Emerson, Ga. - Today marked the opening day of game play at the best uncommitted class of 2027 event with prospects competing to LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA for the Prep Baseball Future Games. With the two squads representing the state of California squaring off against the teams of Texas (South and North).

On opening day the squad of Southern California played under the lights against the squad from North Texas. The game featured a back and forth nature over the course of the first five innings with Southern California plating two runs early then falling behind by a score of 3-2. Southern California would plate a run to tie the score at three before North Texas would explode offensively over the final three frames to complete a 11-3 takedown of the Southern California squad.

For Southern California their day was highlighted was fronted by an impressive two inning outing from J. Beckett Berg of Notre Dame High School who opened the day. Berg ran his fastball up to 93 MPH multipe times while living at 90-92 on the offering locating it to all four quadrants of the strike zone. He mixed in a sound 89 MPH cutter, but the offspeed repetoire was highlighted by his 82-83 MPH SLD which spun above 2500 RPMs and an intriguing CHG which he threw at 82-84 MPH with fade and depth. Berg faced the minimum six hitters while picking up one K and a plethora of groundballs.

Offensively, Elyjah Mason a LH hitting INF out of Huntington Beach High School fronted the offensive attack by posting a pair of opposite field doubles including one which short hopped the left field fence and scored two runs. As well, Mason made a pair of stellar defensive plays on the INF dirt to round out his impressive day. The Southern California offense picked up hits from Charlie Cummings of Sierra Canyon High School who drove in a run plus drew a walk, Kemuel Zhang of Canyon High School also plated a run with a hit while drawing a walk, Parker Leoff of Huntingon Beach added a 2K knock while drawing a base on balls and finally Joseph Flores Jr. had a two hit day for the Southern California.

The squad from Southern California will return to the field to square off with South Texas in an afternoon game on Friday before completing their time at LakePoint in an All-California matchup against the squad from Northern California.
