After announcing the 2025 Pitcher of the Year, we are going to wrap up the high school season by recognizing the 2025 VA/DC High School Player of the Year. This award embodies the player that made the biggest impact on their high school season, as well as doing it versus high level competition.

Before we unveil that award, we would like to recognize the past few Player of the Year recipients.

2024: Dalton Wentz (Amherst / Wake Forest) *Future Games alum*
2023: Bryce Eldridge (Madison / San Francisco Giants)
2022: Seth Keller (Hanover / Atlanta Braves)
2021: James Triantos (Madison / Chicago Cubs)
2019: Lyle Miller-Green (Lake Braddock)

This year the 2025 VA/DC High School Player of the Year is: Ren Devereux

Versus some of the best competition that any team in the state faced on an every day basis, the Penn State commit dominated 2025. The St. John's senior made massive contributions on both sides of the ball. While the future is on the mound, the Future Games alum hit .360 this season with nine extra base hits, nearly 40 RBI, and had more walks than strikeouts at the plate. The offensive numbers were solid, but it was pitching numbers that pushed everything over the edge for Devereux. He threw forty-two innings on the mound, was 8-0 on the season, allowed only seventeen hits, four earned runs, .67 ERA, .71 WHIP, struck out nearly seventy hitters, and held a .095 BAA over the course of the season.

There we certainly some hitters that had better offensive numbers, there were some arms that threw more innings and had some more strikeouts, but there was no player that played the competition that St. John's played and contributed on both sides in as dominant of fashion as Devereux did. Ultimately, a Player of the Year honoree should be a player that does not just contribute once every week, so his significant contributions on the mound and at the plate led him to be in this position.

Congratulations on a successful season, Ren.
