Team Select Game Two Recap

Assistant Scouting Director, Illinois & Wisconsin

After falling 10-5 in the first game, Team Select bounced back and battled a tough North Carolina squad, finishing in a 5-5 tie.

After giving up a two-spot in the first inning, Select got the scoring started with INF Bode Schenewerk (MO, Jefferson City, 2027) singling and later coming around on a passed ball to make it 2-1.

A four spot in the fourth inning would give Select a 5-4 lead. INF Rowan Walker (PA, State College Area, 2027) led the frame off with a walk, followed by a single from Schenewerk - and both would come around to score on a single from OF/1B Colton Manning (PA, Great Valley, 2027), making it 4-3 at the time in favor of North Carolina.

C/OF Luke McAtee (MO, De Smet Jesuit, 2027) would follow with a single to plate Manning and notch the game at four - followed by an RBI double from 1B Quinn Rooney (IL, Benet, 2027) to make it 5-4 at the time.

LHP Drew Dierks (MO, Francis Howell, 2027) got the start and showed off a loose, easy delivery and fastball in the low-80s, topping at 83 mph with a curveball and changeup to pair.

RHP Collin Romanczuk (PA, Malvern Prep, 2027) was next in line, showing a mid-80s fastball (T85) and feel to spin his breaking ball (2500 rpm) - also landing his changeup for strikes with killed spin. LINE: 2IP, 3H, ER, BB, K.

RHP Wade Ozment (IL, Crystal Lake Central, 2027) followed with two efficient innings, only needing four pitches to get through his first inning of work - finishing with two scoreless frames, two hits allowed and no walks. The fastball sat mostly 86-87 mph, pairing with a low-70s slider with sweep (-16” HM) from a lower ¾ slot.

The final arm for Select was LHP Michael Sinn (MO, Lafayette, 2027), who struck out two over his two innings of work. He worked the fastball in the 82-83 mph range, also showing a low-70s curveball with depth and changeup at 77 mph.
