CBA Scout Day: Quick Hits

Taylor Berg
Utah Scouting Director

Saint George, UT – On Monday, June 23, the Prep Baseball Utah staff hosted a CBA Scout Day, featuring 28 players ranging from the 2026-2029 classes. Held at the reigning State Champion Crimson Cliffs Mustangs, the CBA exclusive event included a full pro-style workout with a laser-timed 60 yard dash using VALD Performance, defensive evaluations, and batting practice tracked by TrackMan. Pitchers were also evaluated with TrackMan, capturing all pitch data and metrics.

Below, we highlight several players who stood out to the Prep Baseball Utah staff with their performances in this edition of "Quick Hits."

*PLAYERS LISTED IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER

Harmon Skeen  INF / RHP / Desert Hills, UT / 2026

The standout performer of the day, Harmon showed elite tools both offensively and defensively. BP was consistently loud and up to 105.7, with multiple deep shots leaving the park. Imposing box presence, mixed with good rhythm and sense of timing, displayed ability for gap to gap impact. Elite arm strength (94) during the groundballs at SS and also showed he can be light on his feet and play either corner at a high level, displaying obvious physicality. Harmon impressed from the time he showed, until the handshake at the end. High caliber prospect that needs to be on Division I radar.

Ricardo Navarro SS / RHP / Bryce Valley, UT / 2026

Ricardo has been one of the most physical players in the 2026 Class for the past year, and that showed again today. He wasn’t at his best that I’ve seen, yet still stood out. Playing 1A baseball in the Fall and picking back up in Summer takes a bit of toll, but the tools and ability continue to break through each week. Loud BP has become a constant for Ricardo, as well as elite arm talent from SS matched with good feet and defensive action. The type of player that can do a bit of everything at a high level, with continued growth this Summer and more ABs versus quality competition, Ricardo’s stock should continue to rise, possessing multiple qualities you want in an elite player.

 Trent Chris  1B / LHP / Snow Canyon, UT / 2027

Trent showed legit two-way potential as one of the more impressive performers of the day. Apparent physical presence combined with a smooth stroke from the left side, and high upside on the bump. Putting up the best FB of the event at 87+, and an impressive 95 EV at the plate, Trent’s strength was on display and will continue to improve as he matures and grows into his body. Repeatable delivery with a live arm, the ceiling may be on the mound but the bat is not to be ignored right now. Will play a huge role for the Warriors next Season and continue to improve.

Mason Anderson RHP / OF / Crimson Cliffs, UT / 2026

Mason was one of the breakout performers of the day, displaying an impressive set of physical tools that project to continue to improve over the next year. Mason ran a smooth 6.97 to start the day and finished with an array of pitches that will get outs at a high clip. FB sat 82-83 but the spin rate stood out, leading the charge in a few areas and getting up to 2440 on the CB. The athleticism and easy arm action project well next year and beyond, keep an eye on Mason and his continued, assured development in the Crimson Cliffs system that sends multiple players to college annually!

PJ Hancock RHP / SS / Snow Canyon, UT / 2026

An unknown prospect prior to the event, PJ set out to change that narrative and did so with flying colors. A live arm combined with sneaky pop, PJ had himself a day putting up top 3 numbers in multiples categories (FB 85 - 3rd, INF Velo 86 - 3rd, EV 96 - 3rd, SL Spin 2500+ - 1st)). Easy actions on the bump with plus arm whip, the production will soon match the projection. At only 150 lbs, the explosive numbers will only continue to improve with added weight and strength in the offseason. I look forward to following PJ’s next 12 months and continuing to mature in the Snow Canyon program.

Jaxton Tolman RHP / 3B / Desert Hills, UT / 2027

Already a two-year starter, Jaxton didn’t have his best day but you can see the tools and ballplayer actions. On more than one occasion I’ve seen him really standout in-game. Strong flat swing through the zone from the left side, good bat to ball skills and a noticeable uptick in physicality over the past year, Jax continues to be productive at a high level. Pounding the zone with 3 pitches with an attack mindset, mixed with a high passion when he plays, you want Jax on your side in big spots. A fierce competitor, I expect a big Junior campagin from Tolman.

Kanon Virostko C / OF / Kanab, UT / 2027

Kanon stood out as one of the 4 Catchers from today, especially in the catch and throw portion of the defensive workout. Clean, smooth exchanges combined with good feet and ability to carry the ball from a short arm action will translate to consistently throwing runners out. He needs to continue to mature physically and when the arm strength catches up Kanon should turn into one of the stronger defensive catchers in the Class. The swing plays in the box and the BP was impressive, maxing out at 95+ you can see the intent to hit and do damage. Creating consistent LD backspin & showing pull-side pop, which will continue to make jumps with the aforementioned added physicality. Overall a very good day for the 2A Kanab HS product.

Isaac Swanson C / SS / Desert Hills, UT / 2027

The Thunder Catcher showed well today behind the dish and during the BP session. Easy athleticism, Isaac moves very well around the field and especially for a catcher. He started the day running a smooth Top 3 60-yard dash (7.13) and finished behind the plate catching bullpens. The setup and receiving come natural, mixed with consistent throws down to 2B ranging from 1.92-2.00. Offensively the swing shows potential with a balanced lower half, and an ability to go down and get the low pitch when needed. Rhythm and timing are apparent with a feel for the barrel through the zone. Great day overall and if we can see Isaac add 15-20 lbs of muscle this offseason, watch out for a big Junior Season!
