Emerson, Ga. - Today marked the opening day of game play at the 2025 Prep Baseball Junior Future Games where rising 8th graders and 9th graders travel to Georgia to compete in a tournament style event. Prep Baseball California is fielding a squad of players from around the state to compete in the event.
Facing off with a strong offensive squad out of the state of Missouri the California team ran out '29 RHP Deegan Holquin who showed off an impressive FB up to 82 MPH while spinning a CB 62-64 MPH and Holquin was able to pick up a one K, but was touched up during his one inning of work. He was relieved by '29 RHP Gavin Carcelen who showed a strong present foundation between his 78-82 MPH FB and 66-69 MPH CB which helped to hold Missouri at bay over his two innings of work.
At the plate it was Carcelen who delivered a loud two RBI double in the first to put Team California up 4-0. Dillon Veale picked up another hit in this game when he laced a hard single to the pull side of the field and Cole Grothues continued to swing an impressive bat during both games when he delivered a line drive to single to left field to plate multiple runs that tied the game up. Isaiah McIntyre has been on a tear over the two games now standing at 4-4 on the tournament by drilling a pair of singles in his two trips to the plate today. Jonathan Gutierrez unloaded on a double to LCF while Daniel Gomez drilled a deep drive to nearly straightaway CF which nearly left the yard for a double.
Team California dropped the game and will now square off with Team Kentucky in a morning game to start off the bracket play portion of the Junior Future Games.
