Team Wisconsin Future Games: Game Recaps

GAME ONE

Team Wisconsin faced off against a strong Team Missouri squad to open gameplay for the Prep Baseball Future Games.

The bats for both teams came out swinging, as Team Wisconsin would put up three runs in the bottom of the first to tie the game at three. The first four hitters from the Badger State would all reach base safely, leadoff hitter OF Carter Fry (Wisconsin Lutheran, 2027) would reach on an infield single then advance to second as MIF Kyle Rogosienski (Muskego, 2027) would draw a walk.

OF Chace Staude (Kettle Moraine, 2027) found the barrel multiple times during the game including a RBI single through the infield, going the other way to score the first run of the game.

C/INF Grady Cheever (Germantown, 2027) would follow that up with a base hit of his own, driving in a run on a RBI single to left field.

The final run of the inning would come courtesy of a C/OF Jack Spielmann (Milton, 2027) sacrifice fly to left field.

RHP Jacob Coisman (Luxemburg-Casco, 2027) would toss the first two innings for Team Wisconsin. Showing upside and with a breaking ball that projects as a swing-and-miss pitch moving forward. Low effort and repeatable operation from the lean and wiry 6-foot-3 right-hander with a fastball that reaches 91 mph while flashing rise and run traits with more to come from a velocity standpoint. The breaking ball is firm with tight action and the ingredients to induce whiffs/chase as he continues to develop. Sky high ceiling from one of the top arms in the state’s incoming junior class.

After Team Missouri took the lead in the top half of the second, the first two batters would draw a walk before INF/RHP Aedan Waterstreet (Appleton North, 2027) would drive in the lead runner on an RBI double down the left field line.

Waterstreet came away a big winner from day one, reaching base safely in every plate appearance, going 1-for-1 with two walks and the aforementioned RBI double. Waterstreet also showed a four pitch mix on the mound from a low effort delivery throughout two complete innings.

LHP Mark Susa (Hudson, 2027) would pitch a quick fourth inning, the easy moving left-hander filled the zone with tempo using multiple pitches, inducing two swing and misses in the inning. The fastball sat in the low-80s and it’s easy to see more on the way from a quick armed lefty with plenty of room to add to a lean 6-foot-4, 180-pound frame.

LHP Drew Stettbacher (Horace Mann, 2027) was the final arm to pitch game one pitching through some weather while showing intrigue from a low 3/4 slot. Pitching at 83-86 with a sweeping breaking ball and a fading changeup while tossing a seven pitch second inning.

GAME TWO

Team Wisconsin would take game two 6-4 against Team Indiana 6-4, evening up the record at 1-1 on the week.

In the bottom of the first, C Logan Hagman (Hudson, 2027) one of the top players in the Midwest would make his way to second as he barreled an 88 mph fastball down the right field line for a double. His second extra base hit of the weekend showing easy power and bat strength to all fields.

LHP Cal Schneider (New Berlin Eisenhower, 2027) would toss the first two innings for Wisconsin pitching two scoreless innings allowing three runs while striking out four batters. Schneider ran his fastball up to 86 mph that plays up beyond the velo, flashing heavy sinking action. With feel for two advanced secondaries, an upper-60s sweeping slider and a low-70s fading changeup.

  

Team Wisconsin would take the lead in the bottom of the second scoring three runs as C/INF Grady Cheever (Germantown, 2027) drove in a run on a base hit to right field, C/OF Jack Spielmann (Milton, 2027) drove in a second run on a sacrifice fly to left field. The final run of the inning would score courtesy of a OF Ira Hilbelink (Cedar Grove-Belgium, 2027) base hit to center field.

OF Kingston Grisolono (Kewaskum, 2027) would find the barrel in the top of the third by doubling to right-center field on a two strike count.

RHP Ty Bumgardner (Notre Dame Academy, 2027) would be the second arm to throw for Team Wisconsin showing a mid-80s fastball, a firm slider at 76-78 with sweeping slider and flashed a firm and heavy fading changeup.

Team Wisconsin would tie the game up in the bottom of the fifth as Cheever would send a 90.8 mph fastball out over the right field wall for a solo home run evening the score at four apiece.

Team Wisconsin would take the lead in the top of the sixth as the first two batters would reach on walks before taking the lead on an error by the defense.

LHP Joey Shaw (Muskego, 2027) would take the ball for the fifth and sixth innings for Team Wisconsin tossing two scoreless innings striking out one, walking two and allowing a hit. Running his fastball up to 87 mph while sitting 84-86 mph throughout his outing while mixing in a firm slider with sharp two plane action while flashing a

Team Wisconsin would extend the lead in the bottom of the ninth as Hilbelink would ambush a first-pitch fastball over the left-center field wall for a no-doubt home run.

RHP Eli Dreier (Wisconsin Lutheran, 2027) would toss the final two scoreless innings striking out two batters and allowing two hits. Showing three pitches throughout the outing an upper-80s fastball with cut/ride traits on top of 6.5 feet of extension. Dreier would also show a mid-70s breaking ball with two-plane action that looks like a swing-and-miss pitch moving forward, while also flashing a upper-70s changeup.

Game Three

Team Wisconsin would round off the week by defeating Team Illinois 10-6 securing 2-1 record.

Team Wisconsin would take an early lead in the top of the first after OF Carter Fry (Wisconsin Lutheran, 2027) would turn on a mid-80s fastball for a two-run home run over the left field wall.

The bats would stay hot heading into the second inning as MIF Ryan Rose (West Bend West, 2027) picks up his first of three hits on the day, driving in a run on a single to right field. OF Kingston Grisolono (Kewaskum, 2027) would drive in another run on an RBI double to center field.

Right-hander Dylan Schreiber (Waukesha West, 2027) would toss the first two scoreless innings for Team Wisconsin working efficiently across both innings and filling the zone at a high rate with each pitch. 17 total strikes on 22 pitches, the fastball sat 86-88 T89 mph with heavy sinking action and more velo to dream on as he adds to his lean 6-foot-6 frame. Mixing in a slider and changeup in the zone for strikes, both offering upside as swing and miss offerings down the road.

Team Wisconsin would continue to add to the score in the top of the fourth, INF Aedan Waterstreet (Appleton North, 2027) found the barrel for his second double of the weekend going the other way to left field.

Fry would continue to swing it well at the plate finding a barrel for a double to left field to score Waterstreet, before being driven in himself on a Kyle Rogosienski (Muskego, 2027) triple to left field.

RHP Chase Wolter (Whitefish Bay, 2027) would toss the third and fourth innings for Team Wisconsin. Athlete with plenty of upside left to the frame standing at 6-foot-2 185-pounds. Wolter consistently beat hitters in the zone with the fastball, sitting 86-88 T89.2 mph with rise and run traits. Wolter mixed in a firm, sweeping breaking ball at 74-76 mph while showing a fading changeup.

OF Ira Hilbelink (Cedar Grove-Belgium, 2027) continued to find barrels picking up his second hit of the afternoon on a double to center field putting runners on second and third.

Hilbelink would score on a MIF Cooper Sievert (Wisconsin Lutheran, 2027) triple to center field, his second hit of the day.

LHP Mason Horn (Muskego, 2027) would strike out four batters across his two innings of work, allowing a run on three hits and a walk. Horn would compete in the zone with all of his pitches showing a lively fastball that reached 87 mph, the highest velocity our staff has seen it to date. While showing consistent feel for a mid-70s breaking ball and a fading changeup.

Hilbelink would the the final arm to throw for Team Wisconsin showing a fastball that reached 89.7 mph with life and a sweeping breaking ball in the low-70s.
