Future Games Player Preview: Charlie Cummings

Charlie Cummings is a right-handed shortstop and second baseman from Sierra Canyon High School. Cummings, standing 6-foot-1, is ranked as the best fifty-fifth best shortstop in the state. 

At the Future Games tryout in Fullerton, all of Cummings’ talents were on full display, earning him the rank of fourth best overall prospect on the day.

Cummings’ 6.95 sixty yard dash was the sixth fastest on the day.

The strong righty swing generated a 90 MPH max exit velocity and a 353’ max batted distance.

Additionally, Cummings showed promise defensively with his impressive athleticism and fast hands. 

This season for the Trailblazers, Cummings showed great potential both offensively and defensively.

In his sophomore season, Cummings hit .333 with 15 base knocks.

In the field, Cummings showed off a glove with a .929 fielding percentage on 42 total chances.

With his strong righty swing, smooth defensive skills, and noteworthy speed, Cummings has the potential to make some noise at LakePoint later this month.

“Wiry, 6-0, 173-pound frame with good proportions and room to grow. Wide stance with a quick toe tap stride, balanced throughout. High hands, fast movements, some whip to the barrel, looks to lift. Bat speed at 68 mph with 13 G's of rotational acceleration. Posted a 90 mph max exit velocity, averaging 83.1 mph with a 353' max distance. Low ¾ slot with a compact, easy arm. Soft two-hand gather out front. 6.95 runner with 1.67 and 3.87 splits.”- California Scouting Staff
