Future Games Player Preview: Ira Rootman

This summer, the best uncommitted Class of 2027 prospects will head to LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA for the premier Prep Baseball Report Future Games. For the first time ever, the state of California will be bringing two teams: Team NorCal and Team SoCal. For the next three weeks leading up to the event we will be previewing each player that will be putting their talents on display in front of a plethora of college coaches from across the entire country.

Standing 6-foot-2, Ira Rootman is a star outfielder from Harvard-Westlake High School. The eleventh ranked player in all of California is also ranked as the fifteenth best outfielder in the entire country.

Rootman impresses both in the batter’s box and on the base paths, having a 101.3 MPH exit velocity off the bat and running a 6.68 60-yd dash.

This season for Harvard-Westlake, Rootman hit .351 while swiping 13 bags. Additionally, Rootman showed some pop, hitting two home runs on the year.

One of his best performances came on April 1st against St. Francis, in which he went 3-5 at the plate, driving in two runners in the process.

LakePoint will be a familiar place for Rootman. Last summer, Rootman represented California at the 2024 Future Games. Only being a sophomore, Rootman gave a strong impression to scouts in attendance with his athleticism, consistency at the plate, and strong defensive presence.

At the Future Games Tryout in Los Angeles, Rootman had the second fastest 60-yd dash, fourth highest velocity, and the third fastest outfield velocity, clocking it at 91 MPH.

Rootman is a must watch talent at this year's Future Games in LakePoint. With a natural feel for the game, blistering speed, and a mature approach at the plate, Rootman will be sure to turn heads at LakePoint later this month.

"Rootman was a standout at the Future Games Tryout last year, earning a spot on the team going into his sophomore year, a year younger than the majority of the team. Last year, he showed an advanced feel for the barrel with a strong athletic profile.
