On the last day of the Future Games, Team Northern California took on Team Southern California.
Sebastian Schaffer was the starter for Team NorCal and had a very efficient two innings to get the game going for the last game of the set. Schaffer started out the game sitting between 84-86 mph, he attacked the zone and got ahead on the hitters. Even though he only gave up one run, which was a home run, he was still competing and throwing his secondaries for strikes. Schaffer threw a curveball that was between 71-72 mph, and had some bite to it. The delivery is clean and will only get better as he continues to work.
Cade McElmoyl was the next arm to go into the game for Team Norcal, his fastball was sitting between 85-88 mph and had a lot of late life (2400 rpm). McElmoyl gets down the mound really well and throws a hard curveball between 76-78 mph. He also flashed a change up that sat around 80-81 mph, working well off of his fastball. He’s going to be a high follower in the next couple years because he swings it with juice and he’s talented on the mound.
Bryce Farris was wildcard of the day turned a lot of heads when he walked onto the mound later in the game. Farris had been playing both infield and outfield all week, but when he threw his first fastball just shy under 90 mph, a bunch of scouts started to trickle over. The most impressive part of the outing was the buildup after every pitch, Ferris had the velocity ticking up every time, until he had finally topped out at 94 mph, sitting between 89-92 mph. Farris had an uptempo arm speed and it really jumped out of his hand. He finished with two strikeouts, and had one of those strikeouts mixed with his slider, which has some serious potential to be a deadly second pitch.
Mason Hackler had a clean inning of work, with a fastball between 82-85 mph, showing some late life. Hackler had both secondaries working with his curveball between 66-67 mph generating some swing a miss, the changeup was between 73-74 mph. Hackler has a lot to like about him, considering he is very strong and athletic.
