Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

EMERSON, GA – The 2025 Prep Baseball Junior Future Games kicked off Thursday at LakePoint Sports, and Tennessee prospects wasted no time making their presence felt.

Team Tennessee, a talented mix of players from Tennessee went through a pro-style workout on Thursday, followed by game play Friday-Sunday.

The atmosphere at LakePoint was electric throughout the day, with coaches lining the rails from batting practice to the final pitch. Tennessee’s 2029 class, in particular, turned heads with several eye-catching performances both at the plate and on the mound.

Here’s a breakdown of the top Tennessee standouts from Thursday’s action. 👇

JFG WORKOUT WINNERS

+ Barret Gates: We got a great look at the young backstop out of Goodpasture Christian during the workout portion of Junior Future Game festivities. Gates already shows an extremely physical frame at 5 '11 and 180 pounds, he uses tremendous lower half strength to power a simple and repeatable move at the plate. Posting a 93 max exit velo and solid bat speed with 67 mph average. He moves very well behind the dish, showing a very quick transfer and 74 C velo into a 1.83 poptime.

+ Brady Sumner: Sumner is the epitome of maintaining solid contact. The Collierville 3rd baseman generated a 44% hard hit rate with a smaller lift angle. Not to mention the occasional balls that he does lift go far. Although he focuses on hard contact to the gaps, a max distance of 332 ft. shows that he can lift the ball when he wants to. He accomplishes this by maintaining his balance while coiling back his entire body before unloading on the ball. On the defensive side of the ball, he showcases developing athleticism with a cannon of an arm that tops out at 81 mph. As his defense and speed develop, his power makes up the difference with him still achieving a power/speed score of 12.3. Look out for Sumner’s tools as the JFG’s continue.

+ Reid Olivier: Olivier’s focus this year has been developing his power. After today’s showcase, it's pretty obvious that that has been a success. With a fly ball percentage of 44% and a 4.5 hard hit rate,Olivier wants to show the college world how well he can lift the ball. As he develops consistent power, he shows bright spots with balls hit at 310 ft. plus on occasion. Olivier maintains good bat control by planting the front foot early and making sure his hands are quick and stay inside. Olivier looks to provide impressive pop from the 1st base position and contribute on the mound going into Friday’s games. At first glance at Olivier there is a quick thought that pops into your head, and it's about the size and presence that he holds, all while still being 14. He brings a 6 foot 1 and 200 pound frame with already great strength throughout the build. Where he really stood out was during batting practice, punishing balls right back up the middle with low line drives. The future Siegel Star shows intent to go right back at the pitcher, but isn't afraid to let the bat head drop and pull the ball with authority. Still developing into his frame, but the motor is there, and it is a good one. Serious 2 way potential as well, where he's been up to 86 with the fastball. Olivier will look to contribute on both sides of the ball during JFG gameplay.

+ Bo Daniel: Following in the footsteps of his brother Cooper, Bo turned heads at today’s showcase. The CPA freshman ran up the power numbers with an average exit velo of 81 mph and topping out at 90 mph. Daniel maintains a wide base and a twitchy swing motion to keep a good power base and speed up the bat. He breathes excellence behind the dish and has really developed as a game manager this year. A 1.82-1.88 pop time and a 78 mph cannon is incredible for someone of his developing size. Bo will look to quickly make his way into the action for a powerhouse CPA program.

+ Mason Kelly: Possibly the big winner to come out of Team Tennessee’s JFG workout. Kelly, who will be joining the 4 time defending state champs of Farragut this coming fall looks to make an early name for himself this week at Lake Point.  The right handed hitting outfielder had the best round of BP in the group, consistently impacting the baseball to a high average exit velo and max, 95 and 84 respectively. He showed very solid bat speed for his age (69 avg. 73 max) that allows him to really get the barrel through the zone. He would knock 2 balls out of the yard in a 12 pitch round, with the furthest one going 350 feet. Exciting to watch him during the showcase play and is a must watch AB during gameplay.
