Today we are here to announce the Pitcher of the Year for the 2025 VA/DC High School Season. This award signifies a complete body of work of the best arms in the state for that exact high school season.

In 2024, we announced Co-Pitchers of the Year with Sean McCabe (St. John's / College of Charleston) and Jake Wise (Benedictine / Virginia Tech) taking home those honors.

Without further ado, we would like to announce the 2025 VA/DC Pitcher of the Year: Luke Smyers

In 2025 Luke dominated on the mound for one of the best teams in the state. The Future Games alum and Alabama commit threw every big game for Mills Godwin and was the biggest reason that the Eagles made yet another trip back to the Class 5 State Tournament.

When stats were submitted, Luke had thrown just over fifty innings on the mound, tallied seven wins for Godwin, allowed three earned runs, and struck out over 100 hitters on the season. From all of the stats that were submitted, Smyers had the third most strikeouts on the season, and the highest K/7 rate, striking out more than two hitters per inning. The Godwin ace carried the best ERA of any arm over thirty innings pitched, bolstering a .412 ERA at the time stats were submitted. While all of these things are very impressive, Smyers did it by getting the ball in every big game, beating multiple teams inside of the Power 25 and overall Top 50, including a win over Atlee early in the season.

Congratulations to Luke on all of his accomplishments this season and throughout his entire four year high school career at Mills Godwin.
