The summer is in full swing, and the Prep Baseball Hawaii staff has officially wrapped up the Hawaii State Games, which featured over 100 players from across the state. The event brought together a strong group of uncommitted talent who showed well across all areas of the game. From the workout to live gameplay, there was no shortage of standout performances, and several players made a strong impression as they head into the rest of the summer.

As we continue our coverage, we’re kicking off our Uncommitted Spotlight Series—where we’ll take a closer look at some of the top performers from the event. With updated stats, data, and video now added to player profiles, these prospects have taken another step forward in tracking their progress and getting their game out there. This series will highlight what they showed at the event and why they stood out to our staff.

We continue highlighting summer standouts with '27 Cohen Sakamoto. The RHP was a standout at the Hawaii State Games, turning in a commanding outing backed by strong TrackMan metrics. He worked with a confident tempo and showcased clean, controlled mechanics throughout. His fastball topped out at 85.8 mph, showing impressive carry with spin rates nearing 2,600 RPM and up to 20 inches of induced vertical break. He showed real confidence in the heater, consistently attacking hitters throughout his outing. As he continues to add strength, the velocity is likely to tick up, giving it the potential to become a true swing-and-miss offering. He mixed in a curveball as well, another solid offering that sat 74–75 mph with tight shape and spin rates north of 2,700 RPM.

Sakamoto has a very intriguing combination of pitch metrics and clean mechanics, and it should only be a matter of time before he makes significant jumps heading into his upperclass years.

This article will take a closer look at some of Cohen's recent metrics, scouting reports, and videos from previous events, including the Hawaii State Games.
