Prep Baseball Illinois Staff

On Friday, the Prep Baseball Illinois team released its First Team All-State for the 2025 season, and yesterday we released our Second Team All-State. Today, we’re announcing the recipients of our Third-Team All-State honors. Given the amount of talent residing in the state, the Third-Team roster is stacked with selections representing all corners of Illinois.

But for now, and without further ado, here is the roster for the 2025 Prep Baseball Illinois’ Third-Team All-State.

PITCHERS

Braydon McKendrick LHP / Brother Rice, IL / 2026

POS IP W/L H K BB ERA WHIP
LHP  58.2 11-1 31 62 33 1.79 1.091

From 5/14/25: “Uncommitted. Currently ranked No. 50 in the Illinois’ 2026 class. Has been one of the top arms for Brother Rice all spring, as well as one of the top arms in the Chicago Catholic League. Put together yet another strong performance, this time vs. a Top-5 team. Took a no hitter into the seventh inning. In total, went six-plus innings, one hit, one earned run, struck out four and walked three. Fastball was playing at 86-88 mph early, settled 83-85 by 5th. Was consistently mixing and manipulating two different breaking balls throughout; SL 75-76 mph, CB 70-72 mph. Highly competitive on the mound, showed athleticism bouncing off the mound to make plays and also picked off a runner with a quick, step off move. Uncommitted left-hander to know in the Illinois’ 2026 class.”

Brandon Menser RHP / Waltonville, IL / 2025

POS IP W/L H K BB ERA RA
RHP  53.1 8-2 22 109 14 0.92 8

From 4/14/25: “Cincinnati commit, currently ranked No. 12 in the state and No. 302 nationally. Strong 6-foot-3, 176-pound frame. Started on the mound and hit out of the four-hole. Menser was dominant on Monday as he cruised through six innings of work while picking up 12 strikeouts all while only allowing one runner on base. Operates from a tall/fall delivery with quick arm action from a ¾ slot. A heavy fastball sat 89-91 mph that was deadly in the top of the zone. Mixed in a curveball that sat 72-74 and has 11/5 shape with sharp, late action. Utilized the curveball as an out-pitch and was able to get plenty of swings and misses with it. Retained velo deep into pitch count.”

Owen Roberts RHP / Waubonsie Valley, IL / 2025

POS IP W/L H K BB ERA WHIP
RHP  72 8-2 31 96 16 0.49 0.653

From 5/23/25: “Indiana State commit, currently ranked the No. 51 player in the state’s senior class. Lean 6-foot, 180-pound frame with athleticism present. Roberts got the start on the mound for the Warriors, tossing a complete game with only one earned run allowed in a tight pitcher’s duel. Consistently was able to produce weak contact with his three pitch mix. The right-hander showed an athletic delivery down the mound, working from a compact, loose ¾ arm action. His fastball jumped out of the hand early, sitting 89-92 mph in the first inning and settling into 87-79 mph in the seventh. He also utilized a sharp 11/5 curveball at 80-82 mph that flashed out-pitch potential, and a changeup at 83-85 mph that played with arm-side sink. Final Line: 7.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K. A two-way player to follow at the collegiate level.”

Chase Reinhart LHP / Normal West, IL / 2027

POS IP W/L H K BB ERA WHIP
LHP  67.2 6-3 40 98 29 1.20 1.020

From 4/23/25: “Uncommitted, now ranked No. 11 in the state’s sophomore class. Stands in a 6-foot, 170-pound frame with seemingly more room for added strength. All we’ve continued to see out of the Normal West southpaw is a competitor with pitchability and the ability to throw strikes with his three-pitch arsenal. Tossed a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts in a top-15 ranked team in Normal Community. Worked out of the stretch and has repeatable actions with a quick arm path. Fastball sat 82-86 mph and topped out at 87 mph, maintained velocity throughout the game, recorded swing-and-miss on the pitch. Turned often and showed confidence in a curveball that sat in the upper-60s with sharp actions at times, threw it both when ahead and behind in the count, kept hitters off-balanced. Threw a change-up at 76 mph with some depth. The compete and strikes with multiple pitches has continued to elevate Reinhart as a must-know prospect in Illinois.”

Hunter Baugh SS / Edwardsville, IL / 2026

POS IP W/L H K BB ERA WHIP
RHP  45.1 7-0 32 38 12 0.15 0.970

From 5/22/25: “Uncommitted, currently ranked No. 32 in the state. Athletic 5-foot-9, 140-pound frame with room to add strength. Started on the mound and hit out of the lead-off position. On the mound, Baugh struck out four batters through five and two-thirds shutout innings, allowing five hits and one walk. The right-hander operates from a drop/drive approach with a high leg lift with tuck into his balance point. Clean, full arm action from a ¾ slot. Fastball sat 84-86 and topped out at 87 with straight actions. Mixed in a curveball that sat 71-73 with sharp actions. Produced swings and misses when located at the bottom of the zone. Also, threw a changeup that sat 77-79 with deception. At the plate, Baugh drew a walk to lead-off the first for the Tigers and would later come around to score.”

Jack Bauer LHP / Lincoln-Way East, IL / 2025

POS IP W/L H K BB ERA BAA
LHP  29.2 4-2 11 58 14 2.36 0.111

From 4/24/25: “Virginia commit. Currently ranked No. 3 in the state and No. 15 nationally. Trim 6-foot-4, 191-pound frame with room for added strength in the future. Got the ball to start for the Griffins and continued his impressive 2025 campaign. He has a loose and easy delivery down the mound, throwing from a clean ¾ slot. He attacked with his fastball that sat 97-99 mph (T100) early, before settling in at 95-96 mph, showing spin-feel (2500+ rpm). His go-to secondary continued to be a sharp slider that played in the 79-82 mph range with high-spin (2600+ rpm). Bauer would also mix in an 85-86 mph changeup, while showing a potential fourth offering; a curveball that he would toss in warmups. He would control the run-game well in this outing, varying moves and his looks at runners on base. It was a more extended look at Bauer than we have been accustomed to seeing this spring, which allowed him to show even more feel to pitch as well as his ability to make pitches in big spots with runners on and in scoring position. Perhaps the most impressive part of Bauer’s game is his ability to be around the zone and control all of his offerings, evidenced by not allowing a single walk through four innings while throwing 34 of his 46 pitches for strikes (74% strikes). Line: 4 IP, H, 0 BB, 0 R, 5 K. Bauer has certainly cemented himself as a must-know name with the MLB Draft coming up in July.”

Out of the leadoff spot Kamp had a big day at the plate (1-for-2, HR, 6 RBI, 2 BB, 2 R). Left-handed hitter has a balanced setup with a leg kick and a bat tilt. Direct to the ball with a flat bat path. In the second inning, opened the game with a grand slam off the scoreboard. He added two walks later in the game accounting for two more RBIs. Smooth operator at second base. Kamp got the start in the State Championship game. High leg kick with a drop/drive delivery. Long arm action working from a high ¾ slot. Worked with a five pitch mix. Fastball sat 84-86 mph with carry, also mixed in a slider and curveball, mostly relying on the curveball. Curveball sat 64-67 mph with some depth, and his slider sat 70-72 mph with some sweep. Batted second and started at shortstop for the Wildcats. Showed to have a reliable glove and noticeable athleticism defensively. Quick first step, plays through the ball, and showed to have an accurate arm that could play on the move. Impressed during in-and-out, confident glove with actions to pair and a strong and accurate arm across the diamond. Right-handed hitter, was all over the barrel, going 3-for-3 with a triple, double, three RBI and one run scored. Displayed easy power, sending a ball to the CF wall for a double and another to R/C field for a triple - quality bat-to-ball skills, worked short to the ball with a slightly uphill path.”

CATCHERS

POS AVE 2B 3B HR RBI BB OBP SLG OPS
C .451 10 2 6 36 34 .602 .802 1.404

From 5/29/25: “Uncommitted, currently ranked No. 24 in the state’s junior class. Strong 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame. Started behind the plate and batted in the three-hole in the 4A Deerfield Regional Semifinal. Showed quality actions on both sides of the ball for the Lions. The right-hander displayed strong hands at the plate that coiled into a flatter path. He showcased his quick bat speed in the third inning, turning on an 88 mph fastball to find a hard barrel on a sharply hit single through the infield. He also had a hard-hit flyout earlier in the game to right. Defensively, Thomsen proved to be a willing blocker, with a strong arm behind the dish (1.94 pop time in warmups). Another impressive showing from the still uncommitted catcher, who continues to put together a strong junior season.”

Zach Pomatto C / Joliet Catholic, IL / 2025

POS AVE 2B 3B HR RBI BB OBP SLG OPS

He swatted nine doubles, three triples, and one homer while drawing 29 walks and tallying 27 RBI. Pomatto helped provide one of the more potent batteries in the state throughout the spring, pairing with LHP Lucas Grant (2025; Purdue) - who earned First Team All-State honors.

FIRST BASEMAN

Trey Meyers 1B / New Trier, IL / 2025

POS AVE 2B 3B HR RBI R BB OBP SLG SB
1B .427 11 2 5 32 43 16 .534 .684 15

From 5/15/25: “Indiana commit, currently ranked No. 17 in the state’s senior class and No. 314 nationally. Strong-bodied 6-foot-6, 223-pound frame with above average agility (6.58 60) that translated to the outfield. Meyers got the start for New Trier in center field and batted leadoff. The right-handed hitter operated out of a narrow, slightly open setup, displaying rhythmic hands, working back in-line with a medium stride. Meyers showcased some loud power in Thursday’s game, going 1-for-2 with a pull-side three-run homer to deep left and a sac-fly to deep center to bring in four runs on the day. An overall impressive performance from the senior outfielder, who looks like a player who can make an impact early at the collegiate level.”

MIDDLE INFIELD

Drew Kleinheider SS / 2B / Father McGivney, IL / 2025

POS AVE 2B 3B HR RBI R BB OBP SLG SB
SS .413 9 3 3 48 51 22 .497 .603 49

From 6/02/25: “St. Louis committed. Currently ranked No. 47in the 2025 class. An advanced hitter at the plate that came up big for the Griffins, scoring the go-ahead and eventual winning run in the top of the 8th to secure the win for Father McGivney. Finished 2-for-3 on the day with a walk out of the three-hole. Kleinheider made a lot of quality contact throughout the day, hitting the ball hard in all of his at bats.”

Cole Lockwood SS / 2B / Libertyville, IL / 2025

POS AVE 2B 3B HR RBI R BB OBP SB
SS .420 9 2 3 16 52 15 .519 38

From 6/19/25: “Valparaiso commit, currently ranked No. 134 in the state. Lean, wiry 5-foot-10, 140-pound athletic frame with room to add strength. Started at short and hit out of the lead-off position. Lockwood was a table-setter on Saturday as he went 2-for-2 at the plate. The left-handed hitter operates from a balanced, upright stance with a small stride. Compact swing with a flat bat path and a pull-side approach. Connected on a triple to right field to lead-off the bottom of the first and would score two batters later. Laid down a sacrifice bunt in his second plate appearance to set-up to move a runner over to second, who would later score. In his final plate appearance, Lockwood would drive a ball into right field for a double to place two runners in scoring position, both would score two batters later.”

SS .406 11 2 3 36 27 18 .516 .655 12

From 6/7/25: “Illinois commit. Currently ranked No. 25 in the state. Lean 6-foot, 162-pound frame with present strength. Batted cleanup and played shortstop for the Caravan. A right-handed hitter, he was aggressive in hitters’ counts and produced loud contact off the bat multiple times. Defensively, he showed range and the ability to make any play on the infield with a reliable glove and strong arm to pair. He also showed easy foot speed when he stole a bag late in the game. A name to continue to watch in the state’s 2026 class.”

T.J. Jakubowski SS / 2B / Huntley, IL / 2025

POS AVE 2B 3B HR RBI R BB SB
SS .453 13 2 2 30 42 26 12

From 4/14/25: “Bradley commit. Currently ranked No. 65 in the state. Trim and athletic build at 6-foot-1, 160-pounds. Batted second and started at shortstop for the Red Raiders. The left-handed hitter put together quality at-bats against a tough opposing arm throughout the game; working a walk in his first at-bat, and then collecting a pair of singles in the next two at-bats. It’s an athletic swing with looseness in the hands that allows him to control the barrel. He is a reliable defender at shortstop as well, with the actions and ability to stick up the middle at the next level.”

THIRD BASEMAN

CJ Deckinga 3B / RHP / Minooka, IL / 2025

RHP  43 6-0 30 47 1.63 1.209

From 2/03/25: “Deckinga once again shined on a national stage, coming in as somewhat of a “sleeper” and exiting as one of its biggest winners - first at the Future Games and now again at the Super 60. The pure upside he possesses in his wide-shouldered, young looking 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame is enough to get scouts excited, but he further added to his stock with his strong all-around showing Sunday. He started things out with a 6.77 in the 60-yard dash, using little perceived effort and long strides. On top of that, he had the fourth highest peak jump height with a 31” vertical - also performing extremely well in the RSI jump test. His rounds of BP were some of the best on the day, working hard on the barrel with easy jump off the bat and big upside in the operation. Using a wood bat, he averaged 94.3 mph and reached up to 102.3 mph, sending his furthest ball 381’. The hand-speed (22.6 mph avg.) and bat-speed (76.1 mph avg.) also stood out among some of the best players in the country. Deckinga also shined on the other side of the ball, boasting confident hands with natural actions and the ability to move laterally with ease. Deckinga seemingly gets better with each look, and he is a must-follow name heading into this spring.”

OUTFIELD

From 3/07/25: “OF Josh Colaizzi (Bartlett, 2026) is yet another uncommitted prospect that showed loud tools across the board. He started things off by cruising to a 6.71 in the 60, easily translating his athleticism to the outfield with steady hands and fluid footwork, showing a quick release at times and an extremely strong arm T94 mph). At the plate, the right-handed hitter has a strong and compact swing with intent to elevate to his pull-side, averaging 91 mph for his EV with a 100 mph peak - also reaching up to 381’ for his max distance.”

Patrick Connors OF / Hinsdale Central, IL / 2026

From 4/23/25: “Uncommitted, in a three game stretch last week, Connors went 7-for-11 with a double, five runs, and six stolen bases. Also pitched three innings on the week, recording a one inning save against Willowbrook, allowing no hits and no runs and threw two innings in relief against York, allowing no runs, one hit, and striking out one.”

OF .440 11 1 35 33 19 1.100 15

From 4/12/25: “QB1 committed to Northwestern for football. 6-foot-2, 190-pound, athletic, wide-shouldered, high-waisted frame with more quality strength to come. Left/left center fielder hit in the three-hole. Would be a high-level prospect in the 2026 class if he chose the baseball route. Loose, fluid overall mover, long-strided and easy overall athlete. Has presence and is selectively aggressive in the box. Faced a left/left matchup until his final at-bat. Quality at-bats throughout the game and seemed to elevate his game in his final at-bat facing 88-90 mph fastball. Bat speed seemed to tick up and after fouling a fastball straight back, fought a single off into left field for a single. Finished 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored, a stolen base and a walk. Had him sub-4.40 down the line on a double down the right-field line; fluid runner, cuts the first base bag with ease on the turn. Defensively, runs plenty good enough to profile in center field. Handled everything his way with ease. Arm plays above-average and with a loose arm stroke. Accurate with carry. High-level 2026 prospect with a strong overall showing in our first look in the last couple of years.”

OF .509 13 10 3 47 51 10 .523 .7884 21

From 4/30/25: “Uncommitted, Verner had one of the most impressive weeks in the state. Verner had 13 hits in 18 at bats including a walk, three doubles, six triples, 12 RBIs, 14 runs, and four stolen bases. Also, made an appearance on the mound throwing one inning on Saturday, striking out two and allowing no runners.”

From 5/23/25: “McKendree commit, currently ranked No. 129 in the state. Features a slightly open setup with loose motions pre-swing, medium leg lift, quick, slightly uphill swing that stays through the zone. Deaver showed off an ability to hit the ball to all fields against some quality arms on the day. His second at-bat saw him line the ball to the right fielder off of Tyler Powell for double, which eventually would lead to him scoring later in the inning. His third at-bat saw him go the other way off of Tony Eberlin for his second double of the day. He ended the day 2-for-3 against Edwardsville with two doubles and a walk on the day out of the leadoff spot.”
