Bountiful, UT – On Tuesday, July 1, the Prep Baseball Utah staff hosted the 1st event of the Summer for the Salt Lake area, the Salt Lake City Summer ID, featuring 50 players ranging from the 2026-2029 classes. Held at the beautiful new all-turf complex at Bountiful HS, the SL Summer ID event included a full pro-style workout with a laser-timed 60 yard dash using VALD Performance, defensive evaluations, and batting practice tracked by TrackMan & BLAST. Pitchers were also evaluated with TrackMan, capturing all pitch data and metrics.
Below, we highlight several players who stood out to the Prep Baseball Utah staff with their performances in this edition of "Quick Hits."

Chase Ford RHP / SS / Orem, UT / 2027Chase has taken huge strides in the last 6 months, and put that work on display at the SL Summer ID last Tuesday. The smooth 6’4 SS looked the part of a high caliber prospect during the GB session. He was light on his feet with smooth hands that play out front, right into a strong throw up to 87 that he can still improve from a carry perspective. The tools are apparent and with a full year of Varsity already under his belt, the growth has been impressive. The swing is smooth featuring a leg kick timing cue, that he can repeat and drive balls back through the middle with. A simple swing, but love the consistency and ease with which he works. He was no different on the mound, also up to 87 with some upside as a two-way player. Keep an eye on Chase as he continues to grow into his body, one of the top players in his Class. |

Bryce Bagby 3B / RHP / West Field, UT / 2026Bryce was another welcomed “unknown” player to me prior to the day beginning. After posting one of the loudest BP rounds of the day, the unknown tag was no more. Producing deep flyballs to the pull-side w/ a few leaving the park, the EV leader (100.6) of the day showed an impressive round of swings. A left-handed swing that stays behind the ball, creating strong leverage out front with some backside power ability as well. Simple load and timing mechanism, I like the round and look forward to a big Senior year from Bryce. |

Boston Walkenhorst SS / RHP / Lone Peak, UT / 2027One of the more impressive overall athletes of the day, Boston looked the part on Tuesday. At 6’3’ 170lbs, you can see the apparent tools and easy athleticism that he plays with. The arm stands out amongst those tools, live and creating easy whip, he was up to 87 both on the infield and the mound. All around I like Boston’s workout and could see him playing any of the infield spots, or even some corner OF if needed. A two-way player seems appropriate here, the “stuff” on the bump was + and in the zone. Kills the spin down to 1400 on the CH, w/ the bottom falling out which will create swing and miss. The CB was 12-6 with late life (2400+ spin) repeatedly and presented a feel for all 3 pitches. A very intriguing prospect, Boston put on an impressive workout and should play a huge role for the Knights next Season. |

Gage Lintz SS / 2B / Copper Hills, UT / 2027The top 60 yd dash of the event belongs to this young man, Gage Lintz, who was another “unknown” player prior to the event. I was extremely impressed with this kid all day long. After posting the top 60 of the day at an impressive 6.73, my attention peaked. Arguably the smoothest SS of the day defensively, Gage really showed some confidence during the GB’s. Elite timing w/ his feet starting on the prep step, right into the initial read off the bat and into a clean field out front. Shows an understanding of how to truly play SS and uses his feet through the ball extremely well. With some added arm strength, Gage can absolutely play SS at a high level. Consistently striking the ball during BP and producing a 90 EV for his best, but an impressive 88.7 AVG as well. I really like the day from Mr Lintz and anticipate a big role being played for the new HC at Copper Hills this upcoming season! |

Wesley DeWitt SS / 2B / Park City, UT / 2027I love to watch the growth young ballplayers make over the course of their careers, and Wesley has taken one of the biggest jumps in my opinion over the past year. He didn’t play much as a Freshman, but absolutely exploded onto the scene this year, posting huge numbers for the Miners out of the leadoff spot. Moves very well at his size (6’2” 171lbs) and showed that during the GB portion of the day. The velocity wasn’t the separator, but the carry was. An often underappreciated component when discussing arm strength, ability to carry the ball consistently across the diamond is crucial, when evaluating SS/3B. Wesley will continue to improve the arm strength, but the feet and hands play at a high level now. Short and compact from the left side, he was hammering balls pull-side & through the middle at a high rate. A simple, short load keeps his head still and you can see the intent to do damage, hunter mentality looking to get his hands out. The athletic frame will continue to fill out, but the tools and skills are there now. |

Porter Campbell OF / LHP / Pine View, UT / 2027Don’t let the size fool you, Porter’s game plays big. A sub 7.0 in the 60, 80+ from the OF, and a 98+ EV, size isn’t a factor in this case. Pound for pound one of the stronger kids in the Class, you have to like what you see from the incoming Junior and already two-year starter in one of the strongest Regions in the State. Porter does a good job of turning behind the ball, creating leverage to produce his power. Stays tight with his hands and doesn’t cast out, strong ability to create backspin and flyballs that leave the park from time to time. Kid’s a ballplayer, produces at a high clip and shows well physically, one of the top players in the Class! |

Ryker Morton OF / SS / Mountain Ridge, UT / 2027Another Sentinel ‘27 that had a day was Ryker, overall putting together a solid workout. Ran a 7.04 at 6’1 167lbs, but posted the top 10 yd time (1.65) with the best jump of the entire day. Ryker excels at jumps from the OF, paired w/ a high IQ for the game and can play a HS CF. If the speed takes a jump over the next year or two, you could see him playing a high level CF. Stayed behind the ball well to the pull side, intent to do damage with the timing out front. Gets a bit heavy on the front foot at times, but you can see the adjustability happening in real time and not waiting for the next round, an underrated quality and Ryker finished the round strong. The athleticism showed up on the mound as well, up to 86 with easy release and mechanics. Seems to be more of a throw when needed guy right now than a consistent starter, but you can’t ignore the upside moving forward. |

Kingston Stroshine OF / RHP / Lone Peak, UT / 2029Kingston not only put himself on the map, he barged in through the front door. A physical standout amongst a strong group of talent and prospects, King had a breakout day in all phases. At 5’11” 187lbs, the athleticism jumped out starting with a 6.87 in the timed 60 yd dash, followed by an 84 from the OF, and finished with one of the loudest BP rounds of the day. Launching balls out of the yard with relative ease, and posting top EV numbers as a 2029 Grad. Kingston put himself in consideration for one of the Top Prospects in the Class on a National Level. I look forward to seeing more Baseball from this young man! |
PITCHERS

Trig Richards OF / LHP / Salem Hills, UT / 2027Trig was a top performer at the SL Summer ID this past Tuesday, leading the event in multiple categories from the mound. The best arm of the day, showcasing multiple high-level pitches that he demonstrated for strikes, consistently. The ability to locate the FB is what makes the devastating 2600+ spin rate on the CB so effective. Shows ability to create swing and miss up in the zone w/ the FB, and plays the 12-6 CB off that extremely well. Mix in a ++ CH where he kills the spin (1584 avg) and takes the bottom out late, a GB machine w/ ability to miss barrel as well. A lot to like here, and the frame projects the velocity will continue to climb and be sustainable. Repeatable mechanics and strong work ethic to improve, Trig is a top arm in the Class. |

Schafer Dixon RHP / 1B / Mountain Ridge, UT / 2027One of the “unknown” players to me prior to the event, Schafer Dixon is no longer in that category. The 6’5” incoming Junior did his thing on the mound. A quiet demeanor to start, Schafer opened up a bit and you can see the big personality come through with a little nudge. Confidence is pivotal to pitching success and I see it on the mound with this young man. Long levers and likely still growing, the life on the FB was easy and mostly due to the arm talent, rather than polished mechanics but those will clean up with time at Mtn Ridge. The CH was the more impressive second pitch, with good command and feel for release point down in the zone. Small tweaks to the CB to provide more depth and late life would serve well, but the comfort in getting out front with all his pitches is there. I like the frame and makeup of young Schafer here, keep an eye on his next 12 months, I anticipate big things! |

Dalton Fay 3B / RHP / Mountain Ridge, UT / 2027Dalton had himself a breakout day! Showcasing a top FB, as well as a top 2 EV during BP, the tools were on display for Mr Fay. A simple swing that stays flat through the zone and produces consistent backspin to both gaps. Have seen Dalton in game multiple times this Summer, and the BP reflected the success he has found since May. Still a bit raw in some areas, but the tools are quite clear and the upside is exciting! On the mound he was up to 89, getting downhill on top of the ball at his best. He needs to continue to learn how to use his body, and maximize efficiency to be able to consistently dominate the zone, but I like the pitchability and “stuff”. Projects well as a late-game closer type, and a strong hitter in the box, but needs to lock down a position because the bat needs to be in the lineup every day! High level athlete that I look forward to watching develop more. |

Colby Claassen RHP / Mountain Ridge, UT / 2026Another Mtn Ridge standout player from the event, Colby really showed well on the bump during the bullpen. A consistent strike thrower, I like the mound presence and ability to repeat mechanics and pound the zone. The CB showed late life and legit swing and miss potential, paired w/ a FB that also shows late life. The makeup and stuff are solid and should see an increased role for the Sentinels this year! |
CATCHERS

Bentley Taggart C / SS / American Fork, UT / 2027Bentley has really put in the work on his game and his body over the past year, and you saw the fruits of that labor on Tuesday. Significant jumps were made in all areas of his game, and the increased physicality combined w/ development in the top program in the State at American Fork are to thank for those jumps! All throws to 2B were sub 2.0 and as low as 1.90, clean repeatable exchanges w/ a short arm action that he extends out front through release well with. All accurate throws and looks the part of a leader behind the plate at a solid 6’0” 182 lbs. Leg kick timing move and swing that stays behind the ball, consistently finding barrel at 90.8 AVG. If Top 2026 Catcher Cache Poulson wasn’t in front of him, Bentley would be an every day starter and would play for most programs in any other case. Relentless work ethic and a great kid, the type of player you want behind the dish for your team! |

Levi Hines C / SS / Corner Canyon, UT / 2028I met Levi about a month ago for the first time at a similar event, and was very impressed then, and I am even more so now! Even as a 2028, Levi stood out as a top performer throughout the day. A true switch hitter, the swing plays from both sides & although it wasn’t his best round of BP that I’ve seen, you can see the swing is there. The intent to hit was apparent and the physicality/athleticism really stand out for the age. Being a Catcher first player, the 6.96 in the 60 was particularly impressive for the age and position. The throwdowns were consistently 1.91-1.97 with smooth exchanges and strong intent to get the ball down there, live arm up to 77 from Catcher & 83 across the diamond. I really like what I saw from Levi and would not be surprised to see true Varsity impact and production at Corner Canyon this upcoming season. Add in the fact he will play QB at National Powerhouse program CC Football, I fully expect the arm strength and IQ continue to make big jumps. |
