strength is added to the long-levered frame, the velocity has a chance to get loud in a hurry with the clean arm stroke he shows.
