2025 Prep Baseball Senior Future Games: Day One Standouts

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

EMERSON, GA – The 2025 Prep Baseball Senior Future Games kicked off Tuesday at LakePoint Sports, and Tennessee prospects wasted no time making their presence felt.

Team South, a talented mix of players from Tennessee and Alabama, squared off against a loaded Heartland squad in front of a deep crowd of college coaches and scouts. The day began with the pro-style workout and transitioned into live gameplay, giving recruiters a comprehensive look at some of the region’s top uncommitted talent.

The atmosphere at LakePoint was electric throughout the day, with coaches lining the rails from batting practice to the final pitch. Tennessee’s 2026 class, in particular, turned heads with several eye-catching performances both at the plate and on the mound.

Here’s a breakdown of the top Tennessee standouts from Tuesday’s action. 👇

DAY ONE STANDOUTS

SHOWCASE WINNERS:

+ Rhett Persell:  Arguably one of the overall winners from Team South’s day one at the Senior Future Games. Batting practice was a familiar sight from him, but enjoyable to watch anyways. The smooth right handed stroke put on a backspin clinic during batting practice, firing low line drives to all fields. Although he didn't reach his PR max exit velocity (105 earlier this year) he did show 5+ balls hit reading triple digits. Heading into gameplay he showed great defense both at shortstop and all across the infield, a very capable runner (6.9s) with an arm to stick on the left side. A toolsy athlete with a big motor to boot, coaches this is one to circle over the next couple days and moving forward.

+ Evan McElvain: The Nolensville High School catcher came to show off his consistent power as he had an avg. ball distance of 327 ft., with a max distance of 402 ft.. McElvain sits on the back leg to initiate his powerful drive and finishes with incredible torque in the upper half. The clear focus was to hit the ball out of the park with an avg. launch angle of 33.6 degrees, a hard hit % of 88.9, and an avg. exit velo of 95.1 mph. Being the family catcher growing up, he has developed into a great defender behind the dish, showing a 1.8 pop time at 79 mph.  He's making a case as one of the premier power options at catcher at this year’s Future Games.

+ Nash Stark: The 6-foot-7, 225-pound first baseman made a lot of noise at the plate on Day 1 of Future Games. Coming off of a state championship season where he  hit .388 with 11 long-balls, the rising senior showed why he is one of the premier talents still available in the state. He brings present power to all fields with 4 balls batted over the fence and showed off an exit velocity up to 102 mph with multiple swings with 100+. Stark sent multiple balls flying out of the park with a distance max of 371 ft and hard hit % of 83. A solid defender at first, he showcases 83 mph velo across the diamond, with flashes of above average defense for the position. Stark looks to make his name known on the national scale this week.

+ Kyson Barney: The Tennessee shortstop showed why he deserved to be at Prep Baseball Future Games this year. His power potential was on display with a max exit velocity of over 100 mph. This was no accident as he finished with a hard hit % of 64% and showed good bat control by hitting the sweet spot over 71% of the time. On the defensive side of the ball, he displays calm, premeditated, athletic actions paired with an infield velocity of 90 mph. He has present tools with imposing size, the upside is real and he will be fun to watch continue to develop.

GAMEPLAY PERFORMERS:

+ Gavin Bergeron: Following a recent transfer, newly minted Christian Academy of Knoxville who has been on a tear this summer kept it up in Day 1 of Future Games action. Since our Preseason All State this February, Bergeron has gotten better each time we've seen him. Gradually increasing his max exit velo each showing, earning a new personal best today with 98.7 mph. He earned several other PR’s on the day, with 88 INF velocity and matching his best with a 6.87 second 60 yard dash. A smooth defender in the infield, Bergeron got scoring started in the first inning with a 2 RBI double. That would be one of 3 barrels on the day, including a just missed deep fly ball to the track.  The 865 product has shown that he still has much more in the tank, and is more than up to the task of proving it.

+ Drew Hostetler: If you were to make the statement that Drew Hostetler is one of the best athletes still up for grabs in the country, it would be very difficult to dispute.  The multisport athlete had his skills on the diamond in full effect on a hot Tuesday at Lake Point.  Already known as a great defender, he made several highlight reel catches, including going all the way to the fence to bring back a 103 mph deep fly ball. A premier runner with a plus arm to boot, he ran an impressive 6.35 60 yard and is 92 mph from the outfield.  A force at the top of the lineup with a track record of raking at a high level, he should be on the short list of phone calls if he's not already.

+ Nate Powers: The 6 foot 7 right handed pitcher has seen a steady climb in his stock since the winter where he fired multiple 91-92 fastballs, while topping 93. Saw him 4 times over the spring and summer and shows the same steadily explosiveness with the frame that offers a lot of intrigue. He came in against Team Heartland and showed ability to attack hitters. Induced multiple ground balls, with some unluckiness behind him. Lived mostly in the 87-88 range with the heater, while mixing in a slider at 76-78. Slows down the arm at times to locate pitch, but shows some makings of feel for spin. The body works at 250 pounds with some athleticism down the mound. Catches himself well on the front side and the hips show the ability to turn them over. He needs to continue facing good competition as he has the aptitude to handle it. Worked quickly through his second inning of work. There is definitely more to come for Powers and shows a lot of great potential ability with the fortitude to handle multiple innings already. Should have solidified himself more division 1 opportunities after today.
