Emerson, Ga. - Today marked the opening day of game play at the best uncommitted class of 2027 event with prospects competing to LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA for the Prep Baseball Future Games. With the two squads representing the state of California squaring off against the teams of Texas (South and North) and an interstate California battle.
On the final day of the 2025 Prep Baseball Future Games the two squads from the state of California (Northern and Southern) squared off in a battle between the sides. Team SoCal jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before the NorCal side made a loud response with five unanswered runs to hold a 5-2 lead heading into the final three frames of the game. Team SoCal was able to plate a trio of runs in two of the final three innings to tie the score, but neither side was able to push ahead and the game ended in a 5-5 tie.
For Team SoCal Mira Costa righthander Noah Golob took the ball to open the game and would produce a strong two innings worth of results. Over his outing Golob featured a FB in the 85-88 MPH range that showed life both up and down in the zone while mixing in a strong curveball at 76-78 MPH which when executed down had power in the shape and spin rates above 2700 RPMs. Golob also blended in a solid 79-80 MPH CHG with his three pitch mix and his control of the strike zone helped Golob to punchout three hitters with no hits allowed. Upland High School lefthander Elliot Cresap would follow Golob and went two solid frames with three total Ks using a low 80's FB that peaked at 84 MPH while spinning a low 70's SLD and mid 70's CHG. Cresap tossed all three pitches within the strike zone and allowed just one run which crossed due to an infield throwing error. Shane Wendler from Servite High School was really solid over his two innigs of work fronted by lively 85-88 MPH FB with riding life up in the zone to miss bats. Wendler mixed in a sound CB at 71-74 giving him a north/south attack approach while flashing an intriguing CHG at 78-80 MPH that faded to his arm side. Wendler collected four Ks over the two innings and demonstrated a sound starter profile with future upside as he continues to get stronger and develop overall.
Offensively, the SoCal squad would post their third straight game with 10+ hits and this time was able to plate five runs on those hits. Jake Kim of Harvard Westlake put an exclamation mark on what was a tremendous three games demonstrating his high level offensive profile by launching a deep HR in his first plate appearance, then would drive a ball just short of the wall in LCF for a deep F-8 and then finished off the trip with a rocket line drive single to LCF. Shortstop Cole Munyon of Newbury Park got in on the action with a talented group of SoCal infielders by posting a two hit day (finished 3-4 over his final two games out here). Munyon drove in three runs on the day with the first coming on hard single thru the left side of the INF and then his final at bat in Georgia resulted in him jumping on a mistake out over the plate and launching a 95+ MPH drive deep into LCF for a no-doubt two run homer. Munyon's Newbury Park teammate OF Carson Richter also posted an impressive final day in Georgia with a two hit day, first muscling a deep drive down the RF line which bounced over the fence for a ground rule double and if it had not Richter would have had an easy standup triple. His final plate appearance of the 2025 Future Games resulted in a loud line drive single to LCF (he would score on the homer from Munyon). Zion Martinez of Norco High School posted his third game with a hit out here in Georgia when he rocketed a loud double into the LCF gap and Joseph Flores Jr. also posted his third straight game with a knock. Chase Mena moved into the Team SoCal lineup for the game and the San Marino High School outfielder would collect a rocket single to RCF in his final trip to the dish.
While the overall results for Team SoCal were not glowing the collection of talent who made up this squad made strong impressions on the hundreds of college coaches in attendance. The offense posted over 30+ hits in three games, blasted two homers, 5+ doubles/triples and picked up 5+ stolen bases in the event.
