West Suburban Summer ID: Takeaways

On July 1st, the Prep Baseball Illinois staff hosted the West Suburban Summer ID at Lee Pfund Stadium in Carol Stream, IL. 47 players participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Illinois staff.
Today, we will be looking at the prospects that stood out to our staff within this Quick Hits story.
QUICK HITS
LHP Dylan Jones (Lemont, 2028) is a long-levered 2028 lefty that shined during the event. The pitcher uses all of his lean 6-foot-2, 159-pound frame with room to add strength. Loose, long, quick arm action from a ¾ slot. Jones’ fastball sat 80-84 mph with an average induced vertical break of 12.7 inches (15.1 inches max). He showcased a slider that sat 70-74 mph with an average spin rate of 2201 RPM (2279 RPM max) while showing depth with an average horizontal movement of 5.9 inches (8.2 inches max). His changeup came in at 76-78 mph with quality sink, average horizontal movement -12.1 inches (-13.8 inches max). A 2028 arm to keep an eye on in the coming years.

LHP Will Renshaw (Barrington, 2026) impressed in Carol Stream for his first ever Prep Baseball event. 6-foot-3, 187-pound frame with room to add strength. The left-hander’s fastball sat 82-85 mph while being at the top of the leaderboard for max fastball velocity (85.6 mph). Renshaw also showed a curveball that sat 64-66 mph with a sharp 11/5 shape that had an average horizontal movement of 13.7 inches (14.9 inches max). His changeup sat 71-72 mph with heavy fade, average horizontal movement -15.1 inches.
RHP/INF Kaeson Ernst (Geneva, 2028) is a two-way talent with upside on both sides. A projectable, high-waisted 6-foot-4, 176-pound frame. At the plate, Ernst utilizes a simple swing that is long through the zone with a line-drive approach. Ernst had an average exit velocity of 88.1 mph (95.4 mph max) and a max distance of 312 feet. On the mound, Ernst utilizes his long levers for an easy delivery with a loose, uninterrupted arm action. His fastball sat 79-81 mph while topping out at 82 mph with a two-seam shape, having an average horizontal movement of 14.6 inches and an average induced vertical break of 10.4 inches. Ernst’s changeup shows heavy movement as it has an average horizontal movement of 21.2 inches while sitting 73-75 mph. He also showed a slider that sat 70-73 mph with an average horizontal movement of -5.2 inches and an average induced vertical break of -4.5 inches.
LHP/1B Miguel Ibarra Cantu (Glenbard North, 2027) shined in a two-way showing during the event. Strong 5-foot-11, 211-pound frame. Balls were jumping off his bat as he created length through the zone with a flat bat path while generating loft. Cantu was at the top of the leaderboard in average exit velocity (95.9 mph), max exit velocity (101.3), max distance (393 ft.), and hard hit percentage (77%). On the mound, the left-hander utilizes a powerful delivery with a drop/drive approach while working in-line. His fastball sat 80-81 mph with an average spin rate of 2010 RPM. Cantu’s slider sat 70-73 mph with an average spin rate of 2119 RPM. His splitter sat 69-71 mph while he killed spin with an average spin rate of 1122 RPM.
C Keenan Donaldson (New Trier, 2026) is a strong 5-foot-11, 182-pound catcher that impressed at the plate and behind it. The right-handed hitter had an average exit velocity of 90.8 mph (99 mph max) with an average distance of 248 ft. (366 ft. max). The catcher had an average hand speed of 22.5 mph (24.4 mph max) with an average bat speed of 75.8 mph (80.2 mph max). Donaldson utilizes his strong hands with his hard pull-side approach while generating bat speed. Defensively, the catcher had a pop time of 1.87-2.09 with a max catcher velocity of 79 mph.
INF ET Data (Lane Tech, 2027) impressed our staff during the event as he finished in the top two of several categories including max exit velocity (99.8 mph), average distance (248 ft.), and average bat speed (76.2 mph). Strong 6-foot, 206-pound frame. The infielder utilizes a loose swing that looks to elevate the ball while generating hard contact to his pull-side. In the field, Data showed a strong arm as he topped out at 84 mph while throwing across the diamond.
INF Josh Ziemer (Glenbard East, 2026) is a physical 5-foot-10, 202-pound first baseman that swings with intent. The ball jumps off his barrel while he looks to generate loft with hard contact middle to pull-side. Ziemer had an average exit velocity of 89.7 mph (97.5 mph max) and an average distance of 240 ft. (353 ft. max). He was top two in max hand speed (24.9 mph) and average hand speed (23.2 mph).

C Carter Landrus (Central Catholic, 2028) is a young bat that had a polished round of BP in front of our staff. 5-foot-10, 174-pound with room to add strength. The right-handed hitter utilizes a flat bat path that is long through the zone with a line drive approach to the whole field. Landrus had an average exit velocity of 87.6 mph (92.5 mph max). The catcher had an average hand speed of 21.3 mph (22.7 mph max) while having a max bat speed of 71.3 mph. Behind the plate, Landrus is an athletic mover with a whippy arm action that tops out at 75 mph.

INF/OF Ryley Orlanes (Naperville Central, 2027) is an athletic utility player that showed well in multiple facets of the showcase. 5-foot-8, 140-pound frame with room to add strength. Orlanes started off the event by being at the top of the leaderboard in 60-yd dash (6.68) and vertical jump (27.2 inches). The right-handed hitter swings with intent with some twitch while having a pull-side approach. Orlanes had an average hand speed of 20.3 mph (21.4 mph max). His athleticism oozed in the field as he topped out at 85 mph in the infield and outfield.

‘27 Ike Fogt is yet another talented catcher coming through New Trier. The 5-foot-10, 212-pound, right-handed hitter has strong hands and flashed bat strength. Defensively, he was arguably more impressive, working clean out of the crouch and routinely putting throws around the bag at 2.02-2.08. Follow 2027 catcher.

C Ike Fogt (New Trier, 2027) showed well at the West Suburban ID last Tuesday.

C Matthew Fletcher (Fremd, 2028), INF Tanner Fish (St. Charles East, 2029) and CIF Carssen Leming (Rockford Boylan, 2028) are all young prospects who warranted a follow with the bat. Fish peaked at 97 mph off the bat during BP which is well above-average for his age.
RHP Emmanuel Deoudes (IC Catholic, 2026) and RHP Josh Repmann (Neuqua Valley, 2027) are a couple athletic right-handers to know from the day.
Deoudes showcased a fastball up to 83 mph to pair with a slider and splitter he could flash in the zone.
Repmann, a 6-foot-3, 183-pound right-hander, showcased a loose delivery with more in the tank - running his fastball up to 81 mph with a changeup and slider to pair.
