Quick Hits

Brogen Stephens, OF, 2029, Homeschool
Stephens' bat was on fire for the Georgia juniors team this week, and he showed a lot of athleticism that makes him a great player. He seemed to find green grass with every swing, and he does it with a very simple swing that stays true through the zone and has present feel for the barrel. He keeps his hands still just below the shoulder, and they don’t move until he fires them at the pitch. Doing this allows him to be prepared for the offspeed offerings that he excelled at hitting in 2K counts. Stephens showed off a true gamer mentality and will be a fun watch as he keeps developing.

Hudson Braford, C/OF, 2029, Woodstock
Bradford was a strong performer to close out the summer tournament circuit and carried that into the Junior Future Games. Put on a show during BP with loud pull side barrels. Bradford has some of the best feel for the barrel for this class and will be a freshman to keep an eye on for Woodstock in the spring. He is a savvy defender behind the dish and is versatile enough to play any OF spot. He can also hop on the mound and sit in the low 80's with real feel for spin for his age.

Rylan Long, UTL, 2029, Mt. Paran
Long has already displayed some of the top tools in the class and the 2025 Junior Future games was no different. Showed off the pull side power with a double to left and then goes backside for a triple as well. There are athletic actions throughout and plays as a primary catcher right now, but has the ability to stick anywhere on the field. Long is going to be a name to know in this class with more on the way.

RJ Westbrook, LHP, 2029, Mount Paran
Westbrook is an exciting arm to watch throw for this class, with a dominant two pitch mix that he is able to tunnel well. The fastball sits at 80-82 with heavy arm side run that bores into LHH and makes it a very uncomfortable AB. Off of the fastball Westbrook uses a changeup that sits 75-76 and has solid arm side fade, and he kills spin well on it. It is a very loose arm action that comes from a ¾ slot and moves easy down the mound. The ability to pound the zone for Westbrook will be something that will continue to turn heads, with a very projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 165-pounds he will continue to grow into a very good arm.

Gavin Poteet, LHP, 2029, Cherokee Bluff
Poteet showed off a ton of upside at the junior future games for team Georgia, standing at a projectable frame of 6-foot-2, 167-pounds. The tall, wiry frame combined with the velocity topping out at 87 makes Poteet a very fun player to watch as he begins his high school career. Poteet is very mechanically sound on the mound, uses the upper and lower halves well together to create velocity and generate force down the mound. He throws from an over the top slot and spins the fastball well creating a lot of carry up in the zone. He couples it with a breaking ball that sits in the low 70s, and has a lot of potential to be a good pitch. Poteet is going to be one of the top arms for this class in the state as he keeps developing.

Carson Florence, 2B/RHP, 2029, Blessed Trinity HS
Put together a strong first day of pool play to kick off Junior Future Games. In game one, Florence would go 1-1 with a walk and two runs scored. In his one hit on the day he would ambush the first pitch he saw and lines it down the right field line for a stand up triple and would later come on to score the first run of the game. Does a good job of creating separation in his load to be able to drive his hands through the zone and does a good job of keeping a level barrel through the zone and stays balanced throughout. Showed off good speed on the base paths as well.

Liam Search, SS/RHP, 2029, Roswell HS
The switch hitter had a strong showing at the plate during the Junior Future Games as he went 4-6 with 2 RBI’s. In game one he would go 2-2 with 2 RBI’s that included a single into RCF. In game he would go 1-2 and in bracket play later that night he would go 1-1 with a walk. Does a good job on matching plane and manipulating his barrel in the zone, also stays short and direct to the ball with the ability to hit from both sides of the plate with good barrel skills and bat to ball skills to match. Would also get the start in bracket play and did a good job of keeping his team in the game as he only allowed two runs on five hits and struck out four across three innings of work. Kept his fastball in the upper 70s and topped out at 80 and pair it with a breaking ball that lived in the 68-71 range.

Paxton Jennings, SS/RHP, 2029, Harlem HS
Swung a hot bat on both days of the Junior Future Games going 3-5. In pool play game number one he was all over the barrel as he went 2-2 with a single into LF in his first AB and an RBI triple to the RCF gap and would also pick up another hit as he would line the pitch into LF for a single. Does a good job of keeping a level barrel through the zone and matching plane and a good leveraged swing with good barrel control and good bat to ball skills to match.

Ashton Brown, OF/2B, 2029, Sprayberry HS
Brown was one of the hottest hitters all week at Junior Future Games. On the week in total he went 5-5 with an RBI. In the first pool play game he would go 2-2 with two doubles, in the second pool play game he would again go 2-2 with a single and an RBI triple, and in bracket play he would go 1-1 with a single in his lone AB of the game. He does a good job of keeping his hands inside the baseball and staying short and compact with good bat speed through the zone. Also showed off good barrel control and bat to ball skills all weekend as he collected a hit in all 5 ABs he had. Also showed really good speed on base paths as he also ran a 6.57 60 on the workout day.

Easton Chen, C/OF, 2029, Walton HS
Put together a strong showing pool play at the Junior Future Games. During pool play he would 2-4 with 2 RBI’s. In game one he would add one hit going 1-2 and two RBI’s and in his one hit on the day he would smoke the ball to the CF wall for an RBI triple and in game two of pool play the next day he would add another hit to his name. He gets good separation during his load that then allows him to be able to drive his hands through the zone and stays balanced and connected throughout. Also did a good job catching throughout the weekend as well showing good actions behind the plate. Good projectable frame at 5’10 172 pounds with plenty of room to add strength and size as he grows and develops.

Hudson Pursell, RHP/OF, 2029, Wesleyan HS
Had a strong two days both at the plate and on the mound at the Junior Future Games. In total at the plate over the two days he would go 3-4 with 4 RBI’s and 2 walks. In game one he would go 1-2 with an RBI, in game two the next day he would go 2-2 with another RBI and in the bracket play later that night he would drive in the only two runs of the game on a single that was 100 mph off the bat. Does a good job of starting with his hands already back so he can stay short and direct to the ball with good bat speed through the zone. In game one on the mound he would get the start and turn in a good start as he went 2 innings, allowing no run and striking out two batters. He showcased a three pitch mix that included a fastball that lived in the 81-84 range and two off speed pitches that included a changeup at 73-79 and a slider that lived in the 69-74 range.

Carson Clark, 3B/C, 2029, Cambridge HS
Put together a strong weekend at the plate as he went 2-5 and 2 RBI’s. In pool play game number one he would go 1-2 with an RBI single and in pool play game number two he would come up big for his team as he would deliver an RBI triple to the RF wall to tie the game up at 7-7 and would score on the very next pitch to help give his team the win. Does a good job of keeping his hands inside the baseball and matching plane on pitches and stays short with a simple and short swing. Would also come out and close out a dominant win for his team as ran his fastball up into the low 80s and topped out at 82 and paired it with a sharp curveball. Had a quick and efficient two innings of work as he only gave up one hit and struck out one batter.

John Brady (JB) Nichols, 3B/RHP, 2029, Cartersville HS
Came up big in game 2 of pool play. Down the final out in a tie game Nichols would deliver the walk off hit his team needed as he would line it into RF for an RBI single to give his team the win in a final score of 8-7 and send them on to bracket play. Does a good job of staying direct to the ball with quick hands and quick bat speed through the zone. Would also come out and close in a dominant 10-1 game as he ran his fastball up to 80 and would also mix in a changeup and a curveball as well. Worked a solid 2 innings giving up only one run on 4 hits and struck out two batters. Already has a big and physical frame at 6’2 196 pounds with room to add as he continues to grow and develop.

Holden Borland, RHP/OF, 2029, South Forsyth HS
Had a good start to kick off day two of Junior Future Games. Showed off a solid two pitch mix that included a fastball and a curveball, his fastball lived in the 81-84 range and a curveball that was 12/6 with depth and lived in the 69-70 range. Did a good job of spotting his pitches all around the zone and was to generate weak contact throughout his start and was able to get swing and miss on his curveball. Would go on to pitch two innings and only gave up two runs on three hits. The day before he would also add a hit to his name as he would crush a ball over the centerfielder’s head for an RBI triple. Did a good job of keeping his hands back and staying direct to the ball with good bat speed through the zone.

Manny Munoz, RHP/3b, 2029, Alpharetta HS
Put together a strong showing during pool play game number two during the Junior Future Games. At the plate he would go a perfect 2-2 with an RBI. His biggest hit out of the two came when he crushed a ball over the centerfielder's head that led to an RBI double. Would also add an RBI hit the day before where he went 1-2 with an RBI. Does a good job of staying short and compact with his swing through the zone and uses a small toe tap to stay synced up with good bat speed through the zone. Would also hop on the mound later in the game and showcased a two pitch mix that included a fastball that got up to 80 mph that had life at the top of the zone and paired it with a big 12/6 curveball and was able to land this pitch for a strike.

Eli Rice, SS/OF, 2029, North Oconee
Rice had a good week playing for the Southeast Junior Future Games team, showing off a lot of projectability and tools. The bat is already showing signs of being a great asset for him, the bat to ball ability was one of the best on the Southeast team and he was rarely fooled. He stayed true to a fastball approach, but had the ability to adjust his hands and the barrel to be able to get the offspeed stuff and find some base hits. The swing path creates a lot of elevation and he finds the barrel well, which provides for a lot of XBH potential. Rice is someone that will continue developing into a good ballplayer.
