This summer, the best uncommitted Class of 2027 prospects will head to LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA for the premier Prep Baseball Report Future Games. For the first time ever, the state of California will be bringing two teams: Team NorCal and Team SoCal. For the next three weeks leading up to the event we will be previewing each player that will be putting their talents on display in front of a plethora of college coaches from across the entire country.

Standing 6-foot-5, J. Beckett Berg is an RHP talent from Notre Dame High School. The fifteenth ranked player in all of California has shot up in ranking following an impressive sophomore season for the Knights.

In his arsenal, Berg boasts an 89 MPH fastball while featuring a pitch mix that includes a wipeout slider and a devastating curveball.

This season for Notre Dame, Berg fanned 28 batters across 34 innings, while only allowing 12 runs. Controlling batters is a strong point of Berg’s game, only allowing six free passes while facing 155 batters.

His best performance came on April 23rd against La Salle, in which he pitched a complete game shutout. In this performance, Berg struck out eight, allowing only three hits and walking no batters.

LakePoint will be a familiar place for Berg. Two summers ago, Berg represented California at the 2023 Junior Future Games. While there, Berg gave scouts an early glimpse of his potential, fanning two batters in a dominant scoreless inning.

At the Future Games Tryout in Los Angeles, Berg’s fastball possessed the highest velocity, fourth-highest average spin rate, and third-best horizontal movement. Additionally, his curveball had the highest spin rate, averaging a whopping 2584 RPM.

Berg is most definitely a twirler to watch for at LakePoint at the 2025 Future Games. His crafty mix, sharp control, and daunting frame will be a threat for batters as well as a treat for scouts and fans in attendance.

“Berg possesses the typical and true starter profile not only in size, spin-rate, and velocity but as a pitcher. At the 2023 Junior Future Games, Berg showed an advanced feel for his slider and fastball, showing the ability to locate for strikes and collect whiffs out of the zone. Since 2023, we have seen steady development as Berg has continued to grow into his now 6-foot-5 frame. In his first look at varsity time in 2025, Berg confirmed his upward trending profile. His 2.05 ERA with six walks over 34 in the Mission League shows the foundation for a big role over the next two years. At the Future Games Tryout at Mira Costa HS, Berg was coming off a small tweak in his back and even after not facing live hitters for a couple of weeks, dominated some of the top hitters at the event. As stated before, the whole profile is coming along with steady improvements as Berg has now added a quality changeup to his arsenal.” - Matt Monk, Manager Operations and Content
