This summer, the best uncommitted Class of 2027 prospects will head to LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA for the premier Prep Baseball Report Future Games. For the first time ever, the state of California will be bringing two teams: Team NorCal and Team SoCal. For the next three weeks leading up to the event we will be previewing each player that will be putting their talents on display in front of a plethora of college coaches from across the entire country.
Standing 5-foot-10, Giovanni Castaing is a right-handed catcher and third baseman from Novato High. The eighth ranked catcher in all of California is also ranked as the sixty-ninth best player in the entire state, climbing the ranks after an impressive sophomore campaign for Novato.
In his sophomore season, Castaing hit to the tune of a .341 batting average and a .986 OPS. The righty also showed off his power throughout the season, tallying 13 doubles and 17 runs batted in.
The backstop also showed off some speed, swiping twelve bags on the year.
At the 2025 NorCal Procase, all of Castaing’s talents were on display. The catcher ran a 7.26 second 60-yard-dash, had a max exit velocity of 98.4 MPH off the bat, and showed off his event best pop time, registering at 1.88-2.09 seconds.
The catcher’s ability to hit for power, be a threat on the bases, and hold runners at bay with an impressive pop time behind the dish is a huge asset for Team NorCal.
“Gio didn't have to go far for this event considering it was right in his backyard at Novato High School. Castaing has been to a couple Prep Baseball events before and has surely impressed everyone on the staff. The defensive workout displayed his INF Velo at 81 MPH, showed smooth actions especially since his primary is a C. Behind the plate he was working in the 2.00-2.13 range and was up to 74 MPH. He has the ability to play multiple positions so he is very valuable. The offensive numbers took a jump with having the max EV of 97.3 MPH and an average EV of 90.0 MPH, also led the event in average bat speed of 70.9 MPH. The ball was coming off his bat hot and continued to produce line drives. Doesn't surprise me since his offensive numbers as a freshman on Varsity were as solid as they were, the kid is strong! Expect to see Gio increase his numbers in the near future.” - Hank LoForte, Associate Director NorCal
