Prep Baseball Canada Player of the Year: LHP Sean Duncan

Cam Black-Araujo
Assistant Director, Canada

The Prep Baseball Canada staff is excited to announce that '26 LHP Sean Duncan (Langley Blaze) has earned our 2025 Player of the Year award! Duncan becomes the first player of British Columbia to receive the honour, as well as the first junior to do so.

The left-hander had a monster past 12 months and has watched his name fly up 2026 MLB Draft boards, now all the way up to No. 21 in Prep Baseball's National 2026 Rankings. With tons of interest from premiere programs across America, Duncan made his highly anticipated commitment in the fall, choosing the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Duncan has been facing pro hitters for several years now and really found his groove with the Junior National Team this spring where he was consistently able to eat innings and put away older, elite competition. The highlight of his spring season came on Canada's trip to the Dominican Republic in May where he 14 strikeouts to no walks over seven innings without surrendering a single run.

When facing competition is in his own age range, the Vandy commit has dominated with a 5-0 record and 0.90 ERA over 31 innings in the BCPBL. In the league play, Duncan also has 50 strikeout to 5 walks, 0.58 WHIP and opponents are batting just .126. Beyond the box score numbers, his stuff has taken another tick upwards as he's comfortably sitting in the 90-92mph range while touching 93s and 94s.

Duncan is the biggest high school names to come through the Baseball Canada pipeline since the Naylor's and is a can't miss watch every time he takes the mound. This will be an exciting follow over the next 12 months as we lead up to the MLB Draft.

Scouting Report

7/03/24

Duncan keeps doing special things on the mound and the aura/buzz that surrounds him continues to grow as he’s now two years away from his MLB Draft. Our staff got another look at Duncan on Wednesday and the 6-foot-2, 170-pound left-hander carried a perfect game through 5.2 innings against Delta. Over six complete innings, he allowed just one hit, no walks, no runs and struck out 13. The Langley Blaze product has been virtually untouchable in league play this year as he’s yet to allow an earned run, along with 92 strikeouts to just eight walks and hitters are batting just .065. As a 2026, he’s pitched against older players at all levels this year and is consistently one of the most reliable arms on Junior National Team trips against professional hitters. The sky's the limit for Duncan and we’re now less than a month away from August 1st where he’ll likely be a high-priority for several big-time programs.

5/03/24

Duncan dominated once again in his outing at the Best of the West with a complete-game shutout allowing only 1 H and 0 BB with 1 K’s. Fluidity and feel to pitch are the immediate standouts, being able to change-speed, spin, and command the zone. Moxie on the mound, doesn’t waste any time when he’s out there working with tempo and ahead in the count more often than not. Look for Duncan to field numerous calls on August 1st when the NCAA contact period begins.

3/26/24

The 2026 is one of the top arms in the country despite being one of the youngest arms on the Junior National Team. Duncan showed us why with his pitchability and knack for locating all 3 of his pitches for strikes. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound LHP has a clean, loose arm, running the fastball up to 91 mph. The curveball has two-plane break creating OZ swing & miss and locating it in the zone early in counts to get ahead. The changeup has late fading action that he pairs well with the fastball, locating it down in the zone. The swing & miss he generated from all 3 pitches against pro hitters was very impressive. The Blaze product has a bright future ahead.
