Uncommitted Spotlight: Brooks Porter

Western Operations

The summer is in full swing and the Prep Baseball Nevada staff has hosted several events, all featuring some very talented uncommitted prospects. The events we have wrapped up so far this summer consist of the Las Vegas Rising Stars Games/Top Prospect Games on May 28th with a ton of upcoming talent on hand, and the Reno Top Prospect Games, featuring a strong group of prospects from all classes.

Our staff has had eyes on hundreds of players this summer, including an in-depth look at those who performed at our events. As the summer continues, we will be highlighting some of the top uncommitted prospects in Nevada who made strong impressions, with our Uncommitted Spotlight Series.

We continue our Uncommitted Summer Spotlights with ‘26 OF/RHP Brooks Porter out of Robert McQueen High School. Porter had a strong all-around showing at the Reno Top Prospect Games, finishing near the top in several key metrics. At the plate, he led the event in exit velocity with a 102.0 mph max and averaged 88.6 mph, while launching baseballs up to 410 feet. In the field, he posted the second-best 60-yard dash time at 6.80 and recorded the top outfield velocity at 93 mph, a five mph increase since we last saw him in February. He also recorded a max jump height of 28.6 inches (2nd best at the event), adding another layer to his overall athletic profile. After a strong workout showing, Porter took the mound in-game and continued to impress. He sat 86 to 88 mph and topped at 89, which was the best fastball velocity at the event. He paired it with a tight slider that generated whiffs, a changeup with solid velocity separation, and a cutter that sat 82 to 85 mph and shows promise as an effective pitch in his arsenal.

After his standout performance at the Reno Top Prospect Games, it’s clear that coaches should be closely watching him this summer as a legitimate two-way follow. This article will take a closer look at Porter's metrics, videos, and notes updated from his performance at the Reno TPG's. Both his positional video, and his pitching video against live hitters is featured below.

Scouting Report

2/09/25

Mr. Porter made the trip from the state of NV to attend this event. I had never seen Porter before but the first thing I noticed was how physical he was when he walked into the ballpark. During the 60's he ran the second fastest at 6.77 with a top run speed of 20 MPH, the athleticism is definitely there. In the OF he had an event best with a top velocity of 87 MPH, showing his ability to move all around the field. Porter put on a display during BP, with a max hand speed of 23.2 MPH, 80.4 MPH max bat speed, max EV of 95.7 MPH, and a max distance of 355 FT. Transitioning to the mound, he continued to make a statement with a four-pitch mix, topping out at 88 MPH while sitting between 83.6-86.5 MPH. The SL plays a bit better than the CB, with a max spin rate on the SL of 2126 RPM. The CH will be a quality pitch in the back pocket for him to have. Intriguing ‘26 who is also a football player. I hope to see Porter again in the future because he's got a lot of untapped talent.
