This summer, the best uncommitted Class of 2027 prospects will head to LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA for the premier Prep Baseball Report Future Games. For the first time ever, the state of California will be bringing two teams: Team NorCal and Team SoCal. For the next three weeks leading up to the event we will be previewing each player that will be putting their talents on display in front of a plethora of college coaches from across the entire country.

James Venick is a RHP from Harvard-Westlake High School. Standing 6-foot-4, Venick is one of the best rising arms in the Class of 2027.

In his arsenal, Venick has a great fastball paired with a devastating slider.

The fastball tops out at 89 MPH, with an impressive 19.7” average horizontal movement.

Venick’s slider often fools batters, with a spin rate of 2063 RPM and a wide velocity range (70-81 MPH).

One of Venick’s best outings for Harvard-Westlake came against Crespi on May 2nd. Venick went 3.1 IP, allowing one hit and fanning two batters.

Venick impressed at the Future Games Tryout in Los Angeles, coming in as the eight best overall prospect on the day.

Venick’s potential as a hurler is through the roof. With his tall frame and impressive arsenal, Venick is sure to be a pitcher to watch later this month at LakePoint for Team SoCal.

“Venick has high-ceiling starter potential with lots of movement on pitches. He has an athletic, firm frame with plently of strength to add.”- California Scouting Staff
